Uengageret og ligeglad? – rum og navigationer på socialpædagogiske bosteder for unge

Resumé Artiklen bygger på empiri fra et antropologisk feltarbejde blandt unge voksne med psykiske diagnoser, der bor på §107 socialpædagogiske botilbud. Med udgangspunkt i tre feltnoteuddrag der udspiller sig omkring beboermøder og fælles madlavningssituationer, diskuterer artiklen, hvordan det, der umiddelbart kan genkendes som ”uengagerede og ligeglade unge”, også kan forstås som unge, der på forskellige måder forsøger at skabe ståsteder i et rum, hvor de på den ene side er inviteret til demokratisk deltagelse, men på den anden side positioneres i et pædagogisk opdragende rum. I den forbindelse laver artiklen analytiske nedslag i forhold til, hvordan rum for deltagelse, på trods af gode pædagogiske intentioner, kan opleves irrelevante og udenfor rækkevidde, samt hvordan beboerne protesterer imod de pædagogiske krav om udvikling og deltagelse med undvigelser og tavshed. Abstract Uninvolved and indifferent? – navigations in social pedagogical housing for young peopleThe article is based on empirical data from anthropological fieldwork among young adults, who live in housing facilities for people with severe mental disorders. Drawing on three field note excerpts that take place around residents’ meetings and common cooking situations, the article discusses, how actions that may easily be written off as belonging to ”uncommitted and indifferent young people”, can also be understood as agency belonging to young people who in various ways try to create positions in a space where they, on the one hand, are invited to democratic participation, but on the other hand, are positioned in a pedagogically educational space. The article is centered around two themes; respectively how space for participation, despite good pedagogical intentions, may be perceived as irrelevant and out of reach – and how the young residents may respond to the pedagogical requirements for development and participation with evasions and avoidance mechanisms

Parallel Worlds - Magical Practice Among Modern Witches in Denmark The purpose of the present article is to make a contribution to an understanding of what it means to be a witch in Denmark today. The article thus reviews the extent of the magical circle in Denmark and highlights special characteristics of the modern witch. The magical practice of the witches is elucidated and  analysed through a ritual case, since the very magical practice appears to be characteristic of the witches and defines them in contrast to other similar new religious groups and communities. The article advocates an analytical approach to magic; rather than studying magic as a symbol of something else, for instance as a way of handling uncertainty in difficult times, magical practice should be seen as an emic concept, and the way in which the witches exist in and understand this world. In this  context, the understanding of the existence of two parallel universes is important: the profane and the magic universe, since it is the movements of the witches across the two that make magic possible and explain it. In continuation of this the questions are asked: What do the witches use the magic for, and how is magical practice meaningful in a wider social context? The article argues that the motivations and the subtle shades of the magical practice are overlooked if the analysis does not include the above questions and approach, and it underlines the importance of physicality in the magical practice

Hvordan tror I sådan en som ham bliver vurderet? – (u)synlige kriterier for evaluering

Denne artikel handler om realkompetencevurderinger på grundforløbet til to tekniske erhvervsuddannelser; automekaniker og gastronomi. Artiklen bygger på et antropologisk feltarbejde og stiller igennem forskellige elevperspektiver på det at blive bedømt, spørgsmålstegn ved evalueringernes ”objektive” karakter, ved at spørge: hvad der egentlig bedømmes? Argumentet er, at mens realkompetencevurderingsforløb i et uddannelsespolitisk og afklaringsperspektiv tjener mange formål, så risikerer de også at have uintenderede effekter og virke uigennemsigtige og ekskluderende. En af denne artikels hovedpointer er således, at bedømmelse aldrig foregår som en objektiv proces, men skal forstås som sociale processer, indlejret i kontekster og sociale relationer (Friche 2010, Filer & Pollard 2000). 

Farlig intimitet? Nærhed og distance i feltarbejdet

Som antropologer bruger vi os selv som redskab til at få viden om verden. At være et autentisk, nærværende og empatisk menneske er ikke et direkte defineret krav, men det dirrer i skyggerne af den antropologiske forståelse og tilgang til verden. Andre skal få lyst til at tale med os, involvere os i deres liv. Et af svarene på, hvad de får til gengæld, er at blive mødt af et lyttende og nærværende menneske. Pædagoger er en faggruppe, der lige præcis i for- hold til det at bruge sig selv som redskab til at få adgang til den anden, kan minde om antropologer

Kampen for egen historie: – om multivokale sygdomsnarrativer

Artiklen fokuserer på Kim, som bor på et socialpsykiatrisk bosted for mennesker med psykiske problemer. Med udgangspunkt i en konstruktivistisk forståelse af narrativitet undersøger vi, hvordan Kim tales frem af ham selv og af hans omgivelser. Igennem nedslag i henholdsvis Kims egne narrativer og de måder hvorpå personalet på bostedet og hans familie taler ham frem, spørger vi, hvordan rammer, kontekster og andre aktører bidrager til skabelsen af individets fortællinger. Ved at fokusere på en enkelt case bliver det muligt at invitere forskellige stemmer og kontekster, som Kim indgår i, ind i analysen og således illustrere den grundlæggende multivokalitet, der gør sig gældende i fortællingerne af og om Kim. Denne multivokalitet, bliver ikke mindre kompliceret af, at Kims erfaringer med psykoser har lært ham at tvivle på sine egne minder. Med udgangspunkt i en stigende efterspørgsel efter psykiatribrugeres “egne fortællinger”, spørger vi, hvad “egne” fortællinger egentlig er og problematiserer den formodning om autenticitet, som nogle gange impliceres. Artiklens forskellige nedslag illustrerer, hvordan kontekster og relationer sætter rammer for fortællingerne og præger deres udformning. Konteksten er derfor afgørende for forståelsen af, hvad det vil sige at lytte efter brugernes egne stemmer og for, hvad der genkendes som autentisk. Betydningen af at lytte til brugernes fortællinger ligger derfor i vores forståelse ikke i deres formodede autenticitet, men snarere i, at deres fortællinger fungerer som måder at (gen)etablere agens og stærke modfortællinger hos psykiatribrugere.In this article, we focus on Kim, who lives in a community housing for people with mental health problems. Based on a constructivist understanding of narrative we examine how Kim’s story is narrated by himself and his surroundings. Through an analysis of Kim’s own narratives, and the narratives of his family and of the staff at the community housing, we ask how contexts and other people’s versions contribute to the creation of an individual’s narrative. By focusing on a single case, we are able to invite different voices and contexts in which Kim participates, into the analysis, thus illustrating the basic multivocality of the narratives of and about Kim. This multivocality is further complicated by the fact that Kim’s experience with psychoses has taught him to doubt his own memories. Based on an increasing request for service users’ own stories, we ask how to understand such “own” stories, and we question the assumptions about “authenticity” that it sometimes involves. Through focusing on a variety of contexts and agents, we illustrate how contexts and relationships frame the narratives and affect their design. Thus, context is crucial for understanding what listening to the service users’ “own” stories involves as well as for the understanding of “authenticity”. In our understanding, the importance of listening to the narratives of service users lies not in their assumed authenticity, but rather in the ways in which telling ones story may serve as a way to (re)establish agency
