The open and distance learning which system or better known as ODL is one of the delivery mediums in teaching and learning (PdP) is gaining attention in higher education institutions during the Covid -19 pandemic season. The shift from face -to -face learning to virtual learning has created new norms in terms of approaches and challenges to lecturers and students. Communication network systems and learning applications are often constrained in the process of meeting the learning outcomes of university courses. Therefore, this study was conducted to identify the background of Diploma in Halal Management students, UiTM Negeri Sembilan Branch who are involved in the ODL process in addition to analyzing communication networks and applications of ODL learning methods used by students. A quantitative approach was selected in this study through the distribution of questionnaires to 122 respondents’ and data were analyzed descriptively using IBM SPSS Statistics version 23 software. Elements of respondents’ background, communication network and application of ODL method were the main indicators in this study. The results of the study found that the majority of respondents live in rural areas and the level of communication network access during the ODL as a whole is at a moderate level. Nevertheless, access to the application of various ODL methods in teaching and learning (PdP) is still accessible with a high speed level mean score value among the majority of respondents. In conclusion, the government, Institutions of Higher Learning and the communications network industry should each play a role in creating broader and diverse initiatives to help students adapt to the new norms of PdP medium by ODL during the Covid-19 pandemic season.

Zakat institutions have observed that allocated funds for students were not being fully utilized each year. This raises questions about whether the students were not aware of the available funds or if the allocated funds were not suitable for their needs. First-timers were more likely to apply zakat for stationeries and paying for tuition fees while repeaters were more likely to pay tickets for public transports. The study's findings provide insight into the spending behavior of students who applied for zakat and can be used as a reference to justify fund allocation in universities
