    Land management in agroforestry systems requires species selection and proper silviculture. Selection of species and silvicultural treatments aimed at maintaining competition in obtaining a light, water and nutrients. Farmers choose the species based on the economical factor. This study aims to determine the composition of plant species in dry land agroforestry in Menoreh Hill, Kulon Progo District. Research done by survey method. Plot observation was divided into three level of light intensity: : a) early agroforestry (light intensity >50%), b) middle agroforestry, (light intensity 30-50%), c) further agroforestry (light intensity <30%). Four planting plots were made as repetition, so that there were 12 plots observation. Observations and measurements of vegetation are done with census (100%). The Result show five important value index in early Agroforestry,: sengon (77.84), coconut (50.04), and cacao (25.47), tree density was 482 trees/hectare and basal area 5.48 m2/ha, in middle agroforestry were: sengon (88.15), mahogany (49.51), and clove (45.03), with tree density was 595 trees/ha, and basal area was 6.70 m2/ha, further agroforestry were: clove (72.37%), sengon (50.61), and coconut (37.02), tree density was 650 trees/ha, basal area was 6.78 m2/ha

    Private forest in Java Island is mainly managed by Agroforestry (AF) system. There are three levels in AF systems: early AF, middle AF, and advance AF. The land productivity in AF system by villagers is mostly low because of inappropriate AF practice. The objective of this research is to analyze the land management practice in Menoreh hills, Kulon Progo, Yogyakarta. The study was conducted in Giripurwo Village, Kulon Progo. Stratifed sampling with purposive sampling was used in this study. Total of twelve plots were determined in every AF levels. Studies conducted in every plot includes the species composition and soil fertillity. The results showed that: (1) Tree composition in early and middle AF is dominated by woody tree (Sengon), while in advance AF is dominated by non-timber forest product (clove), (2) Low soil fertility in the study area is caused by high intensity of biomass harvesting and low fertilization dosage applied, (3) The increment of land productivity could be achieved by increasing the biomass input to the soil from organic fertilizer and crop waste

    Morpho-Physiological Characters and Soybean Productivity on Alfisol and Vertisol Under Intercropping with Kayu Putih (Melaleuca Cajuputi)

    Intercropping kayu putih (Melaleuca cajuputi) has more advantage than other tree crops, such as teak, pine or acacia due to the beneficial intercropping season length. Soybean was intercropped with kayu putih because soybean has higher commercial value than other field crops. The survey-based research was conducted during March until May, 2014 in Menggoran Forest Resort, Playen Forest Section, Yogyakarta Forest Management District. Stratified random sampling method was used during the research by stratifying the types of soil stratification (alfisol and vertisol), rainfall and declivity then was made into 7 land mapping unit (LMU) with map overlay technique. Agronomic characters of soybean were observed on 12 weeks after planting (wap) and the physiological data were observed during the maximum vegetative phase (8 wap). Agronomic and physiological characters of soybean in each LMU were grouped and statistically tested with analysis of variance (ANOVA) then continued with orthogonal contrasts (alpha 5%). The results showed that some characters of soybean planted in alfisol had higher value than in vertisol, especially on leaf area, photosynthetic rate, root and canopy weight, 100 grain weight and grain weight per plant. The agronomic and physiological characters of soybean which had significant effects on yield in the intercropping with kayu putih system were stomatal density, stomatal conductivity, photosynthetic rate, and leaf area. Soybean intercropped with kayu putih produced 1.007 tons/ha in alfisol and 0.996 tons/ha in vertisol.     A dry-field (tegalan) is one of the subsystems of classical agroforestry, where there is no intensive management of both the spacing and the selection of the type that is considered. Dry-field (tegalan) agroforestry subsystems have a state that resembles natural forest ecosystems. It became an opportunity execution of research related to the stands composition of dry-field (tegalan) and forest nature. The purpose of this study is to determine the pattern of developing agroforestry in Bulu and the relation of the natural forest. This research was conducted in Bulu-Giripurwo Village, Girimulyo District, Kulonprogo. Data was collected at 36 sample plots representing 3 strata. The first stratum had an area of &lt; 1000 m2, the second 1,000 m2ā€“2,000 m2, and the third &gt; 2,000 m2. K-Means Cluster Analysis and exponential equation modeling was used to analyze the dry-field (tegalan). The results of this study indicate that there were three models of management of cultivated land in Bulu; the Mixed Model, Model MPTS dominant plants, and forest trees dominant model. Mixed models had the stand equation Y = 3.39 x 2.7128-0,026X with an R2 of 0.798. The dominant MPTS plan models had the stand equation 3,155 x 2.7128-0,021X with an R2 of 0.770. The dominant of forest trees models has stands equation Y = 3.182 x 2.7128-0,024X with R2 of 0.706. These results demonstrate agroforestry modeling subsystem dry-field (tegalan) has characteristics resembling natural forest indicated from the value of R2 that characterized so close with the equation of uneven-aged forest model

    Perkembangan Tajuk Pohon Jati Berasal dari Bui, Kultur Jaringan dan Stek Pucuk

    Pengelolaan hutan, pengguna pohon utama jati mengalami problematika penyediaan benih dan intensifikasi lahan. Program pencarian bahan tanaman jati menghasilkan altematif pilihan yang berasal dari biji, kultur jaringan dan stek. Ketiga bahan tanaman ini mempunyai karakteristik yang perlu dikaji terutama perkembangan tajuk yang berhubungan dengan intensifikasi lahan. Intensifikasi lahan menekankan altematif manajemen ruang dalam bentuk agroforestri. Desain penelitian menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap Berblok (RCBD) dengan tiga bahan tanaman (menggunakan variasi 5 pohon plus) dan tiga blok. Plot perlakuan berbentuk bujur sangkar, setiap plot berisi sembilan pohon dengan jarak tanam 6 m x 2 m. Estimasi penutupan tajuk dicapai pada waktu tegakan berumur berurut-turut 12 tahun, 15,2 tahun dan 8,5 tahun bila biji, kultur jaringan dan stek pucuk dipakai sebagai bahan tanaman. Bila persediaan biji bermutu cukup, biji sebagai bahan tanaman adalah pilihan pertama, sedangkan apabila persediaan benih terbatas, dua altematif lainnya dapat digunakan dengan pertimbangan penguasaan teknik dan lebih dari itu, alasan ekonomi
