    Inter-Organizational Information Systems Visibility in Buyer-Supplier Relationships: Buyer and Supplier Perspectives

    Many researchers have called for the need to improve the understanding of the concept and working of supply chain visibility. The facilitating role of inter-organizational information systems (IOIS) in achieving SC visibility has received inadequate research attention. This paper is to elaborate on the novel concept of IOIS visibility and to look into the antecedents and consequences of IOIS visibility. Further, investigating SC cooperation from the perspectives of both partners is important, especially when channel partners depend on each other and there can be asymmetries in IOIS visibility. This study attempts to accommodate both partners’ perspectives in IOIS visibility. The data that this study requires were collected from 51 matched pairs of intermediate producers of telecommunication equipment components and their immediate suppliers. The results show that IOIS visibility from the supplier’s perspectives is an important predictor of supply chain performance. In turn, IOIS visibility is significantly influenced by supply chain partner’s internal IS integration and inter-organizational IT infrastructure compatibility. The impact of asymmetries in IOIS visibility on supply chain performance is also investigated

    Synchrotron study of the garnet-type oxide Li6CaSm2Ta2O12

    Hexalithium calcium disamarium(III) ditantalum(V) dodeca­oxide, Li6CaSm2Ta2O12, crystallizes in a cubic garnet-type structure. In the crystal structure, disordered Li atoms occupy two crystallographic sites. One Li has a tetra­hedral coordination environment in the oxide lattice, whereas the other Li atom occupies a significantly distorted octa­hedral site, with site occupancies for the two Li atoms of 0.26 (7) and 0.44 (2), respectively. Ca and Sm atoms are statistically distributed over the same crystallographic position with a occupancy of 2/3 for Sm and of 1/3 for Ca, and are eightfold coordinated by O atoms. The TaO6 octa­hedron is joined to six others via corner-sharing LiO4 tetra­hedra. One Li and the O atoms lie on general positions, while the other atoms are situated on special positions. The Sm/Ca position has 222, Ta has , and the tetra­hedrally coordinated Li atom has site symmetry

    Laparoendoscopic Single-Site Nephroureterectomy with Bladder Cuff Excision for Upper Urinary Tract Transitional-Cell Carcinoma: Technical Details Based on Oncologic Principles

    Purpose: To describe our technical details of laparoendoscopic single-site (LESS) nephroureterectomy with bladder cuff excision for the management of upper urinary tract transitional-cell carcinoma (TCC) based on oncologic principles. Patients and Methods: Two patients underwent LESS nephroureterectomy for upper urinary tract TCC. In both cases, we used a homemade single-port device that consisted of a wound retractor and a surgical glove. Using the flexible laparoscopic instruments, nephrectomy was performed using procedures similar to those of conventional laparoscopic nephrectomy. Bladder cuff excision was performed laparoscopically using the same procedure with open technique. Results: All procedures were completed successfully without conversion to conventional laparoscopic or open surgery and without additional extraumbilical trocars or incisions. LESS nephreoureterectomy with bladder cuff excision was performed in 385 and 285 minutes with estimated blood loss of 100 and 350 mL, respectively. Both patients were discharged on postoperative day 3 without perioperative complications.     A case of idiopathic isolated hypoglossal nerve palsy in a Korean child

    Hypoglossal nerve palsy (HNP) is an uncommon neurological abnormality that can provoke characteristic clinical signs, including unilateral atrophy of the tongue musculature. We present the case of a healthy 11-year-old Korean male who was admitted to the outpatient department of our institution with acute onset dysarthria, tongue fasciculations, and right-sided tongue weakness upon awakening. His evaluation included a virology work-up, neck magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), brain MRI, and otorhinolaryngological physical examination; all tests were normal and showed no evidence of inflammation.     A versatile photoanode-driven photoelectrochemical system for conversion of CO2 to fuels with high faradaic efficiencies at low bias potentials

    A photoanode-driven photoelectrochemical system consisting of a WO 3 photoanode under bias potential and Cu or Sn/SnOx as the cathode for the reduction of CO2 has been studied under visible light irradiation. The bias potentials typically required for the onset of oxygen evolution current at the photoanode were sufficient for the efficient reduction of CO2 at the metallic/composite counter electrodes. Using Cu as a cathode electrocatalyst, faradaic efficiencies of 67% for CH4 and 71.6% for all carbon-containing products were achieved. With Sn/SnO x, a combined faradaic efficiency (CO + HCOOH) of 44.3% was obtained at +0.8 V. The 2-electrode potential between the counter electrode and working electrode for the WO3 driven system was less than the lowest bias potential reported so far for conventional photocathode-driven systems. The results demonstrate for the first time that the intrinsically more stable photoanode-driven systems could accomplish the reduction of CO2 with higher efficiencies relative to the conventional photocathode-driven systems.close2

    Focal adhesion and actin organization by a cross-talk of TM4SF5 with integrin alpha 2 are regulated by serum treatment

    The biological functions of transmembrane 4 L6 family member 5 (TM4SF5) homologues to a tumor-associated antigen L6 are unknown, although it is over-expressed in certain forms of cancer. In the present study, the ectopic expression of TM4SF5 in Cos7 cells reduced integrin signaling under serum-containing conditions, but increased integrin signaling upon serum-free replating on substrates. TM4SF5 regulated actin organization and focal contact dynamics via the serum treatment-dependent differential regulation of FAK Tyr925 and paxillin Tyr118 phosphorylations and their localizations on peripheral cell boundaries. Y925F FAK mutation abolished the TM4SF5 effects. TM4SF5 associated with integrin alpha 2 subunit, and this association was abolished by serum treatment. Furthermore, functional blocking anti-integrin alpha 2 antibody abolished TM4SF5-enhanced signaling activity and caused membrane blebbing with abnormal actin organization. TM4SF5 increased chemotactic but decreased haptotactic migration. Altogether, this study reveals the functions of TM4SF5 collaborative with integrin signaling to alter focal contact dynamics, actin reorganization, and migration. Furthermore, this study suggests a mechanism of cross-talk between TM4SF5 and integrin which is further regulated by growth factor signaling. (c) 2006 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.N

    Initial Experience with Laparoendoscopic Single-Site Surgery by Use of a Homemade Transumbilical Port in Urology

    Purpose: We present our initial experience with laparoendoscopic single-site surgery (LESS) by a single surgeon in the urologic field. Materials and Methods: From May 2009 to April 2010, 30 consecutive patients underwent LESS including seven cases of nephrectomy, five cases of nephroureterectomy with bladder cuff excision, four cases of ureterolithotomy, eight cases of marsupialization, and six cases of varicocelectomy. We performed a retrospective analysis of the medical records of the above patients. The single port was made with a surgical glove and an Alexis?? wound retractor (Applied Medical, Rancho Santa Margarita, CA, USA). The wound retractor was put into the peritoneal space through an umbilical incision, and a laparoscopic triangle was secured by crossing both instruments. All operations were performed by the transperitoneal approach. Results: Mean patient age was 54.8 years. Mean operative time was 171.2??109.1 minutes. Mean estimated blood loss was 265.0??395.5 ml. Mean incision length was 3.2??1.4 cm. Mean length of hospitalization was 5.2??2.9 days. There was one laparoscopic conversion and two open conversions. There were two cases of transient ileus that improved with conservative treatment. Mean visual analogue pain scales on the operative day and first postoperative day were 6.3/10 and 3.1/10, respectively. Conclusions: In our experience, LESS for urologic surgery is feasible, safe, and clinically applicable. We consider the homemade single-port device to be a relatively cost-effective and convenient device. If surgical instruments for LESS and appropriate ports specified for LESS are developed, LESS would be a surgical treatment technique that could be used as an alternative to the conventional types of laparoscopic surgery. ??     Availability of the Pediatric Emergency Care Applied Research Network (PECARN) rule for computed tomography scanning decision in children younger than 2 years with minor head injury

    Purpose Traumatic brain injury is the most common cause of pediatric injury. Although computed tomography (CT) scan is an effective modality for screening fatal craniocerebral trauma, there is growing concern about radiation exposure associated with the consequent cancer particularly in children. We assessed validity of previous large prospective study named Pediatric Emergency Care Applied Research Network (PECARN) retrospectively to determine the necessity of CT scans for children younger than 2 years with minor head injury. Methods We reviewed medical records of children younger than 2 years discharged from our emergency department with S00–09 diagnosis code of ICD-10 from August 2008 to December 2014. Patients who had only soft tissue injury without blunt trauma, did not CT scan take brain CT, whose head trauma was not mild, and who was uncertain to meet the rule were excluded. All included patients were divided into the PECARN rule positive group and negative group. Each group was compared by sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value and negative predictive value to predict four outcomes of clinically important traumatic brain injury (ciTBI), abnormal CT findings, intracranial hemorrhage, and isolated simple skull fracture. Results A total of 1,491 patients were included, 656 PECARN rule positive and 835 negative patients. There is statistical difference between PECARN rule positive and negative the 2 group for ciTBI (P < 0.001), abnormal CT findings (P < 0.001), intracranial hemorrhage (P < 0.001), and isolated simple skull fracture (P < 0.001) with high sensitivity (100.0%, 89.5%, 91.7%,85.7%) and negative predictive value (100.0%, 99.3%, 99.6%, 99.6%). Conclusion We confirmed that PECARN rule is a useful tool to determine the necessity of CT scan and reduce unnecessary CT scan for children younger than 2 years with minor head injury

    Nomograms for Prediction of Disease Recurrence in Patients with Primary Ta, T1 Transitional Cell Carcinoma of the Bladder

    We developed nomograms to predict disease recurrence in patients with Ta, T1 transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder. Thirty-eight training hospitals participated in this retrospective multicenter study. Between 1998 and 2002, a total of 1,587 patients with newly diagnosed non-muscle invasive bladder cancer were enrolled in this study. Patients with prior histories of bladder cancer, non-transitional cell carcinoma, or a follow-up duration of less than 12 months were excluded. With univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses, we constructed nomograms to predict disease recurrence, and internal validation was performed using statistical techniques. Three-year and five-year recurrence-free rates were 64.3% and 55.3%, respectively. Multivariate analysis revealed that age (hazard ratio [HR]=1.437, p<0.001), tumor size (HR=1.328, p=0.001), multiplicity (HR=1.505, p<0.001), tumor grade (HR=1.347, p=0.007), concomitant carcinoma in situ (HR=1.611, p=0.007), and intravesical therapy (HR=0.681, p<0.001) were independent predictors for disease recurrence. Based on these prognostic factors, nomograms for the prediction of disease recurrence were developed. These nomograms can be used to predict the probability of disease recurrence in patients with newly diagnosed Ta, T1 transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder. They may be useful for patient counseling, clinical trial design, and patient follow-up planning
