This paper focuses on the Effective Black Parenting Program developed by the Center for the Improvement of Child Caring. The present inquiry was an attempt to present the adaptation of this program to Black families in a non-urban setting. The author is certified as a facilitator of the program. The study focuses on the use of role analysis and group dynamics as teaching tools. Effective parenting programs are very important in the survival and socialization of Black children

This Synopsis highlights significant legal developments that occurred in the field of immigration in 1985. Although the Supreme Court decided only two cases concerning immigration law, the lower federal courts were highly active, especially with respect to issues evolving from illegal immigration. In 1985, increasing public debate in the United States over such issues as the sanctuary movement and the need for major immigration reform legislation evidenced the present lack of consensus as to the political, social, and economic effects which result from the flow of undocumented immigrants into this country

Integrals of motion and the shape of the attractor for the Lorenz model

In this paper, we consider three-dimensional dynamical systems, as for example the Lorenz model. For these systems, we introduce a method for obtaining families of two-dimensional surfaces such that trajectories cross each surface of the family in the same direction. For obtaining these surfaces, we are guided by the integrals of motion that exist for particular values of the parameters of the system. Nonetheless families of surfaces are obtained for arbitrary values of these parameters. Only a bounded region of the phase space is not filled by these surfaces. The global attractor of the system must be contained in this region. In this way, we obtain information on the shape and location of the global attractor. These results are more restrictive than similar bounds that have been recently found by the method of Lyapunov functions.Comment: 17 pages,12 figures. Development of Local Hay Association

The need for a Hay marketing system had been obvious to hay sellers and agricultural leaders in Larue County for some time. Five or six hay producers had been selling mainly alfalfa hay to truckers, who would transport the hay to a buyer and reap the profit. Hay was mostly sold by the bale and at a low price. Because of the land and soil type, Larue County had a good potential to produce alfalfa as a cash crop. The development of this potential was being limited by an unreliable and unprofitable market. Given these conditions, the development of a local Hay Marketing Association was a good alternative which we pursued

Comparison of X-ray and gamma-ray dose-response curves for pink somatic mutations in Tradescantia clone 02

Microdosimetric data indicate that the mean specific energy,zeta, produced by individual charged particles from X rays and gamma rays is different for the two radiation qualities by nearly a factor of two. In order to test whether this influences the initial, linear component in the dose-effect relations, a comparison was made between dose-response curves for pink somatic mutations inTradescantia clone 02 stamen hairs following X and gamma irradiations. Absorbed doses ranged from 2.66 to 300 rad. The results are in agreement with predictions made on the basis of microdosimetric data. At low doses gamma rays are substantially less effective than X rays. The RBE of gamma rays vs. X rays at low doses was approximately 0.6, a value lower than those usually reported in other experimental systems

Performance of a Liberty 12 airplane engine

In cooperation with the Engineering Division of the Air Service of the United States Army, a Liberty-12 engine has been tested at the Bureau of Standards. The program of tests was planned to yield that information considered most important in determining the value of the engine for aviation. Full power runs were made at the ground, at 25,000 feet, and at several intermediate altitudes. To determine the mechanical efficiency of the engine, friction horsepower was measured at the ground and at 15,000 feet. As a basis for predicting engine performance with a propeller, a series of tests was made in which the dynamometer load and engine throttle were adjusted at each speed to simulate the engine load which would be imposed at that speed by a propeller operating under normal full load at 1,700 r.p.m. Among the quantities calculated from the test measurements are: brake horsepower; break mean effective pressure; fuel consumption; mixture ratio; mechanical, thermal, and volumetric efficiency; and the percentage of the heat in the fuel appearing in the jacket water and in the exhaust. Jacket water temperature, oil temperature, manifold pressure, etc., are recorded to show the conditions under which the test was made
