Thoracic electrical bioimpedance theory and clinical possibilities in perioperative medicine

    Get PDF
This article is a short review of thoracic electrical bioimpedance (TEB) theory and clinical capabilities. Cardiac output measurement is used primarily to guide therapy in complex, critically ill patients. Thoracic electrical bioimpedance is one of several noninvasive techniques that have been investigated to measure cardiac output and other hemodynamic parameters. Opinions in current literature continue to be conflicting as to the utility of thoracic electrical bioimpedance to that purpose. There is a limited number of good designed studies but they imply TEB is an accurate and reliable noninvasive method for determining cardiac output/cardiac index and it would be valuable for patients and circumstances in which intracardiac pressures and mixed venous blood samples are not necessary

The association of cervical pregnancy and gestational trophoblastic disease is extreme rare, but it is obvious that such combination is associated with devastating effects on future fertility. We present a case of the patient with cervical molar pregnancy, who was admitted due to hemorrhagic shock caused by profuse metrorrhagia at 7th gestational week. Slightly enlarged uterine corpus, with bulky cervix and normal adnexa were found on laparotomy. Total abdominal hysterectomy with the conservation of one ovary was performed. Pathohistological examination confirmed cervical molar pregnancy. In the case of an ectopic, molar or ectopic molar pregnancy, the early visit to gynecologist would give the opportunity to plan the treatment and to preserve the uterus for further pregnancies

Relationship between the kinetic parameters and morphology of electrochemically deposited lead

The processes of lead electrodeposition from electrolytes of various concentrations of sodium nitrate as the supporting electrolyte have been examined by chronoamperometry and by the scanning electron microscopic (SEM) analysis of deposits obtained in the potentiostatic regime of electrolysis. The good agreement between the diffusion coefficents determined by Cottrell equation and non-linear fitting method was observed. For the first time, the transition from the mixed ohmic-diffusion to the full diffusion control was defined from the analysis of Cottrell equation. The parameters, such as the number density of active sites and the nucleation rate constant, obtained by non-linear fitting method were discussed in accordance with the fact that lead belongs to the group of metals characterized by the high values of the exchange current density. The data obtained by the chronoamperometric analysis were succesfully correlated with morphologies of electrodeposited lead obtained in the different types of electrodeposition control

Sustainable development of the Belgrade energy system

Cities are the most important energy consumers of any country in all energy vector components. Nowadays, Belgrade as a cultural, educational, scientific, administrative, political, and business center of the region with its own structure of production, transportation, services, and urban system, represents significant consumer of different energy forms. Only useful and final energy is delivered to energy consuming sectors of a city. Simulation model MAED was used in this paper to estimate energy demand in city for a long time period. On the basis of energy demand forecast for three major energy consumers (sectors of household/service, industry, and transportation) until 2020, the sustainable development, scenarios of Belgrade energy system are developed (2005-2010, 2010-2015, 2015-2020). For each scenario, the energy systems of primary resources are determined so to satisfy the predicted differences in energy consumption for the mentioned time intervals until 2020. In this case different scenarios are evaluated. The evaluation of scenarios sustainability is obtained by method of multi-criteria analysis. Using energy indices for sustainable development, the following indices are taken into consideration for the assessment of scenario sustainability: economical, social, and environmental. The obtained results can be used by experts in decision-making process. (c) 2008 Elsevier Ltd. Specific approach for continuous air quality monitoring

    Get PDF
Rapid industry development as well as increase of traffic volume across the world have resulted in air quality becoming one of the most important factors of everyday life. Air quality monitoring is the necessary factor for proper decision making regarding air pollution. An integral part of such investigations is the measurement of wind characteristics, as the wind is the most influential factor in turbulent pollution diffusion into the atmosphere. The most of the air pollution originates from combustion processes, so it is important to make quantitative, as well as qualitative analysis, as the sources of pollution can be very distant. In this paper, specific methodology for continuous wind, temperature and air quality data acquisition is presented. Comparison of the measured results is given, as well as the detailed presentation of the characteristics of the acquisition software used

Freeze drying is relatively new process for drying fruit from frozen state. In distinction from classical drying, freeze drying make product with very little content of water, against maximal preservation of all nutritive matter in the product. These process is especially good for sensitive fruits at whom shall almost save typical flavor, color and vitamins. In this paper oversight of new raspberry products that can bee obtained by freeze drying process is given. Analysis of technological procedures for obtaining of whole freeze dried raspberry and freeze dried raspberry juice in powdered form is given. These technologies are relatively new in the world and with us still are not apply in industrial dimensions

    Get PDF
The purpose of thermal comfort is to speck the combinations of indoor space environment and personal factors that will produce thermal environment conditions acceptable to 80% or more of the occupants within a space. Naturally ventilated indoors has a very complex air movement, which depends on numerous variables such as: outdoor interaction, intensity of infiltration, the number of openings, the thermal inertia of walls, occupant behaviors, etc. The most important mechanism for naturally ventilated indoors is the intensity of infiltration and thermal buoyancy mechanism. In this study the objective was to determine indicators of thermal comfort for children, by the CFD model based on experimental measurements with modification on turbulent and radiant heat transfer mathematical model. The case study was selected on school children of 8 and 9 years in France Presern primary school in Belgrade. The purpose was to evaluate the relationships between the indoor environment and the subjective responses. Also there was analysis of infiltration and stack effect based on meteorological data on site. The main parameters that were investigated are: operative temperature, radiant temperature, concentration of CO2, and air velocity. The new correction of turbulence and radiative heat transfer models has been validated by comparison with experimental data using additional statistical indicators. It was found that both turbulence model correct and the new radiative model of nontransparent media have a significant influence on CFD data set accuracy

This study was done to discover any beneficial effect of a medicinal mushroom Agaricus brasiliensis extract on the honey bee. Firstly, a laboratory experiment was conducted on 640 bees reared in 32 singleuse plastic rearing cups. A. brasiliensis extract proved safe in all doses tested (50, 100 and 150 mg/kg/ day) irrespective of feeding mode (sugar syrup or candy). Secondly, a three-year field experiment was conducted on 26 colonies treated with a single dose of A. brasiliensis extract (100 mg/kg/day) added to syrup. Each year the colonies were treated once in autumn and twice in spring. The treatments significantly increased colony strength parameters: brood rearing improvement and adult population growth were noticed more often than the increase in honey production and pollen reserves. These positive effects were mainly observed in April. In conclusion, A. brasiliensis extract is safe for the bees and helps maintaining strong colonies, especially in spring.</p
