Applying Agile Project Management to Art Museums: A Proposal for Implementing a Generalist Scrum Master

    Get PDF
This capstone project examines organizational change, along with its challenges, through case studies in museums and businesses in the private sector, subsequently providing a possible solution for museums to adapt to the current global market economy through the use of Agile Project Management (Agile). I cite recent case studies of art museums implementing Agile for digital product development. This project proposal aims to introduce Agile outside of digital departments, including Exhibitions and Education, with the goal of developing better visitor-centered offerings from museums. This may be achieved through the proposal of a job description for a new museum position of Generalist Scrum Master, along with a three-year strategy of implementing Agile Project Management across various museum departments, including digital, exhibitions, and education

Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) for Thermal-Spray Coatings

    Get PDF
Thermal spray is the process of depositing metal, alloy, and ceramic coatings on properly prepared substrate materials so that they solidify on and bond mechanically, chemically, and metallurgically to the substrate materials. Thermal-spray coatings are applied to improve surface-wear characteristics, to provide resistance to heat, oxidation, and chemical environments; to restore dimension to the original equipment manufacturer\u27s (OEM) specifications; to reduce erosion wear; and to improve corrosion control

    Nurses' Cultural Competence: A Meta-analysis

    Get PDF
Cultural competence in nursing is essential in providing care that is centered around the unique, individual needs of patients from different cultures. This study used a meta-analysis research method to determine the different predictors of registered nurses’ cultural competence and their effect on cultural competence. Articles from 2010-2020 were collected on June 14-16, 2020 from research databases EBSCOhost, PubMed, and Google Scholar using the following search terms: nurse cultural competence, nurses cultural competency, nurse transcultural competence, nurse’ transcultural competency, nurse transcultural care, and nurse cultural care. From an initial of 170 studies, six studies qualified for inclusion in the meta-analysis based on the study criteria. From the six studies, 19 significant predictors of registered nurses’ cultural competence were identified, such as cultural skill, cultural desire, cultural encounter, cultural knowledge, attitude, cultural awareness, diversity training, empowerment, length of service, empathy, marital status, the experience of cultural education, work experience, experience caring for diverse patients, age, working in a specialty area, work shift, responsibility, and confidence level. Using the Hunter-Schmidt method, a significantly small correlation effect size (r =0.241) was found. There was no publication bias as revealed in the Rosenthal Fail-Safe N value of 3222. The results supported and confirmed Leininger’s Culture Care theory. It affirmed that the competence of nurses in caring for clients with different cultures is needed and important to provide culture-specific nursing care. Keywords: nurse, cultural competence, meta-analysi

Development of an Evidence-Based Practice Guideline for Prevention of Diaper Dermatitis

    Get PDF
Diaper dermatitis, an acute inflammatory reaction of the skin, is one of the most common forms of dermatitis among neonatal and pediatric patients. The problem addressed in this quality improvement project was the absence of an evidence-based practice (EBP) guideline for perineal care which resulted in 4 unexpected cases of diaper dermatitis per 100 hospital days at a non free standing children\u27s hospital. Framed within Rosswurm and Larrabee\u27s model for EBP, the purpose of this project was to develop an educational initiative encompassing an EBP guideline for perineal care, an educational curriculum plan for staff members, and a Power Point presentation to leadership on the educational initiative. A master\u27s prepared pediatric nurse educator served as content expert to evaluate the educational curriculum plan using a dichotomous scale (not met = 1/met = 2) format for the 8 objectives. Each of the 8 items was scored a 2, meaning all objectives were covered in the curriculum. The expert recommended that the methods and procedures used should be placed in the employee orientation process. The educational initiative was presented to the leadership team (n = 11) who evaluated the project using a Likert-type scale ranging from 1 (strongly disagree) to 5 (strongly agree). An average score of 5 was given, revealing that the objectives of the presentation were met. The leadership team recommended that the project be implemented. Positive social change may result from this DNP project by facilitating neonatal/pediatric skin integrity through evidence-based nursing care thus promoting patient well-being and prevention of hospital acquired infections

Perception of patients with type 2 diabetic mellitus towards insulin therapy

Insulin therapy is one of the prominent treatment methods to regulate the glucose level in blood. However, there are certain patients who refuse to even begin the insulin therapy. It is importance to identify patients’ perception and their acceptance of insulin therapy. Purpose of this study is to determine the perception of patients with Type 2 diabetes mellitus towards insulin therapy. and to identify the differences in perception based on the respondents’ age, gender, occupations and educational level. Methods: This is a quantitative descriptive study and was done in one of diabetic clinic in Kota Kinabalu, involving 50 patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and was not on insulin therapy. Participants were recruited via purposive convenience sampling. Questionnaires were used as research instrument. Results: Majority of the participants (80%) have negative perceptions towards insulin therapy and 84% refused insulin therapy because it would interfere with their working time and routine. Acceptance of insulin therapy among the female patients (Mean = 3.0) was better than the male patients (Mean = 2.8). Patients with high educational level were more positive in accepting insulin therapy (SM > 0.5). Age and occupation factor were categorized as the strong influential factors (SM < 0.5) in determining the patients’ perception towards insulin therapy. The significant mean (mean ± SD) for gender and educational factor showed more than 0.5 hence suggests positive perception in accepting insulin therapy. While, the significant mean (mean ± SD) for age and occupation factor showed less than 0.5 thus suggests negative perception in accepting insulin therapy. Conclusion: Participants have negative perceptions towards insulin therapy and these negative perceptions may possibly deter them from receiving insulin therapy. Appropriate health education and counselling is necessary to help them change their negative perceptions

Traditional Tropical Root Crop Technology: Some Interactions with Modern Science

    Get PDF
SUMMARY In the humid tropics, root crops such as cassava, yams, sweet and white potatoes and a variety of aroid root crops are widely preferred to grains as staple foods, as they are often more efficient food producers under these ecosystems. They have been estimated to provide the staple food of some 400?500 mn people. Little attention has been given by agricultural scientists to the post?harvest storage and processing problems of these crop products, but traditional societies dependent on them have evolved effective systems, with very limited resources. These societies are usually ecocentric rather than technocentric, and could benefit by interaction with modern technology so long as this neither dominates nor destroys the traditional systems.

Genomic Survey of E. coli From the Bladders of Women With and Without Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms

    Get PDF
Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are one of the most common human bacterial infections. While UTIs are commonly associated with colonization by Escherichia coli, members of this species also have been found within the bladder of individuals with no lower urinary tract symptoms (no LUTS), also known as asymptomatic bacteriuria. Prior studies have found that both uropathogenic E. coli (UPEC) strains and E. coli isolates that are not associated with UTIs encode for virulence factors. Thus, the reason(s) why E. coli sometimes causes UTI-like symptoms remain(s) elusive. In this study, the genomes of 66 E. coli isolates from adult female bladders were sequenced. These isolates were collected from four cohorts, including women: (1) without lower urinary tract symptoms, (2) overactive bladder symptoms, (3) urgency urinary incontinence, and (4) a clinical diagnosis of UTI. Comparative genomic analyses were conducted, including core and accessory genome analyses, virulence and motility gene analyses, and antibiotic resistance prediction and testing. We found that the genomic content of these 66 E. coli isolates does not correspond with the participant’s symptom status. We thus looked beyond the E. coli genomes to the composition of the entire urobiome and found that the presence of E. coli alone was not sufficient to distinguish between the urobiomes of individuals with UTI and those with no LUTS. Because E. coli presence, abundance, and genomic content appear to be weak predictors of UTI status, we hypothesize that UTI symptoms associated with detection of E. coli are more likely the result of urobiome composition
