Obra resenhada: NARLOCH, Leandro. Delaying the timing of offshoring low-skilled tasks
WOS:000281106500009 (Nº de Acesso Web of Science)This paper examines the impact of uncertainty on offshoring low-skilled tasks. The model shows that greater demand uncertainty adversely affects the expected profit and timing of offshoring. It is also shown that a home-country tax rate deduction increases the volatility of the expected profits, making offshoring appear to be more risky. One policy implication of our results is that, in order to delay relocation of MNE's production from the home country, a government should adopt tax rate deduction rather than a direct subsidy because the former is more economical and effective than the latter
Spin configurations in hard-soft coupled bilayer systems: from rigid magnet to exchange spring transitions
We investigate equilibrium properties of an exchange-spring magnetic system
constituted of a soft layer (e.g. Fe) of a given thickness on top of a hard
magnetic layer (e.g. FePt). The magnetization profile M(z) as a function of the
atomic position ranging from the bottom of the hard layer to the top of the
soft layer is obtained in two cases with regard to the hard layer: i) in the
case of a rigid interface (the FePt layer is a single layer), the profile is
obtained analytically as the exact solution of a sine-Gordon equation with
Cauchy's boundary conditions. Additional numerical simulations also confirm
this result. Asymptotic expressions of M(z) show a linear behavior near the
bottom and the top of the soft layer. In addition, a critical value of the
number of atomic planes in the soft layer, that is necessary for the onset of
spin deviations, is obtained in terms of the anisotropy and exchange coupling
between the adjacent plane in the soft layer. ii) in the case of a relaxed
interface (the FePt layer is a multilayer), the magnetization profile is
obtained numerically for various Fe and FePt films thicknesses and applied
field.Comment: 10 pages, 9 figures, PRB submitted (12-07-2010
The multidimensional role of social entrepreneurship: A case study approach within an international project context
Social entrepreneurship creates social value and has a multidimensional impact (e.g. economic, environmental, cultural). This is related to the complexity and multidimensional approaches to current societal problems such as climatic changes and socioeconomic crises. The paper explores this multidimensionality by presenting three Portuguese case studies of social entrepreneurship operating in diverse domains. The study is based on primary and secondary data on the selected social enterprises. The analysis explores the motivations and constraints in forming a social enterprise and the impact of entrepreneurial activity. There is evidence of multiple roles played by these entrepreneurial agents, and, therefore, their critical role in the response to the problems that current societies face.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
