    The Profile of Fracture in Patients Under 17 Years of Age at RSUD Dr Soetomo in the Period of 2013-2014

    Fractures in children are important problem nowadays. Governmental census lists people under 17 years old as the largest contributor to fracture cases in Indonesia. The rapid increase in motor vehicle use, a hallmark of economic growth in developing countries, led to sharp increase in road saturation and consequently, rise in traffic related injuries. Variables involved in pediatric fractures needs to be identified and mapped to provide basis for the creation of better preventive measures to reduce problem before it happens. Thus, the purpose of this research is to create a profile of fracture in patients under the age of 17 years' old at RSUD Dr Soetomo. The research is descriptive study which is performed by analyzing medical records in RSUD Dr Soetomo against the following: Age, Sex, Type of fracture, Cause of fracture, Time of fracture, Location of fracture, and Duration between admission and treatment. Data is then tabulated and converted into a bar graph for easier analysis. The research found that fractures in children most commonly occur at the 10-14 years' age group (41.8%), happens more frequently in boys than in girls (69.5%), is dominated by closed fractures over open fractures (75.9%), and is most often caused by traffic accidents (60.9%). Consequently, the location in which fractures are most prevalent is the β€œstreet” (63.1%). It is also found that the highest incidence of fractures cases happens within the 12.01-18.00 time-span (19.1%) and is treated within the first 8 hours of admission to the hospital (79.4%)

In such systems aim to schedule in accordance with determining the critical path of a project so that the project manager can carry out the project activities in accordance with the project schedule known critical path with Critical Path Method.The information system is made to produce a report that displays the scheduling of project activities on the critical path. Under the system of information created and a series of trials that have been done, the company can find information needed, especially concerning the determination of the Critical Path. So that the company can determine where an activity is preferred phase project work

    The problem of the research is how to analyze credit customers so as to reduce the risk of mistakes that could cause bad credit payment. BJVA has also been doing analysis credit before giving credit to its customers. But with the analysis, there were still 63% of transactions experienced delay in payment. To reduce the risk of mistakes that could cause bad credit payment, the scoring method will help analyze the customer's credit. Based on trials conducted, only 54 of the transactions can be used as the sample. This application can reduce the risk of bad credit up to 41%

    Singularly Perturbed Monotone Systems and an Application to Double Phosphorylation Cycles

    The theory of monotone dynamical systems has been found very useful in the modeling of some gene, protein, and signaling networks. In monotone systems, every net feedback loop is positive. On the other hand, negative feedback loops are important features of many systems, since they are required for adaptation and precision. This paper shows that, provided that these negative loops act at a comparatively fast time scale, the main dynamical property of (strongly) monotone systems, convergence to steady states, is still valid.     A Characterization of Scale Invariant Responses in Enzymatic Networks

    An ubiquitous property of biological sensory systems is adaptation: a step increase in stimulus triggers an initial change in a biochemical or physiological response, followed by a more gradual relaxation toward a basal, pre-stimulus level. Adaptation helps maintain essential variables within acceptable bounds and allows organisms to readjust themselves to an optimum and non-saturating sensitivity range when faced with a prolonged change in their environment. Recently, it was shown theoretically and experimentally that many adapting systems, both at the organism and single-cell level, enjoy a remarkable additional feature: scale invariance, meaning that the initial, transient behavior remains (approximately) the same even when the background signal level is scaled. In this work, we set out to investigate under what conditions a broadly used model of biochemical enzymatic networks will exhibit scale-invariant behavior. An exhaustive computational study led us to discover a new property of surprising simplicity and generality, uniform linearizations with fast output (ULFO), whose validity we show is both necessary and sufficient for scale invariance of enzymatic networks. Based on this study, we go on to develop a mathematical explanation of how ULFO results in scale invariance. Our work provides a surprisingly consistent, simple, and general framework for understanding this phenomenon, and results in concrete experimental predictions

    The role of aerodynamic resistance in thermal remote sensing-based evapotranspiration models

    &amp;lt;p&amp;gt;&amp;amp;#8216;Aerodynamic resistance&amp;amp;#8217; (hereafter r&amp;lt;sub&amp;gt;a&amp;lt;/sub&amp;gt;) is a preeminent variable in the modelling of evapotranspiration (ET), and its accurate quantification plays a critical role in determining the performance and consistency of thermal remote sensing-based surface energy balance (SEB) models for estimating ET at local to regional scales. Atmospheric stability links r&amp;lt;sub&amp;gt;a&amp;lt;/sub&amp;gt; with land surface temperature (LST) and the representation of their interactions in the SEB models determines the accuracy of ET estimates.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The present study investigates the influence of r&amp;lt;sub&amp;gt;a&amp;lt;/sub&amp;gt; and its relation to LST uncertainties on the performance of three structurally different SEB models by combining nine OzFlux eddy covariance datasets from 2011 to 2019 from sites of different aridity in Australia with MODIS Terra and Aqua LST and leaf area index (LAI) products. Simulations of the latent heat flux (LE, energy equivalent of ET in W/m&amp;lt;sup&amp;gt;2&amp;lt;/sup&amp;gt;) from the SPARSE (Soil Plant Atmosphere and Remote Sensing Evapotranspiration), SEBS (Surface Energy Balance System) and STIC (Surface Temperature Initiated Closure) models forced with MODIS LST, LAI, and in-situ meteorological datasets were evaluated using observed flux data across water-limited (semi-arid and arid) and radiation-limited (mesic) ecosystems.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Our results revealed that the three models tend to overestimate instantaneous LE in the water-limited shrubland, woodland and grassland ecosystems by up to 60% on average, which was caused by an underestimation of the sensible heat flux (H). LE overestimation was associated with discrepancies in r&amp;lt;sub&amp;gt;a&amp;lt;/sub&amp;gt; retrievals under conditions of high atmospheric instability, during which errors in LST (expressed as the difference between MODIS LST and in-situ LST) apparently played a minor role. On the other hand, a positive bias in LST coincides with low r&amp;lt;sub&amp;gt;a&amp;lt;/sub&amp;gt; and causes slight underestimation of LE at the water-limited sites. The impact of r&amp;lt;sub&amp;gt;a&amp;lt;/sub&amp;gt; on the LE residual error was found to be of the same magnitude as the influence of errors in LST in the semi-arid ecosystems as indicated by variable importance in projection (VIP) coefficients from partial least squares regression above unity. In contrast, our results for mesic forest ecosystems indicated minor dependency on r&amp;lt;sub&amp;gt;a&amp;lt;/sub&amp;gt; for modelling LE (VIP&amp;lt;0.4), which was due to a higher roughness length and lower LST resulting in dominance of mechanically generated turbulence, thereby diminishing the importance of atmospheric stability in the determination of r&amp;lt;sub&amp;gt;a&amp;lt;/sub&amp;gt;.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;</jats:p

    CpG-island methylation study of liver fluke-related cholangiocarcinoma

    Background: Genetic changes have been widely reported in association with cholangiocarcinoma (CCA), while epigenetic changes are poorly characterised. We aimed to further evaluate CpG-island hypermethylation in CCA at candidate loci, which may have potential as diagnostic or prognostic biomarkers. Methods: We analysed methylation of 26 CpG-islands in 102 liver fluke related-CCA and 29 adjacent normal samples using methylation-specific PCR (MSP). Methylation of interest loci was confirmed using pyrosequencing and/or combined bisulfite restriction analysis, and protein expression by immunohistochemistry. Results: A number of CpG-islands (OPCML, SFRP1, HIC1, PTEN and DcR1) showed frequency of hypermethylation in >28% of CCA, but not adjacent normal tissues. The results showed that 91% of CCA were methylated in at least one CpG-island. The OPCML was the most frequently methylated locus (72.5%) and was more frequently methylated in less differentiated CCA. Patients with methylated DcR1 had significantly longer overall survival (Median; 41.7 vs 21.7 weeks, P=0.027). Low-protein expression was found in >70% of CCA with methylation of OPCML or DcR1. Conclusion: Aberrant hypermethylation of certain loci is a common event in liver fluke-related CCA and may potentially contribute to cholangiocarcinogenesis. The OPCML and DcR1 might serve as methylation biomarkers in CCA that can be readily examined by MSP

    Mutations of PIK3CA in gastric adenocarcinoma

    BACKGROUND: Activation of the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K) through mutational inactivation of PTEN tumour suppressor gene is common in diverse cancer types, but rarely reported in gastric cancer. Recently, mutations in PIK3CA, which encodes the p110Ξ± catalytic subunit of PI3K, have been identified in various human cancers, including 3 of 12 gastric cancers. Eighty percent of these reported mutations clustered within 2 regions involving the helical and kinase domains. In vitro study on one of the "hot-spot" mutants has demonstrated it as an activating mutation. METHODS: Based on these data, we initiated PIK3CA mutation screening in 94 human gastric cancers by direct sequencing of the gene regions in which 80% of all the known PIK3CA mutations were found. We also examined PIK3CA expression level by extracting data from the previous large-scale gene expression profiling study. Using Significance Analysis of Microarrays (SAM), we further searched for genes that show correlating expression with PIK3CA. RESULTS: We have identified PIK3CA mutations in 4 cases (4.3%), all involving the previously reported hotspots. Among these 4 cases, 3 tumours demonstrated microsatellite instability and 2 tumours harboured concurrent KRAS mutation. Data extracted from microarray studies showed an increased expression of PIK3CA in gastric cancers when compared with the non-neoplastic gastric mucosae (p < 0.001). SAM further identified 2910 genes whose expression levels were positively associated with that of PIK3CA. CONCLUSION: Our data suggested that activation of the PI3K signalling pathway in gastric cancer may be achieved through up-regulation or mutation of PIK3CA, in which the latter may be a consequence of mismatch repair deficiency
