Immunohistochemical localization of glucagon and pancreatic polypeptide on rat endocrine pancreas: coexistence in rat islet cells
We used immunofluorescence double staining method to investigate the cellular localization of glucagon and pancreatic polypeptide (PP) in rat pancreatic islets. The results showed that both A-cells (glucagon-secreting cells) and PP-cells (PP-secreting cells) were located in the periphery of the islets. However, A-cells and PP-cells had a different regional distribution. Most of A-cells were located in the splenic lobe but a few of them were in the duodenal lobe of the pancreas. In contrast, the majority of PP-cells were found in the duodenal lobe and a few of them were in the splenic lobe of the pancreas. Furthermore, we found that 67.74% A-cells had PP immunoreactivity, 70.92% PP-cells contained glucagon immunoreactivity with immunofluorescence double staining. Our data support the concept of a common precursor stem cell for pancreatic hormone-producing cells
Spin diffusion in -type (111) GaAs quantum wells
We utilize the kinetic spin Bloch equation approach to investigate the
steady-state spin diffusion in -type (111) GaAs quantum wells, where the
in-plane components of the Dresselhaus spin-orbit coupling term and the Rashba
term can be partially canceled by each other. A peak of the spin diffusion
length due to the cancellation is predicted in the perpendicular electric field
dependence. It is shown that the spin diffusion length around the peak can be
markedly controlled via temperature and doping. When the electron gas enters
into the degenerate regime, the electron density also leads to observable
influence on the spin diffusion in the strong cancellation regime. Furthermore,
we find that the spin diffusion always presents strong anisotropy with respect
to the direction of the injected spin polarization. The anisotropic spin
diffusion depends on whether the electric field is far away from or in the
strong cancellation regime.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures, to be published in Solid State Commu
Signal and System Approximation from General Measurements
In this paper we analyze the behavior of system approximation processes for
stable linear time-invariant (LTI) systems and signals in the Paley-Wiener
space PW_\pi^1. We consider approximation processes, where the input signal is
not directly used to generate the system output, but instead a sequence of
numbers is used that is generated from the input signal by measurement
functionals. We consider classical sampling which corresponds to a pointwise
evaluation of the signal, as well as several more general measurement
functionals. We show that a stable system approximation is not possible for
pointwise sampling, because there exist signals and systems such that the
approximation process diverges. This remains true even with oversampling.
However, if more general measurement functionals are considered, a stable
approximation is possible if oversampling is used. Further, we show that
without oversampling we have divergence for a large class of practically
relevant measurement procedures.Comment: This paper will be published as part of the book "New Perspectives on

BCS and BEC p-wave pairing in Bose-Fermi gases
The pairing of fermionic atoms in a mixture of atomic fermion and boson gases
at zero temperature is investigated. The attractive interaction between
fermions, that can be induced by density fluctuations of the bosonic
background, can give rise to a superfluid phase in the Fermi component of the
mixture. The atoms of both species are assumed to be in only one internal
state, so that the pairing of fermions is effective only in odd-l channels. No
assumption about the value of the ratio between the Fermi velocity and the
sound velocity in the Bose gas is made in the derivation of the energy gap
equation. The gap equation is solved without any particular "ansatz" for the
pairing field or the effective interaction. The p-wave superfluidity is studied
in detail. By increasing the strength and/or decreasing the range of the
effective interaction a transition of the fermion pairing regime, from the
Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer state to a system of tightly bound couples can be
realized. These composite bosons behave as a weakly-interacting Bose-Einstein
condensate.Comment: 14 pages, 6 eps-figures. To be published in European Physical Journal

Measurements of the observed cross sections for exclusive light hadrons containing at , 3.650 and 3.6648 GeV
By analyzing the data sets of 17.3, 6.5 and 1.0 pb taken,
respectively, at , 3.650 and 3.6648 GeV with the BES-II
detector at the BEPC collider, we measure the observed cross sections for

cross sections and the branching fractions for decay into these
final states at 90% C.L..Comment: 7 pages, 2 figure
Partial wave analysis of J/\psi \to \gamma \phi \phi
Using events collected in the BESII detector, the
