The coast of the Cap Vert peninsula, which is the most typical, is made up of a succession of rocky capes and small beaches at the bottom of very small coves. The bay of Bel-Air integrates the sedimentary functioning of the Cape Verde peninsula. The sandy beaches south of Dakar are characterized by short foreshores, a very limited sandy reserve (coastal rim) and low sediment transits, in particular in the bay-like sectors. The Bay of Bel Air is occupied by very busy beaches such as Voile d'Or and Monaco Plage which are interspersed between the Autonomous Port of Dakar and the Bay of Hann, separated by the Pointe de Bel Air. The objective of this present contribution is to study the morphological evolution of the Bay of Bel Air between August 2018 and March 2021. The methodological approach is based on regular topographic monitoring of 11 beach profiles distributed in 03 sectors, out of 08 campaigns. The results show a generally stable trend in the bay with a sector where low but constant erosion is observed (sector 3). It can be seen that these beaches alternate morphological variations, legacies of fattening and slimming processes, which maintain their natural resilience. Sector 1 and 2, between Amerger Casamance and Monaco Plage (P1 to P7) generally suffered accretion with little erosion during the monitoring period, while sector 3, at the end of the bay, is in a state of weak but constant erosion. The sedimentary stability of the Bay of Bel Air, like the other bays of the Cape Verde peninsula, is explained by the presence of points which serve as natural protective groynes. Thus, they resist erosion which is very active in other sectors (Rufisque, Bargny) despite the low sediment transit which characterizes the southern coast of Dakar. However, the bays of Dakar remain vulnerable because the cliffs and points that protect them are currently undergoing phenomena of landslides, cracks, landslides that risk breaking this stability observed for several year
The Cap Vert peninsula is made up of a succession of rocky capes and small beaches with short foreshores. This part of the Senegalese coast is characterized by a sediment deficit due to its morphology and the role of the Cayon de Cayar as a trap. The bay of Bel Air, located in the south of the peninsula, is protected by rocky points. The beaches there (Monaco-plage ; voile d'or) are characterized by a rather stable dynamic. The objective of this present contribution is to study the morphological evolution of the Bay of Bel Air between November 2019 and March 2021. The methodological approach is based on regular topographic monitoring of 11 beach profiles distributed in 03 sectors, out of 08 campaigns. The profiles are made using a Leica brand differential GPS. The follow-up was carried out on the same profiles according to the seasons. The results show a generally stable trend in the bay with a sector where low but constant erosion is observed (sector 3). It can be seen that these beaches alternate morphological variations, legacies of fattening and slimming processes, which maintain their natural resilience. Sector 1 and 2, between Amerger Casamance and Monaco Plage (P1 to P7) generally undergoes accretion with low erosion during the monitoring period, while sector 3, at the end of the bay, is in a state of low erosion. but steady.
The interest of this sedimentary characterization by granulometry, is try to do a paleo-environmental reconstitution of the sediments of the watershed of Ourossogui. For this reason, the methodology is based on granulometric analyzes in the laboratory. Data processing was done using grain size indices and Friedman K-Sk and Moiola and Weiser Md-Sk diagrams. The results show that the superficial lithological facies observed in the Ourossogui watershed are mostly composed of sandy particles. As for the Friedman K-Sk diagram, it indicates that the sediments are brought by running waters, while that of Mz-Sk of Moiola and Weiser showed that the sediments are entirely of continental origin, with however a slight presence sediments of marine origin. They correspond to occurrences of phosphated limestone facies in the scree on the beds of the watershed ravines. This paleo-environmental context of the watershed is at the origin of its strong structural dynamics, marked by a reactivation of the water morphodynamics
Analyse Par Approche Hydrogeochimique De La Distribution Spatiale De La Salinite Des Eaux De La Nappe Et Des Sables Quaternaires Du Secteur Des Niayes Du Gandiolais (Littoral Nord Senegalais)
In the Gandiolais, the groundwater of the quaternary sands, heavily salted over most of the area, is used to irrigate crops and poses real difficulties for the sustainability of the market gardening system. Secondary salinization of the irrigated soil and the reaction of the absorbing complex depend mainly on the intrinsic parameters, particularly the texture of the soil. The purpose of this article is to analyze the spatial distribution of salinity taking into account the particle size characteristics of the absorbent complex. The hydrogeochemical approach based on the relations of concentration makes it possible to appreciate the process of conservation in situ between the irrigation water and the exploited soil. The results obtained confirmed that the coarse texture of medium-to-fine sand type allows rapid leaching of soluble salts over the entire profile. Soils remain globally calcimagnesian although the irrigation water is globally sodium chloride and potassium or sodium sulphated. However, this high permeability of the complex constitutes a risk of ionic overconcentration in the aquifer. Irrigation returns associated with fertilizers accentuate the mineralization of the groundwater of the quaternary sands
The coastline of Casamance, in the south of Senegal, is marked by a generalized retreat of the coastline, except for some prograding areas in its northern part. The islands of Karabane, Diogué and the Gnikine point are very vulnerable (low topography of about 2 m and sandy beach) and are part of this regressive dynamic. This contribution uses a cartographic and statistical approach to study the morphosedimentary dynamics and hydrodynamic factors around the Casamance River estuary. The results show that the sites studied have undergone phases of erosion and accretion. Despite the accretion rates observed in some segments, the recession remains globalized in the whole measured area. On the island of Karabane, the balance remains globally negative with a recession of 0.60 m/year on average, while on the shores of the island of Diogué and at the tip of Gnikine, the recession is respectively 5.85 m/year and 3.30 m/year due to increased exposure to the dynamics of the mouth where the hydrodynamics is more intense
The results of ESEDSEN (Étude sédimentaire du Sénégal – Sedimentary Study of Senegal) project are a contribution to the knowledge of the recent space-temporal evolution of the breach artificially opened in 2003 on the Langue de Barbarie and its consequences. Topographic profiles carried out between October 2010 and December 2011 indicate that the north bank rose 550 m to the south between March and December 2011. Meanwhile, the same bank has expanded nearly 100 m. The northern shore functions as a storage and/or redistribution center of sediment discharge fueling the formation of sandbars in and/or near the mouth of the Senegal River. During the same period, the south bank fell by 830 m. The width of the gap fluctuates because of the seasons and hydrodynamic factors, but in a general expansion dynamics (28 m/month on average over the period of observation.) In October 2012, the Langue de Barbarie went through a major natural break a little further in the South. This dynamics of the breach exposes the left bank of the lagoon of Mboumbaye (Gandiolais cliff) to rapid erosion, shoreline retreat being greater than 15 m/year in the most affected sectors. The economic and environmental potential of the Gandiolais coastline are then threatened by the southern migration of the mouth of the Senegal River
