Analysis of Export and Import Processes of Seclected Products in Thailand

Administrative and procedural barriers to import and export processes may unnecessarily impede further participation in international trade. Business Process Analysis (BPA) is a powerful tool which can help to identify these barriers and suggest ways to streamline trade processes. As part of the ARTNeT Regional Study on Improving Regional Trade Procedures and Processes, a BPA was conducted on Thai exports of sugar to Bangladesh and auto-parts to India as well as imports of raw materials used to produce electronic goods.Business process Analysis, Trade Facilitation, Thailand, single window, paperless, international supply chain

    Exploring Swarm-Based Visual Effects

    Get PDF
In this paper, we explore the visual effects of animated 2D line strokes and 3D cubes. A given 2D image is segmented into either 2D line strokes or 3D cubes. Each segmented object (i.e., line stroke or each cube) is initialised with the position and the colour of the corresponding pixel in the image. The program animates these objects using the boid framework. This simulates a flocking behavior of line strokes in a 2D space and cubes in a 3D space. In this implementation the animation runs in a cycle from the disintegration of the original image to a swarm of line strokes or 3D cubes, then the swarm moves about and then integrates back into the original image (an example clip has been uploaded to YouTube and can be viewed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aV6h0VzTZ8)

Development of Fly Ash Usage in Thailand

    Get PDF
This paper describes the situation of fly ash usage in Thailand. Firstly, the general information including typical characteristics of fly ash in Thailand is given. Properties of fly ash in Thailand were compared with those of the fly ash in Japan in terms of chemical composition and physical properties. It was found that generally fly ash in Thailand has higher CaO content, higher alkali content but lower silica content and LOI while fineness of the Thai fly ash was generally lower. It was also found that water requirement of both countries fly ashes was about the same. Regarding strength, the Thai fly ash was slightly better. The consumption of fly ash in Thailand increases significantly after the economic crisis in 1997 and at present almost all fly ash produced in Thailand is used as cement replacing material in concrete industry. The paper also describes problem at the early stage of introducing fly ash into the construction industry together with the strategies to promote its use. Finally, examples of application of fly ash in various types of concrete and cementitious products in Thailand are given.conference pape

An explicitly structured control model for exploring search space: chorale harmonisation in the style of J.S. Bach

In this research, we present our computational model which performs four part har-monisation in the style of J.S. Bach. Harmonising Bach chorales is a hard AI problem, comparable to natural language understanding. In our approach, we explore the issue of gaining control in an explicit way for the chorale harmonisation tasks. Generally, the control over the search space may be from both domain dependent and domain inde-pendent control knowledge. Our explicit control emphasises domain dependent control knowledge. The control gained from domain d ependent control enables us to map a clearer relationship between the control applied and its effects. Two examples of do-main dependent control are a plan of tasks to be done and heuristics stating properties of the domain. Examples of domain independent control are notions such as temperature values in an annealing method; mutation rates in Genetic Algorithms; and weights in Artificial Neural Networks. The appeal of the knowledge based approach lies in the accessibility to the control if required. Our system exploits this concept extensively. Control is explicitly expressed by weaving different atomic definitions {i.e. the rules, tests and measures) together with appropriate control primitives. Each expression constructed is called a control definition, which is hierarchical by nature. One drawback of the knowledge based approach is that, as the system grows bigger, the exploitation of the new added knowledge grows exponentially. This leads to an intractable search space. To reduce this intractability problem, we partially search the search space at the meta-level. This meta-level architecture reduces the complexity in the search space by exploiting search at the meta-level which has a smaller search space. The experiment shows that an explicitly structured control offers a greater flexibility in controlling the search space as it allows the control definitions to be manipulated and modified with great flexibility. This is a crucial clement in performing partial search over a big search space. As the control is allowed to be examined, the system also potentially supports elaborate explanations of the system activities and reflections at the meta-level

Analysis of export and import processes of selected products in Thailand

The study focused on the export of sugar, and of parts for electronic devices, because these products are two of Thailand’s highest-performing exports. Trade documents should be examined and revised to reduce redundancy. Steps should be taken to investigate how to reduce costs for preparing, sending and receiving documents as well as the arrangement of inland transport. The study examined the processes involved in the import of raw materials (for electronic devices) in order to give due attention to both sides of trade transaction, and to illustrate the complex procedural requirements and interactions between the agencies that sustain global supply chain

Integrated Reporting: New Dimension of Firms' Performance Reporting

    Get PDF
This article reviews the literature on the concept of integrated reporting which is the concept of firms’ performance reporting. This concept reflects the financial and nonfinancial performances that are vital to the business and its stakeholders; including investors, shareholders, creditors, employees and clients. Therefore, this paper is focused on the developing concepts and findings related to the integrated reportingThe integrated approach should be based on international reporting framework of the International Integrated Reporting Council. There are five factors that made the application effective. First, they engage directors and top management early in the process. Second, they use the process to interrogate the strategies. Third, they provide reporting teams with clear mandates and ensure integration between corporate functions. Fourth, they embed reporting within new and existing management systems. Fifth, they use the report to communicate the outcome of the process effectively. The results found that integrated reporting reports corporate performance in a holistic way. They provide financial and non-financial performance which are important for the business to allocate resource within the organization and to create a good image and risk management about rules and regulations effectively. For the stakeholder’s perspective, integrated reporting is important to improve the stakeholder’s engagement and investor’s demand
