Do Church Planting Systems Help Church Planters? A Summary and Study of the System that Southern Baptists Use to Support Their Church Planters

    Get PDF
Does the presence of a church planting system assist in the growth of new churches? Anecdotal information has existed for years. It seemed to many that church planters did better when they were screened, had mentors, met with other planters, etc. However, there has been no large-scale study on the subject until now. This paper presents the results of a three-year of study of the Church Planting Process (CPP) used by the Home Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention

The Evolution of Church Growth, Church Health, and the Missional Church: An Overview of the Church Growth Movement from, and back to, Its Missional Roots

The American application of the Church Growth Movement has, in my estimation, moved away from McGavran’s original emphasis of mission. While still valuing the approach and learning much from it, I would like to share my personal journey out of mainstream Church Growth into a more missional approach

The State of Church Planting in the United States: Research Overview and Qualitative Study of Primary Church Planting Entities

    Get PDF
The launching of new Protestant churches in the United States, widely known as church planting, plays an increasing role in today\u27s ecclesiastical landscape. This article summarizes salient findings from existing literature (multiple church planting studies, 54 doctoral dissertations, 41 journal articles, and over 100 church planting books and manuals), giving particular attention to a 2007 study by Leadership Network, which itself involved fresh research among more than 200 church-planting churches, over 100 leaders from 40 denominations, 45 church planting networks, 84 organic church leaders, 12 nationally known experts, and 81 colleges and seminaries. The Leadership Network findings review the contributions and impact of four primary church-planting entities on the American churchplanting industry: denominations, church planting networks, church-planting churches, and house churches. The most important conclusions of the Leadership Network study report that around 68 percent of church plants still exist four years after having been started, and that the assessment, preparation, and coaching processes for the pastoral leader have a dramatic impact on both the well being of the planter and the vitality and survivability of the new church

Removing Transportation Barriers to Employment: Assessing Driver\u27s License and Vehicle Ownership Patterns of Low- Income Populations

For most single parents who are expected to work full-time under current welfare policies and who have children needing child care, use of a car is the most practical means of transportation. The difficulties of getting to the child care provider, then to work, back to the child care provider and home contribute to job retention problems, particularly for single parents lacking a family car or a valid driver\u27s license. This study examined the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT) driver\u27s license records for 719,320 Milwaukee County residents, analyzed 331,304 recent (1992-1996) suspensions and 125,717 revocations by type and number of actions, geocoded addresses for 491,118 Milwaukee County licensed residential vehicles, and matched driver\u27s license and vehicle registration records to determine car ownership patterns. The Milwaukee Public Schools census and U.S. census data were used to determine driver\u27s license and suspension rates for teenagers by zipcode, central city and suburban areas. This research work is part of a continuing effort to provide insights into the child care and transportation conundrum facing low-income families in Milwaukee County

Purchasing Power Profile: 35th and North

    Get PDF
To help identify the economic assets of central city neighborhoods and to further employment opportunities for city residents the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Employment and Training Institute prepared state-of-the-art purchasing power estimates of consumer expenditures and retail sales leakage/surplus by neighborhood. The ETI drill downs were designed to help determine the diversity of the workforce and to further economic development for underserved communities and for neighborhoods with concentrations of residents of color. This presentation describes the purchasing power assets within three miles of 35th Street and North Avenue, a predominantly African American community on Milwaukee’s north side

Homogeneous nucleation rates of nitric acid dihydrate (NAD) at simulated stratospheric conditions ? Part II: Modelling

International audienceActivation energies ?Gact for the nucleation of nitric acid dihydrate (NAD) in supercooled binary HNO3/H2O solution droplets were calculated from volume-based nucleation rate measurements using the AIDA (Aerosol Interactions and Dynamics in the Atmosphere) aerosol chamber of Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe. The experimental conditions covered temperatures T between 192 K and 197 K, NAD saturation ratios SNAD between 7 and 10, and nitric acid molar fractions of the nucleating sub-micron sized droplets between 0.26 and 0.28. Based on classical nucleation theory, a new parameterisation ?Gact=AĂ—(T lnSNAD)-2+B is fitted to our experimetnal data with A=2.5Ă—106 kcal K2 mol-1 and B=11.2?0.1(T?192) kcal mol-1. A and B were chosen to also achieve good agreement with literature data of ?Gact. The parameter A implies a constant interfacial tension ?sl=51 cal mol-1 cm-2 between the growing NAD germ and the supercooled solution. A slight temperature dependence of the diffusion activation energy is represented by the parameter B. Investigations with a detailed microphysical process model showed that literature formulations of volume-based (Salcedo et al., 2001) and surface-based (Tabazadeh et al., 2002) nucleation rates significantly overestimate NAD formation rates when applied to the conditions of our experiments
