The Robert-Musil-Literatur-Museum in Klagenfurt (Austria) is the responsable body for the so called “Klagenfurter Literaturkurs”. The literary Museum is run by the City of Klagenfurt, Division of Culture, since the year 1994 and shows since then steady exhibitons about the life and the work of the three Austrian writers Robert Musil - who was born in the so-called “Musil-House” in Klagenfurt®s Bahnhofstrasse, where the Museum is established Ingeborg Bachmann and Christine Lavant. The “Klagenfurter Literaturkurs” is a meeting for writers, who want to start a professi - onal literary career and who must not be older than 35 years. Participants for the Literaturkurs come from Germany, Switzerland and Austria. The literary meeting is held in the foreÞ eld of the “Ingeborg-Bachmann-Prize”, which is one of the most important literary Prizes for German speakting authors. The participants have the possibility to discuss their texts withe three well-known authors (“Tutors”). It is very important for the Robert-Musil- Literatur- Museum as an institution, that writers at the beginning of their career are confronted with a kind of “Dead poets society” - to quote the title of a Peter-Weir- Film from the year 1989. It gives a special kind of dynamism to the activities of a literary Museum. The Museum on the other hand has the possibility of positioning itself as a place of a lively debate not only about the literary works of the past but also of contemporary literature

Genomic investigations of unexplained acute hepatitis in children

Since its first identification in Scotland, over 1,000 cases of unexplained paediatric hepatitis in children have been reported worldwide, including 278 cases in the UK1. Here we report an investigation of 38 cases, 66 age-matched immunocompetent controls and 21 immunocompromised comparator participants, using a combination of genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic and immunohistochemical methods. We detected high levels of adeno-associated virus 2 (AAV2) DNA in the liver, blood, plasma or stool from 27 of 28 cases. We found low levels of adenovirus (HAdV) and human herpesvirus 6B (HHV-6B) in 23 of 31 and 16 of 23, respectively, of the cases tested. By contrast, AAV2 was infrequently detected and at low titre in the blood or the liver from control children with HAdV, even when profoundly immunosuppressed. AAV2, HAdV and HHV-6 phylogeny excluded the emergence of novel strains in cases. Histological analyses of explanted livers showed enrichment for T cells and B lineage cells. Proteomic comparison of liver tissue from cases and healthy controls identified increased expression of HLA class 2, immunoglobulin variable regions and complement proteins. HAdV and AAV2 proteins were not detected in the livers. Instead, we identified AAV2 DNA complexes reflecting both HAdV-mediated and HHV-6B-mediated replication. We hypothesize that high levels of abnormal AAV2 replication products aided by HAdV and, in severe cases, HHV-6B may have triggered immune-mediated hepatic disease in genetically and immunologically predisposed children

Both clerical and profane mens work is about masculinity and therefore inevitably affected by todays changes in society regarding manliness. The features of the prevailing traditional image of masculinity comprise regulating and controlling society. But the ongoing disintegration of this perception of manliness is taken a chance by men to abandon this model of masculinity and to heed their own feelings, needs and impulses instead and recognising that these are guidance enough for autonomous acting. The results of the research show that men in a period of upheaval are surely concerned about meeting the concepts of masculinity successfully and are in search of new male role models. By means of empirical social research for this thesis guidelines for mens work emerged which are marked by the effort to get into conversation with the target group, to sense their needs and mutually implement highly topical issues.eingereicht von Mag. Leukotriene Signaling as a Target in α-Synucleinopathies

Parkinson’s disease (PD) and dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) are two common types of α-synucleinopathies and represent a high unmet medical need. Despite diverging clinical manifestations, both neurodegenerative diseases share several facets of their complex pathophysiology. Apart from α-synuclein aggregation, an impairment of mitochondrial functions, defective protein clearance systems and excessive inflammatory responses are consistently observed in the brains of PD as well as DLB patients. Leukotrienes are lipid mediators of inflammatory signaling traditionally known for their role in asthma. However, recent research advances highlight a possible contribution of leukotrienes, along with their rate-limiting synthesis enzyme 5-lipoxygenase, in the pathogenesis of central nervous system disorders. This review provides an overview of in vitro as well as in vivo studies, in summary suggesting that dysregulated leukotriene signaling is involved in the pathological processes underlying PD and DLB. In addition, we discuss how the leukotriene signaling pathway could serve as a future drug target for the therapy of PD and DLB

In this doctoral thesis entitled „Causes of stress and coping with the impact of stress in rural styrian families” the application of a transactional stress scheme in agriculture is analised. The thesis shows stress patterns in various areas of agriculture. In addition the effectiveness of measures aimed to reduce stress is assessed. The thesis shows the physical and psychological impact of stress on people working in agriculture. In order to cross-examine the hypotheses, questionnaires, and critical stress assessment were applied. A total number of about 2,000 farmers were interviewed. 27 farmers took part in a blood testing research. The results illustrate that people working on modern farms are exposed to stress. Agriculture in general has gone through a transformation over the last years, which has brought a change from heavy physical stress towards psychological stress. Through questionnaires dealing with stress-recovery numerous highly significant correlations between stress and its psychological impacts have been drawn in the thesis. In addition, there is a clear correlation between stress and behavior of people working on farms. This doctoral thesis confirms the validity of the “transactional stress scheme” and shows ways of applying it in agricultural.eingereicht von Andreas StempflAbweichender Titel laut Übersetzung der Verfasserin/des VerfassersWien, Univ. fĂŒr Bodenkultur, Diss., 2012OeBB(VLID)193191
