NASA Developmental Biology Workshop: A summary
The Life Sciences Division of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) as part of its continuing assessment of its research program, convened a workshop on Developmental Biology to determine whether there are important scientific studies in this area which warrant continued or expanded NASA support. The workshop consisted of six panels, each of which focused on a single major phylogenetic group. The objectives of each panel were to determine whether gravity plays a role in the ontogeny of their subject group, to determine whether the microgravity of spaceflight can be used to help understand fundamental problems in developmental biology, to develop the rationale and hypotheses for conducting NASA-relevant research in development biology both on the ground and in space, and to identify any unique equipment and facilities that would be required to support both ground-based and spaceflight experiments
A Broadband UHF Tag Antenna For Near-Field and Far-Field RFID Communications
The paper deals with the design of passive broadband tag antenna for Ultra-High Frequency (UHF) band. The antenna is intended for both near and far fields Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) applications. The meander dipole tag antenna geometry modification is designed for frequency bandwidth increasing. The measured bandwidth of the proposed broadband Tag antenna is more than 140 MHz (820–960 MHz), which can cover the entire UHF RFID band. A comparison between chip impedance of datasheet and the measured chip impedance has been used in our simulations. The proposed progressive meandered antenna structure, with an overall size of 77 mm × 14 mm × 0.787 mm, produces strong and uniform magnetic field distribution in the near-field zone. The antenna impedance is matched to common UHF chips in market simply by tuning its capacitive and inductive values since a perfect matching is required in the antenna design in order to enhance the near and the far field communications. Measurements confirm that the designed antenna exhibits good performance of Tag identification for both near-field and far-field UHF RFID applications
Inclusive Breakup Theory of Three-Body Halos
We present a recently developed theory for the inclusive breakup of
three-fragment projectiles within a four-body spectator model
\cite{CarPLB2017}, for the treatment of the elastic and inclusive non-elastic
break up reactions involving weakly bound three-cluster nuclei in
/ collisions. The four-body theory is an extension of the
three-body approaches developed in the 80's by Ichimura, Autern and Vincent
(IAV) \cite{IAV1985}, Udagawa and Tamura (UT) \cite{UT1981} and Hussein and
McVoy (HM) \cite{HM1985}. We expect that experimentalists shall be encouraged
to search for more information about the system in the elastic
breakup cross section and that also further developments and extensions of the
surrogate method will be pursued, based on the inclusive non-elastic breakup
part of the spectrum.Comment: 8 pages, 3 figures, Contribution to the Proceedings of Fusion17:
