En la Biblioteca Bodleiana de Oxford, en los ficheros de la sala de manuscritos occidentales y de libros impresos antes de 1640, llamada Duke Hunfrey's Library, encontré una referencia a B. Arias Montano -la única en estos ficheros- en una carta de John Mill dirigida posiblemente al secretario de William Sancroft, arzobispo de Canterbury de 1678 a 1690, en respuesta a algunas consultas bibliográficas. The Textual Significance of Spanish Polyglot Bibles

Within the history of the Biblical text, the 16th century Spanish Polyglot Bibles are monumental productions that do not deserve to fall into oblivion. This article points out the historical and philological aspects that better reveal their significance in the world of the Renaissance and their unquestionable transcendence in Biblical philology. Cardinal Cisneros' tenacity and generosity first, and then Benito Arias Montano's knowledge made possible the edition of these two Spanish Polyglot Bibles, the Complutensian and the Royal. They constitute the point of departure of modern Biblical textual criticism, whose principles keep alive that initial spirit that leads to a wider acquaintance with the text.Dentro de la historia del texto bíblico, las Biblias Políglotas españolas del siglo XVI son obras monumentales que no merecen quedar en el olvido. En este artículo se ponen de relieve los aspectos históricos y filológicos que mejor transmiten su significación en el mundo renacentista y su trascendencia indudable para la filología bíblica. El tesón y la generosidad del Cardenal Cisneros primero y la sabiduría de Benito Arias Montano después hicieron posible que estas dos Biblias Políglotas españolas, Complutense y Regia, se llegaran a publicar. Constituyen el punto de partida de la moderna crítica textual bíblica, cuyos principios mantienen vivo aquel espíritu inicial que conduce a un mayor conocimiento del texto

Traces of a Non-Masoretic Text in the Antiochene Revision

The problems concerning the correspondence between Greek and Masoretic texts must be considered within the scope of a Hebrew textual pluralism, that could be able to explain large displacements and many of Greek doublets. The author presents and analyses two fragments of the Antiochene text of the first book of Kings as a sample of the lacking in correspondence with Masoretic text. As in coincident sections Greek is strongly literal, it seems that the Greek translation of these books tended to be faithful to the original, therefore the discrepancies of quite a great extent, as those presented here, show that the underlying Hebrew text held considerable differences from Masoretic.Los problemas que presenta el texto griego bíblico de los libros históricos en relación con el texto hebreo masorético han de considerarse dentro de un pluralismo textual hebreo capaz de explicar los grandes desplazamientos y muchos de los dobletes griegos. La autora presenta y analiza dos fragmentos del texto antioqueno del libro primero de los Reyes como ejemplo de la falta de correspondencia entre ambos textos. La fuerte literalidad que se percibe en las secciones coincidentes con el texto masorético pone de manifiesto que la traducción griega de estos libros tendía a ajustarse al texto base, por lo que discrepancias de cierta magnitud como las presentadas aquí indican que el texto hebreo subyacente contenía importantes diferencias con el masorético
