A Survey of Recent Studies in Rabbinic Literature

Versión ampliada de una conferencia leída en el Simposio de la Asociación Española de Estudios Hebreos y Judíos en la Universidad de Córdoba el 4 de junio de 2009. Agradezco también cordialmente a Lorena Miralles Maciá la revisión de mi texto.Esta panorámica ofrece una presentación rápida de los principales problemas de la investigación en el campo de la literatura rabínica, tales como el estado social de los rabinos palestinenses y la necesidad de una lectura documentaria de sus obras. ¿De qué tipo de redacción podemos hablar, cuál es el papel de los redactores y cómo usan las fuentes previas? ¿Se puede hablar de la redacción final de una obra y de diferentes autores? ¿Qué estabilidad tiene su transmisión manuscrita (contra la tesis generalizada de copistas creadores)? Se dedica además un apéndice a las principales contribuciones de los investigadores españoles en el campo de la literatura rabínica.This brief survey presents some central problems in the recent study of rabbinic literature, as the social structure of the rabbinic movement in Palestine and the necessity to read the rabbinic works separately as individual documents instead of being part of the «sea of the Talmud». Main questions are how to understand the redaction of rabbinic works and the role of the redactors, at what degree we can speak of a final redaction and a finished work and to what extent we can speak of «creative copyists» producing a new redaction with every manuscript of a work. An appendix presents the main contributions of Spanish specialists in the field

En los más de 70 años que han transcurrido desde el final de la Segunda Guerra Mundial y el Holocausto (Shoá, en hebreo), los estudios judíos han ido ganando preeminencia como parte integrante del mundo académico en Austria, Alemania y, con un cierto retraso, también en los demás países de Centroeuropa, experimentando un desarrollo significativo. Panorámica de los estudios rabínicos en la actualidad

El artículo reseña y valora los desarrollos más notables de la investigación en el campo de la literatura rabínica (Misnah, Tosefta, Talmud y Midrás) durante los (últimos veinte años. Los dichos arameos de Hillel en el tratado Abot

In this paper I study the Aramaic sayings attributed to Hillel in tractate Abot. Their language, their textual transmission, and above all the fact that they left nearly no imprint in rabbinic literature, suggest that they were originally popular proverbs that only later were charged with a religious meaning and attributed to Hillel. They certainly do not belong to the older layers of the tractate.En este estudio analizo los dichos arameos del tratado Abot atribuidos a Hillel. Su lengua, su transmisión textual y, sobre todo, que se encuentren pocas huellas en la literatura rabínica sugieren que son dichos populares que sólo más tarde fueron interpretados en un sentido religioso y atribuidos a Hillel. No pertenecen, por tanto, al núcleo más antiguo de Abot

Mesenchymal Stem Cells in a Transgenic Mouse Model of Multiple System Atrophy: Immunomodulation and Neuroprotection

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) are currently strong candidates for cell-based therapies. They are well known for their differentiation potential and immunoregulatory properties and have been proven to be potentially effective in the treatment of a large variety of diseases, including neurodegenerative disorders. Currently there is no treatment that provides consistent long-term benefits for patients with multiple system atrophy (MSA), a fatal late onset α-synucleinopathy. Principally neuroprotective or regenerative strategies, including cell-based therapies, represent a powerful approach for treating MSA. In this study we investigated the efficacy of intravenously applied MSCs in terms of behavioural improvement, neuroprotection and modulation of neuroinflammation in the (PLP)-αsynuclein (αSYN) MSA model.MSCs were intravenously applied in aged (PLP)-αSYN transgenic mice. Behavioural analyses, defining fine motor coordination and balance capabilities as well as stride length analysis, were performed to measure behavioural outcome. Neuroprotection was assessed by quantifying TH neurons in the substantia nigra pars compacta (SNc). MSC treatment on neuroinflammation was analysed by cytokine measurements (IL-1α, IL-2, IL-4, IL-5, IL-6, IL-10, IL-17, GM-CSF, INFγ, MCP-1, TGF-β1, TNF-α) in brain lysates together with immunohistochemistry for T-cells and microglia. Four weeks post MSC treatment we observed neuroprotection in the SNc, as well as downregulation of cytokines involved in neuroinflammation. However, there was no behavioural improvement after MSC application.To our knowledge this is the first experimental approach of MSC treatment in a transgenic MSA mouse model. Our data suggest that intravenously infused MSCs have a potent effect on immunomodulation and neuroprotection. Our data warrant further studies to elucidate the efficacy of systemically administered MSCs in transgenic MSA models
