    Hospitalization Experiences among School Age Children. Hospitalization can be a traumatic and stressful experience for children and also the parents. Unfamiliar environment and health personnel, diagnostic procedures and treatments have been identified as the stressor. The traumatic experiences following hospitalization might influence the children\u27s well being until years after the hospitalization. This qualitative research aimed to explore children\u27s experiences during hospitalization. Data were collected using purposive sampling technique from 10 hospitalized school-aged children in pediatric medical ward. Themes from qualitative analysis included: separation from family and peer, unfamiliar environment, loss of self determination, experience of pain, and health awareness. These research recomendates strategies to prevent negative effect of hospitalization

    Increasing the Ability of Children with Autism in Performing Oral Hygiene Through Photographs: a Single Subject Study in Indonesia

    Autism is a developmental disorder in children that now affects 1 : 88 children in the world. As many as 50% of school-age children with autism face difficulty in independently performing oral hygiene. This research seeks to increase the ability of children with autism in performing oral hygiene through the use of photographs. The methodology of the research is quantitative quasi-experimental through the single subject design. The three research subjects are school-age children with autism, and their parents also participated in this research. Intervention is conducted through a series of photographs on the steps in performing oral hygiene after the ability trend in the baseline phase is observed. Assessment in the ability of performing oral hygiene is done in the baseline, intervention, maintenance, and generalization phases. The result is that the ability to perform oral hygiene for Children A, B, and C increases from 14, 21, and 22 to 30, 31, and 30. The ability to perform oral hygiene for the three children increases after intervention and settles in the generalization phase

    Mothers' self efficacy in preventing diarrhea among an under under-5-year-old child. Diarrhea is a global health problem among an under-5-year-old child. It causes the death for almost 1.9 millions every year. Diarrhea prevention is a key factor in reducing mortality caused by diarrhea. This study aimed to describe maternal self-efficacy for preventing childhood diarrhea in Rowokele, Kebumen. This was a simple descriptive approach study, applied a cross sectional method, and involved 162 partisipants of mother who were gathered using a simple random sampling. A maternal self-efficacy instrument which reliability was 0,959 for preventing childhood diarrhea used in this study. The result shows that mothers have had low self-efficacy (63,6%), middle self-efficacy (12.3%), and high self-efficacy (24,1%). It is recommended that mother's knowledge of diarrhea should be improved by public health service

    Acceleration of Gastric Tube Usage through Non Nutritive Sucking Simulation for Premature Infant Feeding. An adequate sucking can be improved a premature infant\u27s sucking reflex with non nutritive sucking stimulation (NNS) with pacifier. The purpose of this research was to identify the influence of NNS stimulation with pacifier towards the duration of gastric tube USAge during premature infant feeding. The design of this research was quasi experimental with post test only control group design with 20 respondents for two groups, then were chosen by purposive sampling in one of Tangerang District Hospital. The data were collected using a questionnaire and an observation form. Data were analized using independent t test. The result of this research showed that there was no influence of NNS with pacifier towards the duration of gastric tube USAge (p=0,379), however the duration of gastric tube USAge was shortened. This research recommends that non nutritive sucking stimulation with pacifier is an alternative procedures to improve a premature infant\u27s sucking reflex

    Gambaran Pelaksanaan Sistem Komunikasi RS-Puskesmas-Keluarga Pada Bayi Resiko Tinggi

    Sistem komunikasi merupakn suatu sistem sarana yang menunjang kesinambungan asuhan keperawatan bayi risiko tinggi di komunitas setelah bayi pulang dari rumah sakit. Perawatan di rumah merupakan tanggung jawa keluarga dan dipantau oleh perawat puskesmas melalui kunjungan rumah. Perawatan lanjutan dapat dilaksanakan secara optimal apabila terjalin komunikasi yang baik antara RS-Puskesmas-Keluarga. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif yang bermaksud untuk mengevaluasi sistem komunikasi RS-Puskesmas-Keluarga dan keluarga yang ada saat ini dan faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhinya. Sampel terdiri dari 3 kelompok yaitu ibu-ibu dengan bayi risiko tinggi berjumlah 61 orang, perawat RS dan perawat Puskesmas yang merawat bayi risiko tinggi masing-masing berjumlah 66 orang dan 15 orang. Lokasi penelitian dilakukan di RSUPN Ciptomangunkusumo, RS Persahabatan, dan 6 puskesmas kecamatan di wilayah Jakarta Timur (Duren Sawit, Kramat Jati, makasar, Pasar Rebo, Cipayung, Cakung).Hasil yang diperoleh menunjukkan bahwa sistem komunikasi RS-Puskesmas-Keluarga yang ada saat ini kurang begitu baik. Hal ini digambarkan oleh rendahnya kunjungan rumah perawat Puskesmas (6,56%), sementara itu ibu-ibu bayi risiko tinggi (83,61%) menyatakan perlunya kunjungan rumah perawat Puskesmas. Kurangnya kesadaran ibu-ibu bayi risiko tinggi akan pentingnya surat rujukan terlihat melalui survey ini, karena hanya 26,67% perawat Puskesmas yang menerima surat rujukan. Materi penyuluhan yang didapat ibu-ibu bayi risiko tinggi dari perawat (RS dan Puskesmas) kurang memenuhi kebutuhan karena hanya mencakup perawatan umumdan pencegahan penyakit, serta sistem rujukan, tidak mencakup pertumbuhan dan perkembangan anak. One of the important facilities in the community health care services for the high risk babies is improvement of the communication system. Home visit and care have to be done and it\u27s the responsibility of the Community Health Nurses and families. Home care It can be effective if there is a good communication system between Hospital, Community Health Centre and the families. This study is a descriptive research design which has a purpose to evaluate the communication system in Indonesian\u27s Health care institution and the families.The sample consist of three group, namely mothers with high risk babies, nurses in the hospital and community health service in East Jakarta.The result shown in this study is that most of the mother\u27s of high risk perceived that there is lack home careservice and they received lack of information (health education materials)

    Improving Oxygen Saturation, Heart Rate, and Respiratory Rate of Neonates Using Mechanical Ventilation with Music Therapy. Neonates using mechanical ventilation cause of respiratory disorder experience oxygenation and heart rate problems. Interventions should be made in order to calm neonates so that the need of oxygen can be minimized, one of these interventions is music therapy. This study aimed to identify the effect of music therapy on oxygen saturation, heart rate and respiratory rate of neonates using mechanical ventilation. This quasi experiment study with a pretest-posttest design without control involved 13 neonates selected by consecutive sampling. Data collected through observation and analyzed by paired t test. There was a significant difference on the average of oxygen saturation, heart rate and respiratory rate of infants using mechanical ventilation before and after music therapy (p value <0,05). Music therapy can be used as a complementary medical therapies to improve oxygenation in neonates using mechanical ventilation

    The Influence of Family Empowerment on the Health Status of Low Birth Weight Infant in Jakarta

    Low birth weight (LBW) infant is susceptible to health problems since the infant born, during in the hospital and continue after discharge. The purpose of this study was to identify the influence of family empowerment on the health status of LBW infant. Action research using qualitative and quantitative method was used in this study. Qualitative approach was used to identify the experience of mothers of LBW infants as a data based for intervention development, and quantitative approach was used to evaluate the influence of family empowerment program on the health status of LBW infants. There were 7 participants, 20 mothers and their infants in the intervention group and 27 in the control group involved in this study. The study showed that family empowerment was effective in improving the immunization status and follow- up care attendance, reducing the frequency of acute care visits, increasing mothers\u27 knowledge and skill in providing care. In conclusion, mothers need information on providing a proper care for LBW, and family empowerment can significantly improve maternal knowledge and health status of LBW infants
