Spatial Hedonics and the Willingness to Pay for Residential Amenities

Housing rents may be influenced by characteristics of nearby properties, an effect captured by spatial autoregression in a hedonic rent equation. We investigate the implications of spatial autoregression for measuring the marginal welfare effects due to a change in a residential amenity such as air quality. We show that if spatial price interdependence arises from technological spillovers, such that utility depends directly on neighboring property values, then the welfare change is given by the reduced form of the autoregressive model, effectively applying a "spatial multiplier" to the relevant implicit price. If instead spatial interdependence arises from merely pecuniary spillovers, as is commonly supposed in motivating spatial autoregression, then no spatial multiplier on implicit prices is called for in computing welfare; but it is then especially important to use the autoregressive model to measure those implicit prices.Spatial autocorrelation; spatial lag; welfare; willingness to pay; hedonic price function

Site-controlled InAs nano dots were successfully fabricated by a STMBE system (in situ scanning tunneling microscopy during molecular beam epitaxy growth) at substrate temperatures from 50 to 430°C. After 1.5 ML of the InAs wetting layer (WL) growth by ordinal Stranski–Krastanov dot fabrication procedures, we applied voltage at particular sites on the InAs WL, creating the site where In atoms, which were migrating on the WL, favored to congregate. At 240°C, InAs nano dots (width: 20–40 nm, height: 1.5–2.0 nm) were fabricated. At 430°C, InAs nano dots (width: 16–20 nm, height: 0.75–1.5 nm) were also fabricated. However, these dots were remained at least 40 s and collapsed less than 1000 s. Then, we fabricated InAs nano dots (width: 24–150 nm, height: 2.8–28 nm) at 300°C under In and As4 irradiations. These were not collapsed and considered to high crystalline dots

    Patient-Centered Pathology Report: Rapid Review

    Get PDF
Pathology tests are an essential part of healthcare. Pathology reports provide vital diagnostic and prognostic information to providers and patients. Despite their importance, pathology reports are written in language that most patients do not understand. A rapid review was conducted to examine studies that outline guidance and recommendations to provide patient-centered pathology reports (PCPR) and educational material. A total of 437 titles and abstracts were screened from the PubMed database. Studied were included if they were original research articles published in English. The search yielded 4 papers which were included in the final analysis. Results from the review demonstrate that when available, PCPRs were viewed favorably by patients, and allowed patients to better identify and recall important elements of their report. Additionally, patients believe that PCPR facilitated better communications. The scarcity of literature on the subject demonstrates a dire need for further research into what is one of the cornerstones of patient care

Abstract: This dissertation is the result of a study that attempted a comprehension of which directions of citizenship are produced in the relations between working class families and operating agents of social policies in the district Tabuleiro, in the city of Matinhos, Paraná. The survey was inspired by the ethnographic method, through which eight resident families of the district were accompanied, and agents from the programs of Social Assistance, Education and Health, who worked in the territory under study, were interviewed as well. A theoretical approach was adopted, which acknowledged that the relations between the participants produced the directions of the social practices. Moreover, the dialogue with the bibliography was comprised of authors who, in a Brazilian context, have studied themes such as social policies, citizenship and working class families in the scope of the social sciences. Some conclusions of this paper indicate that the experiences which the surveyed families undergo reveal that the discriminatory conditions, to which they are submitted, hinder their capitalization of social rights. In addition, it is noticed that the families equate access to the programs and services from two significant landmarks of their paths in life: the link that they have established with the city, due to their "outsider" status, and their experiences of constant restarts, expressed by the need to migrate to Matinhos. The study also identified that the administration model in vigor in the city, associated with the unstable work relations of the operating agents of the social policies, has a significant impact on the performance of these agents. Such characteristics would result in a bit of caution by the population regarding the expectations of the state and its policies. The paper is concluded by revealing that the studied relations are ingrained within the repertoire of relations that constitute the routes of citizenship in Brazil. Key-words: Citizenship. Social policies. Working class families

Trypanosoma cruzi (T. cruzi) is an intracellular protozoan pathogen that causes American trypanosomiasis (Chagas disease). The aim of this study was to evaluate the histopathological effects of acute infection by T. cruzi on bone repair. Wistar rats were used throughout. The animals were assigned to two groups: Control Group (CG n =20) and Experimental Group (EG n =20). All the animals were anesthetized, at t0 the first lower right molar was extracted. The EG animals were inoculated subcutaneously at t0 with 0.1 mL of 105 trypomastigotes of the virulent strain Tulahuen of T. cruzi. The CG animals were administered an equivalent volume of saline solution subcutaneously. The animals in both groups were euthanized at 15 days post-infection and tooth extraction. The mandibles were resected, fixed in formalin solution, radiographed, decalcified and embedded in paraffin. Bucco-lingually oriented sections were obtained at the level of the mesial tooth socket of the first lower molar, and stained with hematoxylin-eosin. Total alveolar volume (TV) and bone volume (TBV/TV) in the apical third of the tooth socket were evaluated histomorphometrically. The histological analysis revealed an alteration in post-extraction bone tissue repair in animals infected by T. cruzi. A reduction in osteogenic activity was observed concomitant with a rise in quiescent and eroded bone surfaces. Histomorphometric evaluation revealed a significant reduction (19%) in total alveolar volume (TV) and bone volume (TBV/TV) (24%) in the apical third of the tooth socket in animals infected with T. cruzi in comparison to non-infected animals (p<0.05). The results obtained using this experimental model showed decreased osteogenesis in bone tissue repair under acute Trypanosoma cruzi infection in rats. Fil: Steimetz, Tammy.
