. Current concerns over the negative impacts of Hg in the environment have led to the rapid progress of studies in this area. This progress has been directed to obtain analysis techniques that are able to accurately quantify Mercury (Hg) at extremely low concentration in which it frequently occurs. As part of a study on the environmental aspects of deep-sea submarine tailing placement at the Batu Hijau Mine, Sumbawa, this paper discusses recent progress in Hg analytical techniques, followed by the application of several techniques to investigate Hg concentration in seawater in the vicinity of the tailing discharge location. Using cold vapour atomic fluorescence spectrometry, dissolved Hg was found to be at sub-ng/l (ppt) levels. No dissolved Hg signal associated with the tailing discharge was found with concentrations being similar to adjacent coastal waters

Indian women writers of the twentieth and twenty first centuries always try to raise the issues related to women with a fresh perspective. These women writers have presented life through literature with great vividness. Among the feminist writers, Shashi Deshpande gets a prominent place in later part of the twentieth century. Deshpande\u27s novels often deal with the problem and sufferings of women in middle class family, which reflects the realistic picture of the contemporary middle class family life. The present article clearly declares the despondency state of middle class women as portrayed in Deshpande\u27s That Long Silence. Jaya is the main character of this novel. The silence between Jaya and her husband further deteriorates the situation. She realizes at the end that she should break the silence and try to achieve her identity as an individual through self-realization and self-assertion

The purpose of this study identify the parameters of the land degradation, in order to know the level of damage that occurs as a decision-making approach to the problem so that appropriate land productivity does not decreased, even increased as the cultivated area has a function for biomass production. The first step was to determine the potential indicative soil damage by overlaying the GIS-based digital maps, such as the map of soil type, slope, rainfall and land cover maps and then with RTRW/K. The result obtained that there are 4 classes of indicative damage land, they are very low, low, medium and high. The next focus was on the location of the high level damage potential, particularly in the village of Tanah Kuning, sub district of East Tanjung Palas. Result from field verification showed that effective soil depth (solum soil) > 150 cm, slope 15-25% and 6 soil samples taken for laboratory analyzes. The results of the evaluation of 10 land damage parameters showed that there are 2 parameters exceed a critical threshold, namely the composition of the fractions and pH (acidity) of the soil. The parameter exceeds a critical threshold pH found on all samples (6 samples), while the composition of the fraction was only one sample. Based on the relative frequency score status of soil damage is minor damage with the limiting factors are composition of sand fraction and the pH of acid soils. Remedial action against excessive sand composition was difficult because of permanent nature, while improving the soil pH (very acid) can be reduced with the application of agricultural lime and organic compost

The purpose of this study is to analyze the role of Regional Inflation Monitoring and Regional Controlling Inflation Team (TPID) toward Inflation Restraint (Case Study: North Sumatra Province). This study uses time series data, ie the data is monthly inflation (mounth to mounth) and measured using the Consumer Price Index (CPI) of North Sumatra Province period January 2002 - December 2013. The processing and analysis of data using linier regression model with dummy independent variable and Univariate Autoregressive (AR) time series model using Eviews program. In addition, in analyzing the rate of inflation persistence North Sumatra province conducted a study of sources of inflation persistence and the term back to its natural value. This study found that Regional Inflation Monitoring and Regional Controlling Inflation Team (TPID) have an impact to control the inflation North Sumatra Province. Commodity groups with the highest rate of inflation persistence is the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel and commodity groups groceries. The study also found that the length of time required by expenditure group to return to its natural value of 3.3 days to 16.15 days
