    Improving Mathematical Problem-solving Ability and Self-confidence of High School Students Through Contextual Learning Model

    The purposes of this study are: (1) to know if students' mathematical problem-solving ability taught by contextual learning model is higher than students taught by expository learning, (2) to know if students' self-confidence taught by contextual learning model is higher than students taught by expository learning, (3) to know if there is interaction between learning model and students' early mathematical ability to improve students' mathematical problem-solving ability, (4) to know if there is interaction between learning model and students' early mathematical to improve students' self-confidence. This study is a quasi-experimental research. The population in this study consists of 180 students in grade VIII SMP Muhammadiyah 11 Pangkalan Brandan. Two classes (60 students) are taken as sample. Data were analyzed by two way Anova. The results of this study indicate that (1) students' capability of solving mathematical problems taught with contextual learning model is higher than students taught by expository, (2) students' self-confidence taught by contextual learning model is higher than students taught by expository, (3) there is interaction between learning model and students' early mathematical ability to improve students' mathematical problem-solving ability, (4) there is interaction between learning model and students' early mathematical to improve students' self-confidence

    The students' difficulty which was found is in the problem of understanding, drawing diagrams, reading the charts correctly, conceptual formal mathematical understanding, and mathematical problem solving. The appropriate problem representation is the basic way in order to understand the problem itself and make a plan to solve it. This research was the experimental classroom design with a pretest-posttest control in order to increase the representation of visual thinking ability on mathematical problem solving approach with contextual learning. The research instrument was a test, observation and interviews. Contextual approach increases of mathematical representations ability increases in students with high initial category, medium, and low compared to conventional approaches

    The aim of this study to determined whether the implementation of Problem Based Learning Learning (PBL) model could improve learning activities and problem solving skills of mathematics students in class VIIB SMP Negeri 3 Medan (Seventh Year Juniour High School), amounting to 30 students. The type of this study was a classroom action research that took two cycles. Data collection was done through tests and observations. The results of the research in the Cycle 1 showed that the average value of observation of the research activity was 2.9 with good category, and the percentage of student learning activity was 57% with less active category. The average value of problem solving ability is 4.87 with very low category. The results of the research in Cycle 2 showed the average value of observation 3.65 with very good category. Percentage of student learning activity was 79% with active category. The average problem solving ability of student math was 8.38 with high ability category. The result of the research showed that the implementation of Problem Based Learning (PBL) model could increased learning activity and problem solving ability of student mathematics in class VIIB of SMP Negeri 3 Medan

    The study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of learning mathematics through stop approach do the students think MTs . Budi Agung Medan T.P 2013/2014 . This research is quantitative . The instrument uses observation and tests . The population in this study all students in grade VIII . RESULTS: The percentage of students overall effectiveness by 75 % , entrance to the effective criteria . For more information the t test analysis and test table = 1.99 thitung gain for the index since thitung 6.696 > t table Ha is accepted then there are differences in the average index gain experimental class and the control class known experimental class learning outcomes better than the control class , so that learning mathematics through stop think do an effective approach

    Peranan hutan dalam mengatur aliran sungai, baik debit aliran maupun debit sedimen, telah lama menjadi perhatian. Para ahli hidrologi berpendapat peranan hutan dalam mengatur aliran sungai dan sedimentasi hanya berlaku pada Daerah Aliran Sungai (DAS) yang mempunyai luasan sempit ( 100 km2. Guna mengantisipasi kelemahan kelemahan penelitian sebelumnya, penelitian yang mengkaji peranan penutupan lahan hutan terhadap aliran sungai dan proses sedimentasi pada DAS dilaksanakan pada DAS dengan luasan sempit ( 500 km2). Penelitian ini memanfaatkan model hidrologi SWAT. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengkaji peranan penggunaan lahan hutan dalam pengaturan tata air dan sedimentasi yang terjadi pada suatu DAS dengan beberapa luasan tanpa mengabaikan peranan penggunaan lahan lain. Pada luasan DAS lebar, keberadaan hutan kurang berperan dalam mengatur tata air dan proses sedimentasi.     Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk : (1) menganalisis perbedaan kemampuan spasial matematis siswa melalui model pembelajaran kontekstual dan penemuan terbimbing berorientasi budaya Batak Mandailing, (2) menganalisis perbedaan motivasi belajar siswa melalui model pembelajaran kontekstual dan penemuan terbimbing berorientasi budaya Batak Mandailing, (3) mengetahui apakah terdapat interaksi antara model pembelajaran dan KAM siswa terhadap kemampuan spasial siswa, (4) mengetahui apakah terdapat interaksi antara model pembelajaran dan KAM siswa terhadap motivasi belajar siswa. Instrumen yang digunakan terdiri dari : (1) tes kemampuan spasial, (2) angket motivasi belajar. Analisis data dilakukan dengan analisis varians (ANAVA) dua jalur . Hasil penelitiaan menunjukkan: (1) terdapat perbedaan kemampuan spasial siswa melalui melalui model pembelajaran kontekstual dan penemuan terbimbing berorientasi budaya Batak Mandailing, (2) terdapat perbedaan motivasi belajar siswa melalui model pembelajaran kontekstual dan penemuan terbimbing berorientasi budaya Batak Mandailing, (3) tidak terdapat interaksi antara model pembelajaran dan KAM siswa terhadap kemampuan spasial siswa, (4) tidak terdapat interaksi antara model pembelajaran dan KAM siswa terhadap motivasi belajar siswa
