    Effects of Organizational Factors on Knowledge Sharing: A Systematic Review of Empirical Studies

    In organizations, knowledge sharing is a major source of innovation, performance, success, and goal achievement. This review-based study aims to extract the determinants of knowledge sharing from previously conducted studies. It also explores the organizational factors that have been most emphasized in studies on knowledge sharing. Following inclusion and exclusion criteria, fifty-four studies were selected for review and analysis to achieve the study objectives. Organizational culture, organizational support, organizational commitment, and organizational rewards are identified as highly important factors, while relationships, organizational justice, organizational trust, organizational leadership, and organizational climate are found to be very important factors. Additionally, some organizational factors are identified as quite important, somewhat important, and less important or ignored factors in the realm of knowledge sharing. Iran emerges as a productive country for producing research on knowledge sharing, with staff members/employees being a prolific population, and academia being a prolific discipline/site. This study will provide guidance to researchers on lesser-explored or ignored organizational variables to consider in their research on knowledge sharing

    Mapping the Metadata challenges in Libraries: A systematic review

    Background. In the information and knowledge world, libraries always played their important role and found as early adopters of new techniques and technologies for dissemination of information. Purpose. If we understand the metadata as a researcher’s perspective, it is exploratory in its nature which provides guidance to the further data which is explanatory. There are many metadata challenges which affect the execution and accessibility of relevant data. These challenges must be recognized at one place so that LIS professionals having interest in metadata could be able to understand these challenges and hurdles concerning with libraries. So, this this study is being conducted to find out the challenges of metadata and bring these challenges synthetically from scattered literature for the readers. Design/methodology/approach. To compete this study, a systematic literature review approach has been followed. Thirteen paper are selected to find out the challenges faced by the libraries concerning with the metadata. Findings. In this systematic review 85 challenges were found from the scholarly published literature which are categorized into 19 categories according to their nature and likeliness. Further, general challenges and project based challenges are presented separately. Practical implications. Through this study scattered challenges of metadata faced by the libraries are grouped together to strengthen the lacking information. This paper will add knowledge in the existing literature in form of comprehensiveness

    ANALYSIS OF URDU LANGUAGE COLLECTION IN UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES OF LAHORE, PAKISTAN

    Mother language and national language play pivotal role in the educational developments of the nations. Much importance is being awarded for the promotion of these languages all over the world as well as inPakistan. National languages are considered as official languages in many of the countries. In this regard recently the Government of Pakistan and courts ruled out the implementation of Urdu as official language. Quantitative research method followed by survey was opted for the completion of this study. Two separate questionnaires were used to get the relevant data from the respondents (Librarians and Students). This study explored library collection (including Urdu language collection) which is in total 1299384 books, 497 journals, 76 magazines, 89 newspapers, 34504 thesis/ dissertations/ projects, 13211 audio/ video (CDs/DVDs) and 18000 other types of collections available cumulatively in the public sector university libraries of the Lahore and also explored that majority of public sector libraries in Lahore have collection in Urdu language on various subjects but a very little in numbers. Change of curricula in English medium; lack of enough space in libraries and availability of similar information in other languages are pointed out as major hurdle for acquisition of the material in Urdu language. Regarding users’ perception it was revealed that they consider the books in Urdu language as more useful for the better understanding of concepts. Regarding satisfaction the users it is found they are satisfied with the availability of collection in Urdu language in their university libraries. The majority of respondents read books in Urdu language for leisure reading while books in English language for their course work

    IMPACT OF WORKPLACE ENVIRONMENT ON PERFORMANCE IN UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES OF LAHORE, PAKISTAN

    Goals of this study were to know the effect of library’s work environment for job performance of librarians and existence of any relationship between work environment and job performance of librarians. A quantitative study design was carried out to explore phenomenon through the librarian’s perceptions, delights and choices about their administrative center surroundings. Survey method was used in this study. The target population of this study was Librarians of HEC recognized Public and Private Universities of Lahore City. The structured questionnaire was used for data collection from respondents. There had been a hundred and twenty questionnaires dispensed among librarians, the researcher became succeeded in receiving ninety-six questionnaires from members. The reaction rate was 80 percent. Descriptive statistics were utilized for description of information such as frequencies, mean scores and standard deviation. Regression analysis has been performed to measure the impact of workplace environment on the job performance. Findings of the study show that there is the shortage of calm environment to the employees. Job descriptions are not clearly designed. No proper training opportunities are provided to the workers. Employees are not properly motivated. Findings of the study may prove useful in providing a congenial environment to the employees so that performance may be improved

    Are Medical Students Information Literate? investigation of skills through a cross sectional survey

    Abstract Introduction: Information literacy (IL) has great importance for medical students to make them capable of organizing and using critically accurate information from reliable sources. As the medical profession demands critical and lifelong learners due to its serious and sensitive nature, this study aims to examine the IL skills of undergraduate MBBS students of Shaikh Zayed Medical Complex (SZMC), Lahore, Pakistan. Methods: A contextual structured questionnaire, based on IL standards of Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) for higher education, was adapted to collect data. From total population of 466 enrolled students, through convenient sampling, 211 medical students enrolled in five years of MBBS program were approached for this purpose. Results: Findings revealed that majority of the respondents were found capable of determining the nature and extent of required information, were able to analyze and evaluate information and its sources alongside the understanding with ethical and legal use and communication of information produced. However, it was found that respondents scored low in the abilities of using ICTs, locating digital information by formulating advance queries, using reference management tools and information creation and presentation. Implication: The results highlight the importance of information literacy for medical profession, the current medical education curriculum and syllabi should be revised and integrated with advance IL instructions to produce future medical professionals as life-long learners. The findings also pointed out extensive role of medical library professionals, faculty and medical universities to develop updated and targeted IL instruction programs and training sessions

    Measuring the Awareness and Usage Level of the Libraries by Law Students of Law Colleges of Lahore, Pakistan

    In any society and institution the libraries play an important role in nation building and to create knowledgeable society. Law students during their whole life try to read and locate the relevant references related to their cases. Therefore, they are considered the information literate and able to locate the relevant information. During the studies, libraries and their professional usage make the law students able to locate their needed information from anywhere using their skills and abilities acquired during the studies. This study is conducted by following the quantitative research method and the population of the study was law students. Results reflect that majority of law students are aware of the available resources within their institutional libraries and they possess the skills to locate their needed information. Moreover, their purpose to the visit the libraries is the study purposes and they have basic level information needs. They also use digital resources and able to search the resources with good skills. This study will inform about the information behaviors of the law students

    Users’ Perceptions and Expectations of Quality Services in Libraries of Punjab Group of Colleges, Lahore

    This research is an attempt to investigate the gap between perceptions and expectations of library users regarding the quality services of college libraries. To measure the quality of Punjab Group of Colleges libraries from students’ perceptions and expectations, the survey method was used. The population consisted on the students of 14 Punjab Group of Colleges of Lahore. There were about 100,000 students that were enrolled in Punjab Group of Colleges. The students of intermediate, bachelors and masters were participants of the study. The convenient sampling technique was used for the selection of participants. A sample size of 383 was drawn from the total population. SERVQUAL instrument was utilized for measurement of service quality through customers’ perceptions and expectations. The instrument of the survey was distributed among respondents with the permission of Punjab Group of Colleges, Lahore for data collection. There were 383 questionnaires that were distributed among students. 304 duly filled questionnaires were received back from the participants. The response rate was 79.37%. Gathered data were analyzed by the researchers using SPSS. Results of the study show that respondents have very high expectations regarding quality library services. The overall mean perception score remained low as compared to expectations. The difference between expectations and perceptions showed on average the low service quality of college libraries. The overall results showed that the gap between users\u27 expectations and perceptions is from 0 to -1. The gap indicates that respondents have a positive view of the library staff\u27s courteous and caring attitude. They are also satisfied with the staff\u27s ability to provide services at the promised time and performing services immediately. The findings of the study suggest that a congenial atmosphere should be provided in libraries to enhance the good image of the libraries among the users
