Maxon and roton measurements in nanoconfined He
We investigate the behavior of the collective excitations of adsorbed He
in an ordered hexagonal mesopore, examining the crossover from a thin film to a
confined fluid. Here we present the inelastic scattering results as a function
of filling at constant temperature. We find a monotonic transition of the maxon
excitation as a function of filling. This has been interpreted as corresponding
to an increasing density of the adsorbed helium, which approaches the bulk
value as filling increases. The roton minimum exhibits a more complicated
behavior that does not monotonically approach bulk values as filling increases.
The full pore scattering resembles the bulk liquid accompanied by a layer mode.
The maxon and roton scattering, taken together, at intermediate fillings does
not correspond to a single bulk liquid dispersion at negative, low, or high
pressure.Comment: 9 pages, 10 figure
Quantum Critical Scaling in a Moderately Doped Antiferromagnet
Using high temperature expansions for the equal time correlator and
static susceptibility for the t-J model, we present evidence for
quantum critical (QC), , behavior at intermediate temperatures in a
broad range of ratio, doping, and temperatures. We find that the
dynamical susceptibility is very close to the universal scaling function
computable for the asymptotic QC regime, and that the dominant energy scale is
temperature. Our results are in excellent agreement with measurements of the
spin-echo decay rate, , in LaCuO, and provide qualitative
understanding of both and nuclear relaxation rates in
doped cuprates.Comment: 11 pages, REVTeX v3.0, PostScript file for 3 figures is attached,

Performance of alkaline battery cells used in emergency locator transmitters
The characteristics of battery power supplies for emergency locator transmitters (ELT's) were investigated by testing alkaline zinc/manganese dioxide cells of the type typically used in ELT's. Cells from four manufacturers were tested. The cells were subjected to simulated environmental and load conditions representative of those required for survival and operation. Battery cell characteristics that may contribute to ELT malfunctions and limitations were evaluated. Experimental results from the battery cell study are discussed, and an evaluation of ELT performance while operating under a representative worst-case environmental condition is presented
NMR relaxation in half-integer antiferromagnetic spin chains
Nuclear relaxation in half-integer spin chains at low temperatures (T << J,
the antiferromagnetic exchange constant) is dominated by dissipation from a gas
of thermally-excited, overdamped, spinons. The universal low temperature
dependence of the relaxation rates and is computed.Comment: 7 pages, 1 uuencoded postscript figure appende
The Momentum Distribution of Liquid He
We present high-resolution neutron Compton scattering measurements of liquid
He below its renormalized Fermi temperature. Theoretical predictions are in
excellent agreement with the experimental data when instrumental resolution and
final state effects are accounted for. Our results resolve the long-standing
inconsistency between theoretical and experimental estimates of the average
atomic kinetic energy.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
The structural and parametrical organization of elements of a power supply system in the conditions of network centrism
Purpose. Development of indicators of the structural and parametrical organization of effective active and adaptive system of service of power supply systems in the conditions of ideology of Smart Grid. Methodology. In the conditions of application of ideology of Smart Grid for increase of intellectualization of electrical power system there is a need of introduction of the principle of a network centrism in the structural and parametrical organization of elements of power supply systems that involves performance of conditions on implementation of provisions of the principle of Situational Awareness. The essence of this principle consists in that, information on a condition of system has to be presented in the form convenient for the analysis, recognition, transfer, distribution and storage, to be coordinated for flexible and optimum development at the subsystem and object-by-object levels. Results. Structural and parametrical optimization of elements of power supply systems in the conditions of a network centrism and the concept of SG involves use of provisions of the theory of systems and concepts of multicriteria optimizing synthesis. It is offered to use the modified adaptive indicator of the generalizing effect of synthesis of structure of active and adaptive system of service of power supply systems in the form of a difference of the generalizing effects: the introduced option of structure of system and basic. Originality. Introduction of an adaptive indicator of synthesis of system of service of power supply systems considers the concept of Β«service of system on the basis of a responseΒ» in the presence of false and true refusals. Practical value. Use of the specified indicator will allow to specify procedure of selection of competitive options for the purpose of definition of a set of admissible structures which meet the requirements of criterion function.Π ΡΡΠ°ΡΡΠ΅ ΡΠ°ΡΡΠΌΠΎΡΡΠ΅Π½Ρ ΡΠ΅Π½Π΄Π΅Π½ΡΠΈΠΈ ΡΠ°Π·Π²ΠΈΡΠΈΡ ΠΈ ΠΏΡΠΈΠ½ΡΠΈΠΏΡ ΠΎΡΠ³Π°Π½ΠΈΠ·Π°ΡΠΈΠΈ ΠΈΠ½ΡΠ΅Π»Π»Π΅ΠΊΡΡΠ°Π»ΡΠ½ΡΡ

Toward a Unified Magnetic Phase Diagram of the Cuprate Superconductors
We propose a unified magnetic phase diagram of cuprate superconductors. A new
feature of this phase diagram is a broad intermediate doping region of
quantum-critical, , behavior, characterized by temperature independent
and linear , where the spin waves are not completely
absorbed by the electron-hole continuum. The spin gap in the moderately doped
materials is related to the suppression of the low-energy spectral weight in
the quantum disordered, , regime. The crossover to the regime, where
T_1T/T_{\rm 2G}^2 \simeq \mbox{const}, occurs only in the fully doped
materials.Comment: 14 pages, REVTeX v2.1, PostScript file for 3 figures attached,
