Commentary on the Portfolio of Compositions submitted for the degree of PhD in Composition: Heart of Light, Light of Heart, Spanish Ladies, Down Among the Dead Men, Pavanne, Christ ist Erstanden, Rezoplucker, Cliqbuz, Circle Theory.

The portfolio contains various works which explore the interplay between live performance of electroacoustic music and performance of pre-written work. Control of real-time parameters in computer generated music is now so prevalent that it can be used in the compositional process. This shift in possibilities is the focus of this commentary. It is not the intention of this commentary to either tell the reader how to interpret the music or to discuss aesthetic issues. This commentary should be used more like a construction manual to aid the listener where they might not be familiar with the concepts and techniques employed in the music. The introduction sets out the music aims, the conclusion explains how these aims are achieved in various ways and each chapter in between focuses on a different piece in the portfolio

Title from PDF of title page (University of Missouri--Columbia, viewed on June 21, 2010).The entire thesis text is included in the research.pdf file; the official abstract appears in the short.pdf file; a non-technical public abstract appears in the public.pdf file.Thesis advisor: Dr. Mark Morgan.M.S. University of Missouri--Columbia 2010.This study examined barriers and constraints facing mid-Missouri school teachers involving field trips, such as the need for environmental education (EE) services and training opportunities. The primary objective was to focus on rural school teachers who live near Prairie Fork Conservation Area (PFCA), an underutilized educational resource near Williamsburg, Missouri. A questionnaire was distributed to 401 public school teachers in seven counties of Mid-Missouri, yielding a response rate of 64%. The majority of respondents were well-educated females that taught kindergarten through second grade. Their overall attitude regarding field trips was positive. Teachers participated in about 1.5 field trips per year, but only 5.7% of respondents had used PFCA as a field trip destination. Structural constraints were found to be important and might limit field trip participation at PFCA. However, some of the constraints facing teachers could be negotiated with the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC). Some management implications are discussed.Includes bibliographical references

    Get PDF
In 1914, American Vincentians from the Eastern Province began serving in Panama. They helped develop the Panamanian church under the four foreign bishops who headed it from 1903 to 1963. The Americans ministered primarily in the Canal Zone, especially Balboa, but also in Colόn, Bocas del Toro, a West Indian parish of thousands in Panama City, Cristobal, and Chiriquí, among other places. They had four houses, churches, chapels, and schools, including the Colegio San Vicente de Paúl in David. As the Panamanians’ direction of their church mirrored their increasing control over their country, large portions of the article are dedicated to Panama’s political and economic history
