    A multimodal cell census and atlas of the mammalian primary motor cortex

    ABSTRACT We report the generation of a multimodal cell census and atlas of the mammalian primary motor cortex (MOp or M1) as the initial product of the BRAIN Initiative Cell Census Network (BICCN). This was achieved by coordinated large-scale analyses of single-cell transcriptomes, chromatin accessibility, DNA methylomes, spatially resolved single-cell transcriptomes, morphological and electrophysiological properties, and cellular resolution input-output mapping, integrated through cross-modal computational analysis. Together, our results advance the collective knowledge and understanding of brain cell type organization: First, our study reveals a unified molecular genetic landscape of cortical cell types that congruently integrates their transcriptome, open chromatin and DNA methylation maps. Second, cross-species analysis achieves a unified taxonomy of transcriptomic types and their hierarchical organization that are conserved from mouse to marmoset and human. Third, cross-modal analysis provides compelling evidence for the epigenomic, transcriptomic, and gene regulatory basis of neuronal phenotypes such as their physiological and anatomical properties, demonstrating the biological validity and genomic underpinning of neuron types and subtypes. Fourth, in situ single-cell transcriptomics provides a spatially-resolved cell type atlas of the motor cortex. Fifth, integrated transcriptomic, epigenomic and anatomical analyses reveal the correspondence between neural circuits and transcriptomic cell types. We further present an extensive genetic toolset for targeting and fate mapping glutamatergic projection neuron types toward linking their developmental trajectory to their circuit function. Together, our results establish a unified and mechanistic framework of neuronal cell type organization that integrates multi-layered molecular genetic and spatial information with multi-faceted phenotypic properties

    Fuel flowrate control system and fuel thermal management are very important for aeroengine and the overall aircraft, and it has been researched for several decades. This survey paper makes a comprehensive and systematic overview on the exiting fuel flowrate regulation methods, thermal load of fuel metering units, fuel-based thermal management, and the fuel tank’s thermal management topology network with drain and recirculation. This paper firstly reviews the mechanism, technical advantages, and technical challenges of the fuel metering unit with flowrate control valve and constant pressure difference valve compensator, flowrate control valve and variable displacement pump-based pressure difference compensator, and motor-based flowrate regulation. Then, the technical characteristics of above fuel flowrate control methods related to thermal management are discussed and compared. Meanwhile, the behaviors of recirculated fuel flow within single tank system and dual tank system are explored. Thirdly, the paper discusses the future directions of fuel flowrate control and thermal management. The survey is significant to the fuel flowrate control and fuel thermal management of the aircraft

    Temperature Dynamic Characteristics Analysis and Thermal Load Dissipation Assessment for Airliner Hydraulic System in a Full Flight Mission Profile

    This paper deals with the modeling of the thermal load and the simulation of thermal dynamic characteristics for the hydraulic system of a large airliner in a full mission profile. Firstly, the formation mechanism of the thermal load in the hydraulic system is analyzed, and thermal dynamic modeling is conducted of the hydraulic components of an hydraulic system with an immersed heat exchanger employing the lumped parameter thermal node method and oil temperature and power loss of each key node within the hydraulic system within a full mission profile. Then, a thermal dynamic simulation model based on MATLAB/Simulink is established, and the temperatures at the nodes of different components and the absorptive capacity of the fuel heat sink in the thermal management module are calculated. The simulation results show that the thermal management scheme of the heat exchanger, located in the return oil pipeline of the hydraulic piston pump housing and immersed in the central fuel tank, can dissipate the thermal load of the system. This work is of important significance for temperature analysis and thermal load dissipation of the airliner hydraulic system

    In this paper, a solution method for the temperature distribution of rectangular test specimen with a high-speed heat air-flow passing through is proposed based on the heat transfer theory and numerical calculation, and the feasibility of temperature prediction method is validated. Firstly, the partial differential equations to describe the average temperature in the section of the hot air-flow and the specimen are established and the solving method using MATLAB solver is proposed. Then, based on heat transfer conduction equation and the average temperature, the temperature distribution at different point in each section is calculated. The comparison between numerical computation and experiment shows that two results are in good agreement, which verifies the correctness of the presented prediction method of the temperature distribution of the specimen

    A new algorithm of global tightly-coupled transient heat transfer based on quasi-steady flow to the conjugate heat transfer problem

    Concerning the specific demand on solving the long-term conjugate heat transfer (CHT) problem, a new algorithm of the global tightly-coupled transient heat transfer based on the quasi-steady flow field is further put forward. Compared to the traditional loosely-coupled algorithm, the computational efficiency is further improved with the greatly reduced update frequency of the flow field, and moreover the update step of the flow field can be reasonably determined by using the engineering empirical formula of the Nusselt number based on the changes of the inlet and outlet boundary conditions. Taking a duct heated by inner forced air flow heating process as an example, the comparing results to the tightly-coupled transient calculation by Fluent software shows that the new algorithm can significantly improve the computational efficiency with a reasonable accuracy on the transient temperature distribution, such as the computing time is reduced to 22.8% and 40% while the duct wall temperature deviation are 7% and 5% respectively using two flow update time step of 100 s and 50 s on the variable inlet-flow rate conditions

    Parameter-Matching Algorithm and Optimization of Integrated Thermal Management System of Aircraft

    The integrated thermal management system of aircraft is essential to maintain a suitable environment for the cabin crew and devices. The system is composed of the air-cycle refrigeration subsystem, the vapor-compression refrigeration subsystem, the liquid-cooling subsystem and the fuel-cycle subsystem, which are coupled with each other through heat exchangers. Due to the complex structure and large number of components in the system, it is necessary to design a corresponding parameter-matching algorithm for its special structure and to select the appropriate optimization design method. In this paper, the structure of an integrated thermal management system is analyzed in depth. A hierarchical matching algorithm of system parameters was designed and realized. Meanwhile, a sensitivity analysis of the system was performed, where key parameters were selected. Besides, a variety of optimization algorithms was used to optimize the design calculations. The results show that the particle swarm optimization and genetic algorithm could effectively find the global optimal solution when taking the fuel penalty as the objective function. Furthermore, the particle swarm optimization method took less time

    Numerical Study of the Influence of Coupling Interface Emissivity on Aerogel Metal Thermal Protection Performance

    For aerogels in metal thermal protection system (MTPS), radiative heat transfer will participate in the thermal transport process. Therefore, the influence of the emissivity of the coupling interface between metal and aerogels on thermal insulation performance is considered an important research focus. In this paper, CFD numerical simulation is performed to study the influence of emissivity on the performance with different extinction coefficients at different boundary temperatures. The finite volume method and the discrete ordinate method are used to solve the govern equations. The results show that when the boundary temperatures are 600 K and 2100 K, the extinction coefficient is 50 m−1, and the reduction percentage of the effective thermal conductivity with an emissivity of 0.2 can be up to 47.5% and 69.8%, compared to the system with an emissivity of 1. Thus, the reduction in emissivity has a good effect on the thermal insulation performance of the MTPS at a higher boundary temperature for materials with small extinction coefficients
