New Experimental-Technique For The Fabrication Of Ion Diffused Optical-Glass Wave-Guides

    Get PDF
A new electric-field-assisted ion diffusion technique has been used for the fabrication of optical waveguides in glass. The construction of the setup is discussed in detail. Ion exchange in standard glass slide can be performed very efficiently and the setup can be conveniently used for double diffusions which are required for the fabrication of buried waveguides. Silver ions of various mole fractions were diffused in glass by this technique. Diffusion depth measurements were made both for the fabricated planar and channel waveguides

Work function determination of zinc oxide films

    Get PDF
Zinc oxide-silicon heterojunctions were fabricated using both n- and p-type silicon. The zinc oxide films were deposited by the magnetron sputtering process at various substrate temperatures to form these devices. The electrical properties of these devices were measured and the work function of the zinc oxide was evaluated from these properties

Utilization of head and vertebrae of Otolithoides biauritus - a new economic resource

    Get PDF
Otolithoides biauritus, locally called as koth is an important resource in Maharashtra. Exploited by multi-day trawlers, the resource is abundant throughout the year with peak landings during the period of October-December, at New Ferry Wharf landing centre. These trawlers are operated at a depth of 40-60 m, 80-90 km off north-west coast. The total length of the fish in trawl landings usually ranges between 90-150 cm

Determination of absorption of vitamin B12 by a double isotope tracer technique

    Get PDF
A new simple method for the study of vitamin B12 absorption involving the use of two tracers is described. Along with 58Co labeled vitamin B12 an unabsorbable marker in the form of 51Cr labeled chromic oxide is administered to the patients. The ratio of the activities of the two isotopes in the standard is compared with the ratio of the activies of these isotopes in an aliquot of a stool sample collected after 24 or 48 hours. The absorption of labeled vitamin B12 is estimated from the alteration in the ratio of absorbable and unabsorbable isotopes in the stool sample. The method compares well with other methods of estimating vitamin B12 absorption such as Schilling's test, total faecal collection and whole body counting

Bumper landing of Arius dussumieri (Valenciennes, 1846) by purse-seine net at Sassoon Dock, Mumbai

    Get PDF
On 02-11-04, an unusually heavy landing of 80 tonnes of the catfish Arius dussumieri was reported at the New Jetty of Sassoon Dock.A purse-seiner made the entire catch in a single haul at 25-30 m depth, at a distance of 25-30 km off Mumbai Harbour. On enquiry at Karanja Fishermen Society, it was reported that a similar bumper catch of approximately 120 tonnes was reported on 30-10-04. A catch of such magnitude by purse-seiners is reported for the first time from Mumbai waters. The catch fortunately did not have any brooding specimens

Unusual heavy landings of Bombayduck by trawlers at New Ferry Wharf, Mumbai during October-December

    Get PDF
Harpadon nehereus (Ham.) commonly known as 'Bombay duck' and locally called "Bombil" exercise a direct influence upon the livelihood of artisanal fishermen along the northwest coast of India . The major portion of the catch is landed in Satpati-Dahanu area of Maharashtra and Jaffrabad-Nawabunder area of Gujarat. The season for Bombayduck lasts from September to May, with the bulk of landings taking place during October December.Bombayduck is exploited by indigenous dol net, operated up to 40m depth. In Maharashtra the catch of Bombayduck over the last ten years has shown a declining trend. New Ferry Wharf is the only landing centre in Maharashtra where the catch of Bombayduck has gradually increased over the last five years.Bombayduck is not a target species for trawl, while returning after completing fishing activity, the trawlers fish in the dol net fishing grounds

Emerging commercial fishery of Rachycentron canadum (Linnaeus, 1766) at New Ferry Wharf, Mumbai

Rachycentron canadum is commonly known as 'cobia' and locally called as 'sakla'. This species is distributed world wide in warm seas except for the eastern Pacific region. It is pelagic but is also found over shallow coral reefs and off rocky shores and occasionally found in estuaries (Fischer and Bianchi, 1984

SKILL ACQUISITION FOR ENHANCING EMPLOYABILITY THROUGH MULTIPLE LEARNING EXPERIENCE INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGY (MLEIS) тАУ TOWARDS ENSURING INCLUSIVE AND EQUITABLE TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION

    Get PDF
Matching skills to jobs has long been one of the important goals of education. The National Employability Report (2016) has highlighted the fact that engineering graduates do not fulfill the basic criteria of employability. It has been reported the current strategies do not address multiple modes and levels of numeracy, programming, computer literacy, algorithm and programming. It was revealed that students find certain subjects quite difficult and the objective based achievement test revealed failure to realize learning objectives and learning outcomes. Theory based instructional strategies and lecture mode of instructional delivery has been found to be not suited for engineering education [1]. In this study, the effectiveness of a Multiple Learning Experience based Instructional strategy (MLEIS) is explored. MLEIS is based on theories of learning, instruction design, learning styles and techno pedagogies. MLEIS envisages a skill based curricular strategy which addresses diversity, inclusiveness focusing on aspects like skill development, skill acquisition, professional competency and subject comprehension.┬а Article visualizations
