    The flow field downstream of a hydraulic jump

    A control-volume analysis of a hydraulic jump is used to obtain the mean vorticity downstream of the jump as a function of the Froude number. To do this it is necessary to include the conservation of angular momentum. The mean vorticity increases from zero as the cube of Froude number minus one, and, in dimensionless form, approaches a constant at large Froude number. Digital particle imaging velocimetry was applied to travelling hydraulic jumps giving centre-plane velocity field images at a frequency of 15 Hz over a Froude number range of 2–6. The mean vorticity determined from these images confirms the control-volume prediction to within the accuracy of the experiment. The flow field measurements show that a strong shear layer is formed at the toe of the wave, and extends almost horizontally downstream, separating from the free surface at the toe.     The Effects of Hydrazine Monohydrate Surface Doping on Graphene

    In this project we investigate how the carrier concentration and scattering time of chemical vapor deposition (CVD) graphene samples are affected by the exposure of these samples to hydrazine monohydrate. We used both immersion techniques and vapor deposition techniques to surface dope our graphene samples. We use both Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and Hall effect measurements to investigate these effects.We find that after surface doping CVD graphene samples, the electron concentration greatly increases while the scattering time is nearly unaffected. We also find that this doping process with hydrazine monohydrate is reversible

    Documenting the decision structure in software development

    Current software development paradigms focus on the products of the development process. Much of the decision making process which produces these products is outside the scope of these paradigms. The Decision-Based Software Development (DBSD) paradigm views the design process as a series of interrelated decisions which involve the identification and articulation of problems, alternates, solutions and justifications. Decisions made by programmers and analysts are recorded in a project data base. Unresolved problems are also recorded and resources for their resolution are allocated by management according to the overall development strategy. This decision structure is linked to the products affected by the relevant decision and provides a process oriented view of the resulted system. Software maintenance uses this decision view of the system to understand the rationale behind the decisions affecting the part of the system to be modified. D-HyperCase, a prototype Decision-Based Hypermedia System is described and results of applying the DBSD approach during its development are presented

    Implications of the 2023 Flood on the Lower Diamond Fork River, UT

    The lower Diamond Fork River is located on publicly accessible land owned by the Utah Reclamation Mitigation and Conservation Commission and the United States Forest Service. It is located a 30 minute drive away from the Provo-Orem Metropolitan Area and the stream runs parallel to the Diamond Fork Road, giving anglers convenient access to several miles of publicly fishable stream. The focus of this study is the lower Diamond Fork River between US Highway 6 and the Diamond Fork Campground, UT (Figure 1)

    Attitudes, Attachment Styles, and Gender: Implications on Perceptions of Infidelity

    Understanding the impact infidelity has on individuals, couples, families, and societies has increasingly become a topic of interest over the last few decades. In recent years, scholars have sought to increase understanding of infidelity through investigating the relationship between infidelity and attachment theory. This research study examines the impact attitudes about infidelity, attachment styles, and gender have on the way in which individuals perceive infidelity. Data was gathered from 310 participants recruited from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and social media. Participants were 18 years of age and older and were, at the time of the study, either in a committed romantic relationship or had previously been in one. Results from a multiple linear regression, using stepwise selection, indicate that permissive sexual attitudes significantly predict permissive perceptions of infidelity. Results also indicated that anxious attachment significantly predicted less permissive perceptions of infidelity. These results provide marriage and family therapists with insight into important factors to attend to when treating infidelity

    A Precision Model Independent Determination of |Vub| from B -> pi e nu

    A precision method for determining |Vub| using the full range in q^2 of B-> pi \ell nu data is presented. At large q^2 the form factor is taken from unquenched lattice QCD, at q^2=0 we impose a model independent constraint obtained from B-> pi pi using the soft-collinear effective theory, and the shape is constrained using QCD dispersion relations. We find |Vub| =(3.54\pm 0.17\pm 0.44) x 10^{-3}. With 5% experimental error and 12% theory error, this is competitive with inclusive methods. Theory error is dominated by the input points, with negligible uncertainty from the dispersion relations.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure

    Constraint equations for heavy-to-light currents in SCET

    A complete basis for the next-to-next-to leading order heavy-to-light currents in the soft-collinear effective theory is constructed. Reparameterization invariance is imposed by deriving constraint equations. Their solutions give the set of allowed Dirac structures as well as relations between the Wilson coefficients of operators that appear at different orders in the power expansion. The completeness of reparameterization invariance constraints derived on a projected surface is investigated. We also discuss the universality of the ultrasoft Wilson line with boundary conditions.Comment: 35 page
