    Decay Properties of 266^{266}Bh and 262^{262}Db Produced in the 248^{248}Cm + 23^{23}Na Reaction

    Decay properties of an isotope 266^{266}Bh and its daughter nucleus 262^{262}Db produced by the 248^{248}Cm(23^{23}Na, 5\textit{n}) reaction were studied by using a gas-filled recoil separator coupled with a position-sensitive semiconductor detector. 266^{266}Bh was clearly identified from the correlation of the known nuclide, 262^{262}Db. The obtained decay properties of 266^{266}Bh and 262^{262}Db are consistent with those observed in the 278^{278}113 chain, which provided further confirmation of the discovery of 278^{278}113.Comment: Accepted for publication in J.     Analysis of mechanism of sand deposition inside a fishing port using BG model

    A large amount of sand deposited in the wave-shelter zone of Ohtsu fishing port located in northern Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan, resulting in a difficulty in navigation at the pot entrance. The BG model (a three-dimensional model for predicting beach changes based on Bagnold's concept) ws used to solve this problem. Measures against sand deposition inside the port were investigated and the most appropriate measure found for preventing sand deposition was the extension of a jetty by 100 m at the tip of the west breakwater. The applicability of the BG model to such prediction was confirmed

    Zinc-telluride compound semiconductors were electrodeposited from acidic aqueous solution. Under potential deposition (UPD) of zinc was observed during the co-deposition of zinc and tellurium. UPD of zinc was promoted by rising the solution temperature up to 353K.     A simple, low-cost conductive composite material for 3D printing of electronic sensors

    3D printing technology can produce complex objects directly from computer aided digital designs. The technology has traditionally been used by large companies to produce fit and form concept prototypes (‘rapid prototyping’) before production. In recent years however there has been a move to adopt the technology as full-scale manufacturing solution. The advent of low-cost, desktop 3D printers such as the RepRap and Fab@Home has meant a wider user base are now able to have access to desktop manufacturing platforms enabling them to produce highly customised products for personal use and sale. This uptake in usage has been coupled with a demand for printing technology and materials able to print functional elements such as electronic sensors. Here we present formulation of a simple conductive thermoplastic composite we term ‘carbomorph’ and demonstrate how it can be used in an unmodified low-cost 3D printer to print electronic sensors able to sense mechanical flexing and capacitance changes. We show how this capability can be used to produce custom sensing devices and user interface devices along with printed objects with embedded sensing capability. This advance in low-cost 3D printing with offer a new paradigm in the 3D printing field with printed sensors and electronics embedded inside 3D printed objects in a single build process without requiring complex or expensive materials incorporating additives such as carbon nanotubes

    Soft Magnetic Property of Electrodeposited Nickel-Tungsten Alloys

    Nickel-tungsten alloy (Ni_W_) containing up to 15% tungsten has been electrochemically synthesized. Crystal grain size decreased and the lattice constant increased with increasing in tungsten content in deposit. The Nickel-tungsten alloy contains nano-size crystals.     Nano-crystalline nickel-molybdenum alloys were electrochemically synthesized from aqueous solution. With increasing molybdenum content in the alloy up to 23.6%, the crystal grain size decreased down to several nanometers scale. The magnetic coercive force decreased to several oersteds with increasing the molybdenum content.     Comparison of care and outcomes for myocardial infarction by heart failure status between United Kingdom and Japan

    Aims: Prognosis for ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) is worse when heart failure is present on admission. Understanding clinical practice in different health systems can identify areas for quality improvement initiatives to improve outcomes. In the absence of international comparison studies, we aimed to compare treatments and in-hospital outcomes of patients admitted with ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) by heart failure status in two healthcare-wide cohorts. Methods and results: We used two nationwide databases to capture admissions with STEMI in the United Kingdom (Myocardial ischemia National Audit Project, MINAP) and Japan (Japanese Registry of All Cardiac and Vascular Diseases-Diagnostic Procedure Combination, JROAD-DPC) between 2012 and 2017. Participants were stratified using the HF Killip classification into three groups; Killip 1: no congestive heart failure, Killip 2–3: congestive heart failure, Killip 4: cardiogenic shock. We calculated crude rate and case mix standardized risk ratios (CSRR) for use of treatments and in-hospital death. Patients were younger in the United Kingdom (65.4 [13.6] vs. 69.1 [13.0] years) and more likely to have co-morbidities in the United Kingdom except for diabetes and hypertension. Japan had a higher percentage of heart failure and cardiogenic shock patients among STEMI during admission than that in the United Kingdom. Primary percutaneous coronary intervention (pPCI) rates were lower in the United Kingdom compared with Japan, especially for patients presenting with Killip 2–3 class heart failure (pPCI use in patients with Killip 1, 2–3, 4: Japan, 86.2%, 81.7%, 78.7%; United Kingdom, 79.6%, 58.2% and 79.9%). In contrast, beta-blocker use was consistently lower in Japan than in the United Kingdom (61.4% vs. 90.2%) across Killip classifications and length of hospital stay longer (17.0 [9.7] vs. 5.0 [7.4] days). The crude rate of in-hospital mortality increased with increasing Killip class group. Both the crude rate and CSRR was higher in the United Kingdom compared with Japan for Killip 2–3 (15.8% vs. 6.4%, CSRR 1.80 95% CI 1.73–1.87, P < 0.001), and similar for Killip 4 (36.9% vs. 36.3%, CSRR 1.11 95% CI 1.08–1.13, P < 0.001). Conclusions: Important differences in the care and outcomes for STEMI with heart failure exist between the United Kingdom and Japan. Specifically, in the United Kingdom, there was a lower rate of pPCI, and in Japan, fewer patients were prescribed beta blockers and hospital length of stay was longer. This international comparison can inform targeted quality improvement programmes to narrow the outcome gap between health systems

    Cross Section and Transverse Single-Spin Asymmetry of η\eta Mesons in p+pp^{\uparrow}+p Collisions at s=200\sqrt{s}=200 GeV at Forward Rapidity

    We present a measurement of the cross section and transverse single-spin asymmetry (ANA_N) for η\eta mesons at large pseudorapidity from s=200\sqrt{s}=200~GeV p+pp^{\uparrow}+p collisions. The measured cross section for 0.5<pT<5.00.5<p_T<5.0~GeV/cc and 3.0<η<3.83.0<|\eta|<3.8 is well described by a next-to-leading-order perturbative-quantum-chromodynamics calculation. The asymmetries ANA_N have been measured as a function of Feynman-xx (xFx_F) from 0.2<xF<0.70.2<|x_{F}|<0.7, as well as transverse momentum (pTp_T) from 1.0<pT<4.51.0<p_T<4.5~GeV/cc. The asymmetry averaged over positive xFx_F is AN=0.061±0.014\langle{A_{N}}\rangle=0.061{\pm}0.014. The results are consistent with prior transverse single-spin measurements of forward η\eta and π0\pi^{0} mesons at various energies in overlapping xFx_F ranges. Comparison of different particle species can help to determine the origin of the large observed asymmetries in p+pp^{\uparrow}+p collisions.Comment: 484 authors, 13 pages, 11 figures, 4 tables, 2008 data. v2 is version accepted by Phys.
