Foreign Direct Investment in Russia: Stakeholders' Views and Perceptions

    Get PDF
Volumes of foreign direct investments (FDI) are growing steadily, however, transition economies, such as Russia, are attracting only a minor share of FDI despite of available potentials. Risk aversion is one of the reasons influencing decision-making processes of FDI investors. This paper reviews existing objective and subjective risks, which impact decisions regarding FDI. The results of the paper are based on the extensive dialogue with stakeholders from Austria, Germany and Japan on the risks for FDI in Russia as well as on the outcomes of the discussions on barriers for trade in frames of the workshop, which brought together Russian and European stakeholders. The results show that political, regulatory, revenue, currency and operational risks within the economy of Russia are perceived by FDI investors from different sectors such as construction, financing, automotive and other industries as being the most likely and probable risks for FDI in Russia. The majority of investors perceive political risks as a greater barrier for investment in Russia. These perceptions are influenced by existing asymmetries on the market and the political decision-making dominance over business environment. Our results support existing evidence on impacts of uncertainties connected with political and regulatory risks for FDI in Russia. However, we did not find evidence that these risk perceptions were affected by creation of the Eurasian Customs Union, neither in positive nor in a negative way. The results suggest that significant progress was already done by improving investment climate in Russia but further efforts are also needed on addressing regulatory risks such as dealing with construction permits, protecting minority investors or simplifying customs regulations, as well as addressing existing market asymmetries

Linear and Nonlinear Chebyshev Iterative Demodulation Algorithms for MIMO Systems with Large Number of Antennas

Massive MIMO technology (MIMO technology with large number of antennas) is planned for use in 5G networks for significant capacity increasing. However, on the way of Massive MIMO application in 5G systems, there are many problems. Some problems are related to the development of digital signal processing algorithms with good quality characteristics and low computational complexity. In this paper Chebyshev linear and nonlinear iterative demodulation algorithms for MIMO systems are discussed along with Zero- Forcing (ZF) algorithm and minimum mean square error (MMSE) algorithm. For the comparison of these algorithms BER performance characteristics were obtained. The nonlinear algorithm shows a gain of about 1 dB compared to MMSE and has same computational complexity for the case of 64 antennas

This research focuses on the relationship between corporate governance and performance in the largest European listed banks, which have been studied to a lesser extent within this field. The study is based on agency theory and we use a sample of 404 observations referring to 97 banks selected from the annual ranking of the 2,000 biggest companies in the world prepared by Forbes. The paper covers the period from 2006 to 2010, thus, examining the changes in the performance drivers in the recent financial crisis. On the basis of the panel data analysis, we confirm that the variety of governance factors including board size, insider appointed, directors’ age, board meetings and affiliated committees influence the performance of the banks. This paper contributes to a better understanding of the effect of corporate governance on the financial performance of the financial companies in times of high capital market volatility.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Large companies in the sphere of chemical industry were investigated with the aim of analysis of the formation of the ecological policy of the corporations and the determination of the main factors, trends and tendencies. As a result the main factors of formation of ecological policy of the corporation were determined as well as various kinds of adaptation strategy. The systematization of nature-protecting measures and the assessment of their economic and ecological effectivenes were carried outAvailable from VNTIC / VNTIC - Scientific & Technical Information Centre of RussiaSIGLERURussian Federatio

Dynamics of students’ eco-consciousness under conditions of an unstable epidemiological situation

    No full text
This article deals with the problem of studying the ecological consciousness of students at the stage of the growing pandemic. The authors analyze the main theoretical approaches to the structural organization of eco-consciousness in foreign and domestic psychology. The need for the formation of public eco-consciousness and environmentally oriented values among the modern youth is substantiated. An empirical study of the eco-consciousness structure of students with different degrees of involvement in natural objects, processes and phenomena in an unstable epidemiological situation is presented. High indicators of anthropocentric and archaic types of eco-consciousness are revealed. The attained results can be used by university teachers and practical psychologists to create psychological and pedagogical means of organizing the professional and educational environment at University. It will allow to manage the process of developing the environmental competence of students of different specialties

The model of creation of energy-saving competence of students of high school

    No full text
This article considers the most important conditions for the creationof energy-saving competence of students – undergraduate training. The actualityof the problem is caused by low energy efficiency of industrial production, significantly reduces the competitiveness of the domestic economy and, consequently, the need to intensify activities on the rational use of energy resources. The definition of energy-saving expertise, marked its structural components (value-motivational, cognitive activity-reflexive). Stages of creationof energy-saving expertise in system of continuous vocational training: diagnosis, motivation, learning and reflective-evaluative. The possibilities of educational technology and psycho designed to work with the psychological barriers and resistance to the process of regulation of energy consumption, the production facilities at its energy efficiency and energy saving. In particular, it is recommended to use active learning methods (discussion, games, analysis of problem situations, etc.), Information and communication technologies for the implementation of educational and research projects in the field of energy conservation, the development and implementation of interactive multimedia learning environments

BRIDGING TRANSLATORS' UNIVERSITY TRAINING, INDUSTRY AND BUSINESS

Globalisation opens up opportunities never existed before. Today's graduates in translation studies have a good chance to make a successful career using such opportunities. Currently there is an ongoing discussion on the scope and array of the skill that can be enough to fit into the working environment in a particular sphere. The article looks at translation skills gained at higher school and maps out their further development into a business. The paper tries to identify ways that can help graduates determine their professional path and develop a promising vision into the future. It should be mentioned that the paper has been produced by rather divers actors who however have common grounds for the considerations that the paper offers. Anastasia Atabekova is the Director of the MA Course on Legal translation and Interpreting at RUDN University. Valentina Stepanova and Larissa Lutskovskaia are members of this course training team. Jiří Maštálka is a Czech politician and Member of the European Parliament, his office for many years has run internship programmes for the above course students. And finally, Fortunato Denegri who currently is the owner and director of a translation agency, graduated from the abovementioned MA course. Thus, the paper combines academic review and discussion and integrates a real story of a university graduate' professional success and transfer into business environment

OCULAR INSERETS AS A MODERN THERAPY TREND IN OPTHALMOPATHOLOGY

Ocular insert (OI) has its wide recognition and importance from the 19th century around the world, the use of this dosage form in clinical practice was distributed throughout the USSR. The key issue covered in this review is the development of the ocular insert and their testing by specific parameters of quality. It is important to choose the right excipients and standardize ocular inserts according to pharmacopoeia articles (thickness, pH, biodegradation time). It is also important to control those indicators that increase patient compliance. Technology of solid dosage form consists of several stages: mixing, drying and cutting with packaging in primary polymer packaging. So the manufacturer does not need highly specialized equipment and staff skills. Based on this information, we can concluded that ocular inserts are promising and actively researched dosage form, which in the future could fully complement or replace the medical drugs traditionally used in ophthalmology
