    Many-core compiler fuzzing

    We address the compiler correctness problem for many-core systems through novel applications of fuzz testing to OpenCL compilers. Focusing on two methods from prior work, random differential testing and testing via equivalence modulo inputs (EMI), we present several strategies for random generation of deterministic, communicating OpenCL kernels, and an injection mechanism that allows EMI testing to be applied to kernels that otherwise exhibit little or no dynamically-dead code. We use these methods to conduct a large, controlled testing campaign with respect to 21 OpenCL (device, compiler) configurations, covering a range of CPU, GPU, accelerator, FPGA and emulator implementations. Our study provides independent validation of claims in prior work related to the effectiveness of random differential testing and EMI testing, proposes novel methods for lifting these techniques to the many-core setting and reveals a significant number of OpenCL compiler bugs in commercial implementations

    Gravitational energy from a combination of a tetrad expression and Einstein's pseudotensor

    The energy-momentum for a gravitating system can be considered by the tetard teleparalle gauge current in orthonormal frames. Whereas the Einstein pseudotensor used holonomic frames. Tetrad expression itself gives a better result for gravitational energy than Einstein's. Inspired by an idea of Deser, we found a gravitational energy expression which enjoys the positive energy property by combining the tetrad expression and the Einstein pseudotensor, i.e., the connection coefficient has a form appropriate to a suitable intermediate between orthonormal and holonomic frames.Comment: 5 page

    We construct an infinite number of new holonomic quasi-local gravitational energy-momentum density pseudotensors with good limits asymptotically and in small regions, both materially and in vacuum. For small vacuum regions they are all a positive multiple of the Bel-Robinson tensor and consequently have positive energy.Comment: 4 page

    Chromium silicide formation by ion mixing

    The formation of CrSi_2 by ion mixing was studied as a function of temperature, silicide thickness and irradiated interface. Samples were prepared by annealing evaporated couples of Cr on Si and Si on Cr at 450°C for short times to form Si/CrSi_2/Cr sandwiches. Xenon beams with energies up to 300 keV and fluences up to 8 X 10^15 cm^(-2) were used for mixing at temperatures between 20 and 300°C. Penetrating only the Cr/CrSi_2 interface at temperatures above 150°C induces further growth of the silicide as a uniform stoichiometric layer. The growth rate does not depend on the thickness of the initially formed silicide at least up to a thickness of 150 nm. The amount of growth depends linearly on the density of energy deposited at the interface. The growth is temperature dependent with an apparent activation energy of 0.2 eV. Irradiating only through the Si/CrSi_2 interface does not induce silicide growth. We conclude that the formation of CrSi_2 by ion beam mixing is an interface-limited process and that the limiting reaction occurs at the Cr/CrSi_2 interface

    Genome Network Project: An Integrated Genomic Platform

    With the objective of elucidating the structure of gene interactions in the human genome, the Genome Network Project has generated a vast quantity of experimental data, mainly focusing on transcriptional control and transcription-factor related protein-protein interactions (PPI). This data has been collected and organized into the Genome Network Platform ("http://genomenetwork.nig.ac.jp/":http://genomenetwork.nig.ac.jp/) at the National Institute of Genetics. Expression data was obtained through CAGE (Cap Analysis Gene Expression), qRT-PCR, tiling array, microarray and short RNA analysis, while PPI information was gathered through yeast two hybrid (Y2H), mammalian two hybrid (M2H) and _in vitro_ virus (IVV) methods. The Genome Network Platform Viewer provides an integrated user interface to the complete database, including services of gene search, whole genome browsing, PPI network viewer, and expression profile analysis. Our platform represents an extremely useful resource for researchers in the field of genomics, and provides access to high quality data through the combination of intuitive browsing and visualization capabilities

    A modification of the Chen-Nester quasilocal expressions

    Chen and Nester proposed four boundary expressions for the quasilocal quantities using the covariant Hamiltonian formalism. Based on these four expressions, there is a simple generalization that one can consider, so that a two parameter set of boundary expressions can be constructed. Using these modified expressions, a nice result for gravitational energy-momentum can be obtained in holonomic frames.Comment: 11 page

    On the prediction of turbulent secondary flows

    The prediction of turbulent secondary flows, with Reynolds stress models, in circular pipes and non-circular ducts is reviewed. Turbulence-driven secondary flows in straight non-circular ducts are considered along with turbulent secondary flows in pipes and ducts that arise from curvature or a system rotation. The physical mechanisms that generate these different kinds of secondary flows are outlined and the level of turbulence closure required to properly compute each type is discussed in detail. Illustrative computations of a variety of different secondary flows obtained from two-equation turbulence models and second-order closures are provided to amplify these points
