Hy-DeFake: Hypergraph Neural Networks for Detecting Fake News in Online Social Networks

Nowadays social media is the primary platform for people to obtain news and share information. Combating online fake news has become an urgent task to reduce the damage it causes to society. Existing methods typically improve their fake news detection performances by utilizing textual auxiliary information (such as relevant retweets and comments) or simple structural information (i.e., graph construction). However, these methods face two challenges. First, an increasing number of users tend to directly forward the source news without adding comments, resulting in a lack of textual auxiliary information. Second, simple graphs are unable to extract complex relations beyond pairwise association in a social context. Given that real-world social networks are intricate and involve high-order relations, we argue that exploring beyond pairwise relations between news and users is crucial for fake news detection. Therefore, we propose constructing an attributed hypergraph to represent non-textual and high-order relations for user participation in news spreading. We also introduce a hypergraph neural network-based method called Hy-DeFake to overcome the challenges. Our proposed method captures semantic information from news content, credibility information from involved users, and high-order correlations between news and users to learn distinctive embeddings for fake news detection. The superiority of Hy-DeFake is demonstrated through experiments conducted on four widely-used datasets, and it is compared against six baselines using four evaluation metrics

Multiple male and female reproductive strategies and the presence of a polyandric mating system in the termite Reticulitermes labralis (Isoptera:Rhinotermitidae)

Reproductive systems of termite colonies may involve the number of individuals in the reproductive caste and the copulatory selectivity of reproductive individuals (i.e., polyandry or polygamy), both of which directly impact the fertility and genetic diversity of the colony. Polygamy is widespread in the lower termites, whereas polyandry appears to be mostly absent in termites. In this paper, the differentiation of male and female neotenics were observed in orphaned experimental colonies of the subterranean termite Reticulitermes labralis. The artificial orphaned colonies began to produce neotenics a week after colony establishing, with more neotenics appearing in the same group over time. Finally, each experimental group reserved multi-neotenics that consisted of male and female neotenic individuals. Our results demonstrated that these neotenic individuals retained in the colony participated in reproduction. A genetic analysis at four microsatellite loci showed that in addition to the conspicuous morphologically male reproductives, there were inconspicuous males or workers that had copulated with the females in the orphaned colony. Multiple male and female reproductive individuals existed together in a single colony, and one female neotenic could mate with several male reproductives in a short time. Thus, multiple male and female reproductive systems and a polyandric mating system are present in R. labralis

ANALYSIS OF GRIP FORCE DURING GOLF PUTTING AT DIFFERENT DISTANCES - PILOT STUDY

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study was to explore the grip force performance at different distances during putting stroke. Four golfers (2 professionals and 2 novices) as accurately as possible executed a putt to reach 1, 2 and 3 m target distance, respectively. Putting motions were recorded by JVC video and grip pressure measurement sensor placed on two hands, allowing the force output of all regions of the hands to be measured. The grip force trace among 1 to 3 m distance was repeatable across putting strokes for each golfer but between golfers was inconsistent. Dominant forces appear to arise primarily from the left hand. In this study, the grip force and force distribution were preliminarily discovered during putting stroke at different distances. This research has suggested a potentially important influence of grip force on the golf putting performance in long distance

Background: Repeatedly hospitalized patients with acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD) are often exposed to more antibiotics, but the distribution of pathogenic bacteria in these patients is poorly understood. The objectives of this study were to analyze the distribution of pathogenic bacteria and the risk factors associated with multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria infection in early re-admission patients with AECOPD.Methods: We retrospectively reviewed charts for patients with AECOPD admitted to our hospital between January 2011 and november 2012. The early re-admission group and non-early readmission group were determined by whether patients were readmitted within 31 days after discharge. Detection of potentially pathogenic microorganisms (PPMs) and MDR bacteria were analyzed. Logistic regression analysis was performed to identify independent risk factors for MDR bacteria infection. Results: PPMs were isolated from 230 (32.0%) cases of respiratory tract specimens; MDR bacteria accounted for 24.7% (57/230). Pseudomonas aeruginosa (43.7%), Klebsiella pneumoniae (15.6%), and Acinetobacter baumannii (12.5%) were the top three PPMs in the early readmission group, while the top three PPMs in the non-early readmission group were K. pneumoniae (23.7%), P. aeruginosa (21.2%), and Streptococcus pneumoniae (17.1%). Multivariate analysis showed that use of antibiotics within 2 weeks (odds ratio [OR] 8.259, 95% confidence interval [CI] 3.056-22.322, p = 0.000) was the independent risk factor for MDR bacteria infection. Conclusion: Non-fermentative Gram-negative bacilli (NFGNB) and enterobacteria were the predominant bacteria in early readmission patients with AECOPD. The detection rate of MDR bacteria was high which was related to the use of antibiotics within 2 weeks before admission in these patients. Keywords: AECOPD, re-admission, bacteria, multidrug-resistant (MDR), risk factors

Hierarchical Dense Correlation Distillation for Few-Shot Segmentation-Extended Abstract

Few-shot semantic segmentation (FSS) aims to form class-agnostic models segmenting unseen classes with only a handful of annotations. Previous methods limited to the semantic feature and prototype representation suffer from coarse segmentation granularity and train-set overfitting. In this work, we design Hierarchically Decoupled Matching Network (HDMNet) mining pixel-level support correlation based on the transformer architecture. The self-attention modules are used to assist in establishing hierarchical dense features, as a means to accomplish the cascade matching between query and support features. Moreover, we propose a matching module to reduce train-set overfitting and introduce correlation distillation leveraging semantic correspondence from coarse resolution to boost fine-grained segmentation. Our method performs decently in experiments. We achieve 50.0% mIoU on COCO dataset one-shot setting and 56.0% on five-shot segmentation, respectively. The code will be available on the project website. We hope our work can benefit broader industrial applications where novel classes with limited annotations are required to be decently identified.Comment: Accepted to CVPR 2023 VISION Workshop, Oral.      Introduction: C1q/TNF-related Protein-3 (CTRP3) is a novel adipokine with multiple effects such as lowering glucose levels, inhibiting glyconeogenesis in the liver, and increasing angiogenesis and anti-inflammation. But little is known about the effects of CTRP3 on insulin resistance in adipose tissue. This study aims to investigate the effects and mechanisms of CTRP3 on the insulin sensitivity of 3T3-L1 adipocytes.Material and methods: Insulin resistant 3T3-L1 adipocytes were induced by palmic acid cultivation. Such adipocytes were treated with recombinant CTRP3 protein at different concentrations (0, 10, 50, 1,250 ng/mL)for 12 hours, and at a concentration of 250 ng/mL for differing times (2, 6, 12, and 24h). Another group was pre-treated with wortmannin, the special inhibitor of phosphatidylinositol-4,5- bisphosphate 3-kinase (PI3K), for 20 minutes before the treatment with 250 ng/mL CTRP3. The glucose consumption, the glucose uptake, the expression and release of tumour necrosis factor α (TNF-α) and interleukin-6(IL-6) in supernatant, and the protein relative expression of PI3K and protein kinase B (PKB)(ser437) were detected. Results: Compared to the control group, glucose consumption in the CTRP3 intervention group at concentrations of 10, 50, 250, and 1,250 ng/mL was increased by 22.1%, 42.9%, 76.6% and 80.5% respectively (all P < 0.01); the glucose uptake was increased by 39.0%, 68.0%, 108.0% and 111.0% respectively (all P < 0.01); the content of TNF-α in the culture media of CTRP3 (10, 50, 250 ng/mL) intervention group was decreased by 7.6% (P > 0.05), 13.0% (P < 0.05) and 17.4% (P < 0.01) respectively; the content of IL-6 was decreased by 7.1%, 12.4% and 17.1% respectively (all P < 0.01); the protein relative expression of PI3K was increased by 0.63-, 1.00- and 1.36-fold respectively (all P < 0.01), and PKB(ser437) increased by 0.65-, 1.61- and 1.93-fold respectively (all P < 0.01); the mRNA relative expression of GLUT-4 was increased by 23.0%, 47.0% and 62.0% respectively (all P < 0.01). After the treatment with wortmannin, glucose consumption, glucose uptake, PI3K and PKB(ser437) protein relative expression, as well as GLUT-4 mRNA relative expression, was decreased by 53.2%, 44.7%, 43.4%, 56.1 and 30.9% respectively (all P < 0.01).Conclusions: CTRP3 could improve insulin sensitivity of insulin resistant 3T3-L1 adipocytes by decreasing inflammation and ameliorating insulin signalling transduction, indicating that CTRP3 may be a new target for the prevention and cure of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes. Quantum computation in silicon-vacancy centers based on nonadiabatic geometric gates protected by dynamical decoupling

Due to strong zero-phonon line emission, narrow inhomogeneous broadening, and stable optical transition frequencies, the quantum system consisting of negatively charged silicon-vacancy (SiV) centers in diamond is highly expected to develop universal quantum computation. We propose to implement quantum computation for the first time using SiV centers placed in a one-dimensional phononic waveguide, for which quantum gates are realized in a nonadiabatic geometric way and protected by dynamical decoupling (DD). The scheme has the feature of geometric quantum computation that is robust to control errors and the advantage of DD that is insensitive to environmental impact. Furthermore, the encoding of qubits in long-lifetime ground states of silicon-vacancy centers can reduce the effect of spontaneous emission. Numerical simulations demonstrate the practicability of the SiV center system for quantum computation and the robustness improvement of quantum gates by DD pulses. This scheme may provide a promising path toward high-fidelity geometric quantum computation in solid-state systems

Quasar candidate selection and photometric redshift estimation based on SDSS and UKIDSS data

We present a sample of 8498 quasars with both SDSS ugrizugriz optical and UKIDSS YJHKYJHK near-IR photometric data. With this sample, we obtain the median colour-z relations based on 7400 quasars with magnitude uncertainties less than 0.1mag in all bands. By analyzing the quasar colours, we propose an empirical criterion in the YKY-K vs. gzg-z colour-colour diagram to separate stars and quasars with redshift z<4z<4, and two other criteria for selecting high-z quasars. Using the SDSS-UKIDSS colour-z relations, we estimate the photometric redshifts of 8498 SDSS-UKIDSS quasars, and find that 85.0% of them are consistent with the spectroscopic redshifts within Δz<0.2|\Delta z|<0.2, which leads to a significant increase of the photometric redshift accuracy than that based on the SDSS colour-z relations only. We compare our colour selection criterion with a small UKIDSS/EDR quasar/star sample and a sample of 4671 variable sources in the SDSS Stripe 82 region with both SDSS and UKIDSS data, and find that they can be clearly divided into two classes (quasars and stars) by our criterion in the YKY-K vs. gzg-z plot. We select 3834 quasar candidates from the variable sources with g<20.5g<20.5 in Stripe 82, 826 of them being SDSS quasars and the rest without SDSS spectroscopy. We demonstrate that even at the same spectroscopy limit as SDSS, with our criterion we can at least partially recover the missing quasars with z2.7z\sim2.7 in SDSS. The SDSS identified quasars only take a small fraction (21.5%) of our quasar candidates selected from the variable sources in Stripe 82, indicating that a deeper spectroscopy is very promising in producing a larger sample of quasars than SDSS. The implications of our results to the future Chinese LAMOST quasar survey are also discussed.Comment: 13 pages, 13 figures, 2 tables, accepted for publication in MNRA
