    Performance analysis of a new deep super-cooling two-stage organic Rankine cycle

Published by Elsevier.In this article, a new deep super-cooling two-stage organic Rankine cycle (DTORC) is proposed and evaluated at high temperature waste heat recovery in order to increase the power output. A thermodynamic model of recuperative organic rankine cycle (ORC) is also established for the purpose of comparison. Furthermore, a new evaluation index, effective heat source utilization, is proposed to reflect the relationship among the heat source, power output and consumption of the waste heat carrier. A simulation model is formulated and analysed under a wide range of operating conditions with the heat resource temperature fixed at 300℃. Hexamethyldisiloxane (MM) and R245fa are used as the working fluid for DTORC, and MM for ORC. In the current work, the comparisons of heat source utilization, net thermal efficiency as well as the total surface area of the heat exchangers between DTORC and RC are discussed in detail. Results show that the DTORC performs better than ORC at high temperature waste heat recovery and it could increase the power output by 150%. Moreover, the maximum net thermal efficiency of DTORC can reach to 23.5% and increased by 30.5% compared with that using ORC, whereas the total surface areas of the heat exchangers are nearly the same.Peer reviewe

    Seroprevalence of Toxoplasma gondii infection in household and stray cats in Lanzhou, northwest China

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p><it>Toxoplasma gondii </it>is an important protozoan parasite infecting humans and almost all warm-blooded animals. As the only definitive host, cats play a crucial role in the transmission of <it>T. gondii </it>infection by shedding parasite oocysts in their feces. However, little information on <it>T. gondii </it>infection in cats was available in Lanzhou, northwest China. This study was performed to determine the seroprevalence of <it>T. gondii </it>infection in household and stray cats in Lanzhou, northwest China.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>A total of 221 (179 households and 42 strays) blood samples were collected from clinically healthy cats admitted to several pet hospitals located in Lanzhou City, between November 2010 and July 2011 for the serological detection of <it>T. gondii </it>infection. The majority (207) of these cats represented Chinese Lihua cats. 47 of 221 (21.3%) examined cats were seropositive for <it>T. gondii </it>infection using the modified agglutination test (MAT) at the cut-off of 1:25. The seroprevalence in household and stray cats was assessed to be 15.6% and 45.2%, respectively, and the difference was statistically significant (<it>P <</it>0.05). The seroprevalence ranged from 15.1% to 25.8% among different age groups, but the differences were not statistically significant (<it>P ></it>0.05). Studies showed that there was no relationship between seroprevalence and the gender (<it>P ></it>0.05).</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>The present survey indicated the high seroprevalence of <it>T. gondii </it>in cats in Lanzhou, northwest China, which poses a threat to animal and human health. Therefore, measures should be taken to control and prevent toxoplasmosis of cats in this area.</p

    The complete mitochondrial genomes for three Toxocara species of human and animal health significance

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Studying mitochondrial (mt) genomics has important implications for various fundamental areas, including mt biochemistry, physiology and molecular biology. In addition, mt genome sequences have provided useful markers for investigating population genetic structures, systematics and phylogenetics of organisms. <it>Toxocara canis, Toxocara cati </it>and <it>Toxocara malaysiensis </it>cause significant health problems in animals and humans. Although they are of importance in human and animal health, no information on the mt genomes for any of <it>Toxocara </it>species is available.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>The sizes of the entire mt genome are 14,322 bp for <it>T. canis</it>, 14029 bp for <it>T. cati </it>and 14266 bp for <it>T. malaysiensis</it>, respectively. These circular genomes are amongst the largest reported to date for all secernentean nematodes. Their relatively large sizes relate mainly to an increased length in the AT-rich region. The mt genomes of the three <it>Toxocara </it>species all encode 12 proteins, two ribosomal RNAs and 22 transfer RNA genes, but lack the ATP synthetase subunit 8 gene, which is consistent with all other species of Nematode studied to date, with the exception of <it>Trichinella spiralis</it>. All genes are transcribed in the same direction and have a nucleotide composition high in A and T, but low in G and C. The contents of A+T of the complete genomes are 68.57% for <it>T. canis</it>, 69.95% for <it>T. cati </it>and 68.86% for <it>T. malaysiensis</it>, among which the A+T for <it>T. canis </it>is the lowest among all nematodes studied to date. The AT bias had a significant effect on both the codon usage pattern and amino acid composition of proteins. The mt genome structures for three <it>Toxocara </it>species, including genes and non-coding regions, are in the same order as for <it>Ascaris suum </it>and <it>Anisakis simplex</it>, but differ from <it>Ancylostoma duodenale</it>, <it>Necator americanus </it>and <it>Caenorhabditis elegans </it>only in the location of the AT-rich region, whereas there are substantial differences when compared with <it>Onchocerca volvulus</it>,<it>Dirofiliria immitis </it>and <it>Strongyloides stercoralis</it>. Phylogenetic analyses based on concatenated amino acid sequences of 12 protein-coding genes revealed that the newly described species <it>T. malaysiensis </it>was more closely related to <it>T. cati </it>than to <it>T. canis</it>, consistent with results of a previous study using sequences of nuclear internal transcribed spacers as genetic markers.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>The present study determined the complete mt genome sequences for three roundworms of human and animal health significance, which provides mtDNA evidence for the validity of <it>T. malaysiensis </it>and also provides a foundation for studying the systematics, population genetics and ecology of these and other nematodes of socio-economic importance.</p

    LiveRetro: Visual Analytics for Strategic Retrospect in Livestream E-Commerce

    Livestream e-commerce integrates live streaming and online shopping, allowing viewers to make purchases while watching. However, effective marketing strategies remain a challenge due to limited empirical research and subjective biases from the absence of quantitative data. Current tools fail to capture the interdependence between live performances and feedback. This study identified computational features, formulated design requirements, and developed LiveRetro, an interactive visual analytics system. It enables comprehensive retrospective analysis of livestream e-commerce for streamers, viewers, and merchandise. LiveRetro employs enhanced visualization and time-series forecasting models to align performance features and feedback, identifying influences at channel, merchandise, feature, and segment levels. Through case studies and expert interviews, the system provides deep insights into the relationship between live performance and streaming statistics, enabling efficient strategic analysis from multiple perspectives.Comment: Accepted by IEEE VIS 202

    XPrompt: Exploring the Extreme of Prompt Tuning

    Prompt tuning learns soft prompts to condition frozen Pre-trained Language Models (PLMs) for performing downstream tasks in a parameter-efficient manner. While prompt tuning has gradually reached the performance level of fine-tuning as the model scale increases, there is still a large performance gap between prompt tuning and fine-tuning for models of moderate and small scales (typically less than 11B parameters). In this paper, we empirically show that the trained prompt tokens can have a negative impact on a downstream task and thus degrade its performance. To bridge the gap, we propose a novel Prompt tuning model with an eXtremely small scale (XPrompt) under the regime of lottery tickets hypothesis. Specifically, XPrompt eliminates the negative prompt tokens at different granularity levels through a hierarchical structured pruning, yielding a more parameter-efficient prompt yet with a competitive performance. Comprehensive experiments are carried out on SuperGLUE tasks, and the extensive results indicate that XPrompt is able to close the performance gap at smaller model scales.Comment: 15 pages, accepted to EMNLP 2022 main conferenc

    Primary studies of Chinese spaceborne SAR

    The primary studies on spaceborne synthetic aperture radar (SAR) in China are discussed. The SAR will be launched aboard a Chinese satellite and operated at L-band with HH polarization. The purpose of the mission in consideration is dedicated to resources and environment uses, especially to natural disaster monitoring. The ground resolution is designed as 25 m x 25 m for detailed mode and 100 m x 100 m for wide scan-SAR mode. The off-nadir angle can be varied from 20 to 40 deg.     A Survey on Location-Driven Influence Maximization

    Influence Maximization (IM), which aims to select a set of users from a social network to maximize the expected number of influenced users, is an evergreen hot research topic. Its research outcomes significantly impact real-world applications such as business marketing. The booming location-based network platforms of the last decade appeal to the researchers embedding the location information into traditional IM research. In this survey, we provide a comprehensive review of the existing location-driven IM studies from the perspective of the following key aspects: (1) a review of the application scenarios of these works, (2) the diffusion models to evaluate the influence propagation, and (3) a comprehensive study of the approaches to deal with the location-driven IM problems together with a particular focus on the accelerating techniques. In the end, we draw prospects into the research directions in future IM research
