Relationship Between School Culture with Teacher Retention

A midwestern educational institution focused on career and technical education experienced a high teacher attrition rate since 2012. The school has struggled to find qualified teachers in the rural communities it serves. The study focused on the relationship of school culture and teacher retention. Using Mary Douglas's Typology of Grid and Group and qualitative methods the culture of the educational institution was evaluated. The data suggest there is dissonance in the perceived culture and the preferred culture. This discord appears to have a negative effect on teacher retention at the midwestern educational institution

This presentation will explain how the LinkOut process works, adding a library icon to open access journals in PubMed, and managing LinkOut with a SFX Link Resolver

Does Success For All Impact Reading Achievement Of Students With Learning Disabilities?

This dissertation seeks an answer to the question: Will students with learning disabilities who were provided reading instruction through the Success For All reading program demonstrate higher reading achievement on selected reading assessments (Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test and the Qualitative Reading Inventory-3) than the students with learning disabilities who were provided reading instruction through other reading programs? Determining the impact of the Success For All reading program on reading assessment scores will add to the research about effective reading instruction methods for use with students with learning disabilities. The target population of this study was third grade students with learning disabilities in one central Florida school district. Seventeen total participants were included in the final data analysis. Because of the small number of participants, the researcher is reluctant to make generalizations based on the results of this study. However, the results of a logical analysis of the data indicated that the students with learning disabilities who received reading instruction through the Success For All program did not consistently perform better on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test or the Qualitative Reading Inventory-3 reading assessments than the students with learning disabilities who were provided reading instruction through other evidenced-based reading programs

Open Access Journal Usage at EIU

As the number of open access journals grows, the usage of the material in libraries is growing. Nearly one quarter of all full text access at Eastern Illinois University comes from open access sources. This poster provides statistics as well as trends over time on OA usage at EIU

Empowering Innovation

In January of 2011, Booth Library was the recipient of a Technology Improvement Award for the purchase of a new Web server. With a new enterprise-class server, it was possible to have several virtual machines running on one physical server. Using virtualization, we are able to run Microsoft Server 2008 and Ubuntu Linux as separate virtual machines on the same computer. The Linux environment is host to several open-source projects, such as call number mapping and Facebook applications.
