Translation technique study has established itself as a significant approach to the study of the Septuagint. This chapter first defines the term and summarizes its development. Second, it describes translation technique as a method of inquiry that opens up the rich world of the Septuagint by considering it as a translation that must be appreciated in its own right. Third, it demonstrates the essential contribution of translation technique studies to such specialized fields as the textual criticism of the Hebrew Bible, the study of Septuagint syntax, and the theology of the translators.
