The Forgotten Politicians: Court Clerks
Although court clerks occupy a strategic position in county government, they have not been examined in detail. Their crucial role in the budgetary process, coupled with the vast panoply of duties assigned them, elevates their office to semi-sovereign status within the county. The state of Florida was chosen as a focus for an indepth study of the clerk\u27s office. The study revealed that despite the fact that clerks are well-educated, they are relatively unknowledgeable about modern technology and techniques to assist in the operation and management of their offices. This, coupled with the county court clerk\u27s conservative nature, accounts in part for why states have been victims of archaic and outdated court systems and procedures
Reliability of a Shuttle reaction timer
Reaction, movement, and task times refer to the times needed to initially respond to a stimulus, make the specific movement, and complete the entire task. This study evaluated the reliability of a simple reaction timer designed to mimic a Space Shuttle task (turning on an overhead switch)
The Separate Spheres of Women and Science
Through the 19th century ideology of separate spheres, Frankenstein shows how the exclusion of women from science is detrimental to science and destructive to society.https://scholarworks.sjsu.edu/frankenstein200_posters/1001/thumbnail.jp
Record High Ramping Rates in HTS Based Super-conducting Accelerator Magnet
We report results of the experimental test of the High Temperature
Superconductor based fast cycling prototype accelerator magnet capable to
operate up to about 300 Tesla per second field ramping rate with some 0.5 T
field in the magnet gap. The measured upper limit for the cryogenic cooling
power required to support magnet conductor operation at high ramping rates
indicates great potential for such types of magnets in rapid cycling
synchrotrons for neutrino research or muon acceleration. The test magnet
design, construction, and supporting cryogenic and power systems are briefly
described. The magnet power test results are discussed in terms of a possible
upgrade of this magnet design to 2 T field, a maximum feasible with superferric
magnet.Comment: 4 pages, 10 figures; presented at the 27th International Conference
