New method for determination of temperature in spallation reactions

    Get PDF
We propose a new method for determination of temperature in spallation events. It is shown that temperature can be determined by applying the friction model of energy dissipation in participant-spectator model of a spallation process. First order estimate of temperature dependence of the participant zone on reaction Q-value is obtained from the Fermi gas model considerations. The heat diffusion process is also discussed

An above-barrier narrow resonance in F-15

Intense and purified radioactive beam of post-accelerated O-14 was used to study the low-lying states in the unbound F-15 nucleus. Exploiting resonant elastic scattering in inverse kinematics with a thick target, the second excited state, a resonance at E-R = 4.757(6)(10) MeV with a width of Gamma = 36(5)(14) keV was measured for the first time with high precision. The structure of this narrow above-barrier state in a nucleus located two neutrons beyond the proton drip line was investigated using the Gamow Shell Model in the coupled channel representation with a C-12 core and three valence protons. It is found that it is an almost pure wave function of two quasi-bound protons in the 2s(1/2) shell. (C) 2016 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V

Some optical properties of the spiral inflector

This paper compares some optical properties of different spiral inflectors using the program CASINO. The electric field distribution in the inflectors has been numerically calculated from an electric potential map produced by the program RELAX3D. The magnetic field is assumed to be constant. We have also made an effort to minimize the inflector fringe field using the RELAX3D program. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved

Numerical solutions of differential equations of an ionization chamber: plane-parallel and spherical geometry

    No full text
A system of reduced differential equations generally valid for plane-parallel, cylindrical and spherical ionization chambers, which is appropriate for numerical solution, has been derived. The system has been solved numerically for plane-parallel and spherical ionization chambers filled with air. The comparison of the calculated results of Armstrong and Tate, for plane-parallel ionization chambers, and Sprinkle and Tate, for spherical ionization chambers, with the present calculations has shown a good agreement. The calculated values for ionization chambers filled with CO2 were also in good agreement with the experimental data of Moriuchi et al

Energy loss straggling of low energy alpha particles in a medium composed of polyatomic and diatomic molecules

The results of the measurement of the energy straggling of low energy alpha particles in the polyatomic and diatomic molecule media are reported. A general analytical formula for straggling widths of light ions, obtained by solving Symons equation for the second and third order central moments of the straggling distributions in non-relativistic approximation, has shown remarkably good agreement with experimental data at energy losses less than 70% of the initial projectile energies

PRISMA spectrometer EVR spectra and collection efficiencies in gas-filled mode

In order to study nuclear fusion reaction, the heavy-ion magnetic spectrometer PRISMA installed at INFN Legnaro is planned to be modified to work in Gas-Filled Mode. For that purpose, the possible response of the spectrometer will be examined in Rutherford scattering experiments which simulate the fusion reaction products. predictions for the evaporation residue (EVR) position spectra and collection efficiencies, as well as the respective spectrometer set ups, as determined using the algorithm of ANAMARI code [1], are presented.6th International Conference of the Balkan-Physical-Union, Aug 22-26, 2006, Istanbul, Turke

Numerical solutions of differential equations of a cylindrical ionization chamber

    No full text
The differential equations of the cylindrical ionization chamber filled with air have been solved numerically for different ratios of the outer and inner electrode for both polarities of the voltage supply. The obtained distributions of the electric field strength inside the chamber confirm the analysis of Thomson and Thomson and the calculations made by Mie. The calculated collection efficiencies are in good agreement with the results of the calculation of Sprinkle and Tate, and with the experimental data of Moriuchi et al
