The classification of the genus Megalographa Lafontaine and Poole, 1991, is reviewed and the five known species diagnosed. The genus is essentially restricted to the New World, although one species M. biloba (Stephens) is migratory and has occasionally straggled to western Europe. A new species (Megalographa talamanca Lafontaine and Sullivan) endemic to the Talamanca Mountain Range in Costa Rica is described. Adults and genitalia are illustrated

New species of the Neotropical genus Campatonema Jones (Geometridae, Ennominae) with the first description of the female

    No full text
Two new species of Campatonema Jones are described, C. tapantia sp. n. from Costa Rica and C. yanayacua sp. n. from Ecuador. A third species, Campatonema lineata (Schaus), is transferred to Campatonema from “Sabulodes.” The female of Campatonema is described for the first time, and the tribal placement of Campatonema is discussed

A New Species of Rivula Guenée (Lepidoptera, Noctuidae) from Southeastern United States

Rivula stepheni sp. n. (Noctuidae, Rivulinae) is described from material collected in North Carolina and Louisiana. Illustrations of genitalia and adults of Rivula found in the United States are provided. The generic placement within the Noctuoidea is discussed

Two new species of the Hagnagora anicata complex (Geometridae, Larentiinae) from Costa Rica

Examination of the lectotype (here designated) reveals that Hagnagora anicata (Felder & Rogenhofer) does not occur in Costa Rica. Instead two new species are described, H. elianne sp. n. and H. unnia sp. n., and their distribution is discussed. The previous treatment of H. anicata as a single widespread species ranging from Jamaica and Mexico to Bolivia needs to be critically evaluated

The genus Doryodes Guenée is revised to include ten species including six species described as new (D. desoto Lafontaine & Sullivan; D. okaloosa Sullivan & Lafontaine; D. fusselli Sullivan & Lafontaine; D. reineckei Sullivan & Lafontaine; D. broui Lafontaine & Sullivan; and D. latistriga Sullivan & Lafontaine). A key to species, descriptions, and illustrations of adults and genitalia are included

A new apameine genus and species from the southern Appalachian Mountains, USA (Lepidoptera, Noctuidae, Noctuinae)

    No full text
Cherokeea gen. n. is proposed for a rarely collected apameine moth species from the southern Appalachian Mountains, C. attakullakulla sp. n. It is recorded from foothills and lower montane habitats of North Carolina and Georgia where hill cane, Arundinaria appalachiana Triplett, Weakley & L.G. Clark is found. Adults and their genitalia are figured and a mtDNA barcode sequence is given

Gondysia preceded Neadysgonia (Lepidoptera, Erebidae, Erebinae), a new generic synonymy from southeastern United States

The recently proposed genus Neadysgonia Sullivan, 2010, was preceded in the literature by Gondysia Berio, 1955, a monotypic genus based on specimens without locality labels but presumed to be from Madagascar. The genus Gondysia replaces Neadysgonia and the species G. pertorrida Berio, 1955, becomes a junior synonym of G. consobrina (Guenée, 1852)
