Mergers and Acquisitions: A pre-post analysis for the Indian financial services sector
This paper examines the Mergers & Acquisitions scenario of the Indian Financial Services Sector. The data for eighty cases of M&A in the period from March 1993- Feb 2010 is collected for a set of ten financial parameters representing the various characteristics of a firm. All the cases have been analyzed individually and collectively to determine the overall effects of M&A in the industry. The results of the study indicate that PAT and PBDITA have been positively affected after the merger but the liquidity condition represented by Current Ratio has deteriorated. Also Cost Efficiency and Interest Coverage have improved and deteriorated in equal number of cases. Interest Coverage remains an important factor in determining the return on shareholders’ funds both before and after the merger but Profit Margin also becomes important after the merger. And looking at the diversification effects of merger, in two out of the three cases there has been a reduction in total and systematic risk.Mergers & Acquisitions,Financial Services Sector, liquidity
MODELING & FORECASTING OF MACRO-ECONOMIC VARIABLES OF INDIA: BEFORE, DURING & AFTER RECESSION
This paper examines the state of the Indian economy pre, during and post-recession by analysing various macro-economic factors such as GDP, exchange rate, inflation, capital markets and fiscal deficit. We forecast some of the major economic variables using ARIMA modelling and present a picture of the Indian economy in the coming years. The findings indicate that Indian economy is reviving after a slowdown during the period of global recession. It is forecasted that GDP, foreign investments, fiscal deficit and capital markets will rise in 2010-11. Furthermore, the rupee-dollar exchange rates will not change much during the same period.ARIMA, Box-Jenkins, Indian economy, forecasting
Texture zeros of low-energy Majorana neutrino mass matrix in 3+1 scheme
In this work we revisit the zero textures in low energy Majorana neutrino
mass matrix when the active neutrino sector is extended by a light sterile
neutrino in the eV scale i.e., the 3+1 scheme. In 3+1 scenario, the low energy
neutrino mass matrix () has ten independent elements. Thus in principle
one can have minimum one-zero texture to maximum ten-zero texture. We summarize
the previous results of one, two, three and four-zero textures which already
exist in the literature and present our new results on five-zero textures. In
our analysis we find that among six possible five-zero textures, only one is
allowed by the present data. We discuss possible theoretical model which can
explain the origin of the allowed five-zero texture and discuss other possible
implications of such a scenario. Our results also concludes that in 3+1 scheme,
one can not have more than five-zeros in .Comment: 12 pages, 3 figures. Version published in PR
Analysis of Orthotropic RC Rectangular Slabs Supported on Two Adjacent Edges - A Simplistic Approach
The design of reinforced concrete slabs supported on two adjacent edges involves complex formulations. In this paper, a simplistic approach is presented for designing orthotropic slabs supported on two adjacent edges. Slab supported on two adjacent edges (existing slab) is transformed into a slab supported on three edges (equivalent slab) by taking a mirror image of the yield line pattern of two adjacent edges supported RC slabs about its unsupported edges to get the exact collapse mechanism for the slabs supported on three edges. The equivalent aspect ratio can be used in the equations already developed for the slabs supported on three sides. Ultimate moment carrying capacity of the slab carrying uniform load can be evaluated by using the available analytical formulations of the slab supported on three edges. So, the present approach gives a simplified method to analyse and design the orthotropic RC rectangular slab supported on two adjacent edges using the equations available for slab supported on three adjacent edges. Hence, the simplistic approach will be very helpful for structural designers dealing with analysis and design of slabs supported on two adjacent edges. Doi: 10.28991/cej-2020-03091598 Full Text: PD
