Lepton Flavour Violating top decays at the LHC

    Get PDF
We consider lepton flavour violating decays of the top quark, mediated by four-fermion operators. We compile constraints on a complete set of SU(3)*U(1)-invariant operators, arising from their loop contributions to rare decays and from HERA's single top search. The bounds on e-mu flavour change are more restrictive than l-tau; nonetheless the top could decay to a jet +eμˉ+ e \bar{\mu} with a branching ratio of order 10−310^{-3}. We estimate that the currently available LHC data (20 inverse-fb at 8 TeV) could be sensitive to BR(t→eμˉBR(t \to e \bar{\mu}+ jet) ∼6×10−5 \sim 6\times 10^{-5}, and extrapolate that 100 inverse-fb at 13 TeV could reach a sensitivity of ∼1×10−5 \sim 1 \times 10^{-5}.Comment: 10 pages + Appendice

New technique to measure the cavity defects of Fabry-Perot interferometers

(Abridged): We define and test a new technique to accurately measure the cavity defects of air-spaced FPIs, including distortions due to the spectral tuning process typical of astronomical observations. We further develop a correction technique to maintain the shape of the cavity as constant as possible during the spectral scan. These are necessary steps to optimize the spectral transmission profile of a two-dimensional spectrograph using one or more FPIs. We devise a generalization of the techniques developed for the so-called phase-shifting interferometry to the case of FPIs. The technique is applicable to any FPI that can be tuned via changing the cavity spacing (zz-axis), and can be used for any etalon regardless of the coating' reflectivity. The major strength of our method is the ability to fully characterize the cavity during a spectral scan, allowing for the determination of scan-dependent modifications of the plates. As a test, we have applied this technique to three 50 mm diameter interferometers, with cavity gaps ranging between 600 micron and 3 mm, coated for use in the visible range. We obtain accurate and reliable measures of the cavity defects of air-spaced FPIs, and of their evolution during the entire spectral scan. Our main, and unexpected, result is that the relative tilt between the two FPI plates varies significantly during the spectral scan, and can dominate the cavity defects; in particular, we observe that the tilt component at the extremes of the scan is sensibly larger than at the center of the scan. Exploiting the capability of the electronic controllers to set the reference plane at any given spectral step, we develop a correction technique that allows the minimization of the tilt during a complete spectral scan. The correction remains highly stable over long periods, well beyond the typical duration of astronomical observations.Comment: 15 pages, 20+ figures, accepted for publication in A&A. In Argentina at the end of the Twentieth Century, the high rates of unemployment, poverty and hunger led to the emergence of broad vulnerable social sectors, subordinated to the capitalist regime, which had to be integrated into the system. This article proposes a path through successive food programs implemented from 1983 to 2001 in Mar del Plata City, Buenos Aires Province. To observe the periods of validity, the objectives, their target population, the services and the scope of coverage will identify the guidelines underlying the definition and addressing food needs by the State. It can be warn how to approach the alimentary problem and its potential and effective transformation of social reality. Tackling the alimentary issue as a social issue will allow highlighting the regulator character of social politics into the conflict of hunger. In this key, we propose some lines of reflection around the functionality of alimentary policies to the regime of accumulation, while influencing the behavior of the actors, as a nodal part of the social and political ways of regulationFil: Sordini, María Victoria. This paper aims to explore the use of Facebook and blogs around matters related to the provision of social programs. The design of the study is qualitative of exploratory-descriptive type implementing the approach of virtual ethnography. In an exploratory and initial way the publications were systematized as well as the modalities of intervention in them of two groups and a fanpage of Facebook thematized in the following social programs: Universal Assignment per Child (AUH), National Food Security Plan (PNSA) and More Life Plan (PLan Más Vida). The content of blogs that offer information related to these programs was also registered. The observation of the interactions that unfold in the virtual space related to the daily experience of receiving social programs allows deepening the reflection in two vectors: the experientiality of the mother-child binomial as holder-addressee and the lack of information on the implementation of the intervention, which motivated the creation of virtual communities to help the addressees.Fil: Sordini, María Victoria. Social Policies, Conditional Cash Transfer Programs and Types of Indebtedness: Possible Articulations in Twenty First Century Argentina

This article aims at presenting some of the relations and implications of consumption, indebtedness, financialization, and social policies from a sociological perspective. To achieve this, turn to some of our own research, carried on since 2016, on different types of loans granted to Conditional Cash Transfer Programs (CCTs) beneficiaries by private banks which manage the payment of these loans. Within this framework, this article aims at describing the types of loans available for the Asignación Universal por Hijo para Protección Social (Universal Allowance per Child for Social Protection) beneficiaries in Argentina, including both those offered by private banks and by the government institutions which manage the payments. This is an exploratory-qualitative study of the available biographical information on the access and management of loans to Universal Allowance per Child beneficiaries. The argumentation strategy will be as follows: First, we reclaim conceptualizations about social policies; then, second, we describe the modalities of these conceptualizations, such as the CCTs; third, we trace consumption and indebtedness as central aspects of social structures; fourthly, we analyze the modalities of indebtedness available to the Universal Allowance per Child beneficiaries; and we close with thoughts about the emphasis on the mode in which subjects are consolidated, form state actions, as consumers and indebted subjects.Fil: Dettano, Andrea. Update of the Unitarity Triangle Analysis

We present the status of the Unitarity Triangle Analysis (UTA), within the Standard Model (SM) and beyond, with experimental and theoretical inputs updated for the ICHEP 2010 conference. Within the SM, we find that the general consistency among all the constraints leaves space only to some tension (between the UTA prediction and the experimental measurement) in BR(B -> tau nu), sin(2 beta) and epsilon_K. In the UTA beyond the SM, we allow for New Physics (NP) effects in (Delta F)=2 processes. The hint of NP at the 2.9 sigma level in the B_s-\bar B_s mixing turns out to be confirmed by the present update, which includes the new D0 result on the dimuon charge asymmetry but not the new CDF measurement of phi_s, being the likelihood not yet released.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures, Proceedings of the 35th International Conference of High Energy Physics - ICHEP2010 (July 22-28, 2010, Paris
