Electromagnetic Form Factors of Nucleons with QCD Constraints Sytematic Study of the Space and Time-like Regions

Elastic electromagnetic form factors of nucleons are investigated both for the time-like and the space-like momentums under the condition that the QCD constraints are satisfied asymptotically. The unsubtracted dispersion relation with the superconvergence conditions are used as a realization of the QCD conditions. The experimental data are analyzed by using the dispersion formula and it is shown that the calculated form factors reproduce the experimental data reasonably well.Comment: 14 page

Numerical Study on the Ultimate Deformation of RC Structural Walls with Confined Boundary Regions

For accurate assessment of performance levels in reinforced concrete (RC) members, it is important to well define deformation limits at particular damage states. For RC walled building, investigation of the deformation limits of RC structural walls is required to define limit states and corresponding limiting values. Numerical investigations were carried out on barbell shape and rectangular RC walls with confined boundaries to evaluate response curves and ultimate deformations. A nonlinear 2D and 3D finite elements (FE) models were built in order to simulate the load-deformation relations under monotonic loading as well as cracking and damage patterns of previously tested walls. The FE models were able to simulate the backbone curves with good accuracy as well as the ability of boundary columns in reducing damage level. The 3D FE model simulated very well the ultimate deformation compared to 2D models. A sectional fibre model combined with plastic hinge length and shear deformation component is proposed in order to simulate the backbone curves and the ultimate deformation with less computational cost compared to 3D FE analysis. The model was able to provide relatively accurate backbone curves with very good estimation of ultimate drift

A Study of Three-Roll Bending Process and Its Control

    Get PDF
A three-roll bending process for a workpiece with a U-shaped cross section is studied. The relationship between the position of the rolls and the curvature of the workpiece is approximately obtained by several methods. An automatic control system based on the relation is then applied to the process. A learning control is also employed to the control system to treat the errors occurring in the process. The experimental results show that the control system is very effective

PURPOSE: For some people with leg disorders, the alternative to becoming bedridden is sitting in a wheelchair for long periods of time. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relation between the backrest of a chair and the position of the pelvis on the maximum pressure at the ischium and the estimated shear force encountered while sitting in a chair.METHODS: Ten healthy males aged 22.4 +/- 2.3 years without pathologies in the leg and/or trunk participated in this study. The subjects were instructed to sit in a chair and the pressure and shear forces were measured under three sitting conditions: In the standard position, a 5 cm forward position and a 10 cm forward position. The effects of the positions of the pelvis on the maximum pressure at the ischium were measured by an instrument for measuring pressure distribution and the shear forces were estimated using an experimental model proposed by us.RESULTS: Comparisons were made among the three sitting positions; the range of displacement of the maximum pressure point was not significant. The estimated shear force on the seat was 15.5 +/- 12.4 N in the standard position, 34.4 +/- 8.5 N in the 5-cm forward position, and 53.2 +/- 16.7 N in the 10 cm forward position. There were significant differences among the three values (p < 0.01).CONCLUSIONS: Displacing the pelvis forward and leaning against the backrest tends to increase the shear force and raise the risk of decubitus ulcers

    Molecular analysis for bacterial contamination

Bacterial contamination in dental unit waterlines (DUWLs) was evaluated by molecular techniques in addition to the conventional culture method. Water samples (n=8) from DUWLs were investigated for heterotrophic bacteria by culture method using R2A agar. The selected bacterial antibiotic-resistance genes and Legionella species-specific 16SrDNA were identified by PCR. The profiles of bacterial contamination in DUWLs were further identified by PCR-DGGE. In this study, no antibiotic-resistant or Legionella genes were detected. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon-degrading bacterium, Novosphingobium sp. was the most prevalent in DUWLs. Conventional PCR and PCR-DGGE were shown to be potentially useful for monitoring of bacterial contamination in DUWLs
