Permanent generic relatedness and silent change

    Get PDF
Given the assertion of a relation between two types, like: “Epidermis has part some Keratinocyte”, we define silent change as any kind of change of the instance-relata of the relation in question that does not change the truth-value of the respective type-level assertion. Such assertions are notoriously difficult to model in OWL 2. To address this problem, we distinguish different modes of type-level relatedness giving rise to this problem and describe a conservative extension to the BFO top-level ontology that allows expressing these modes

Characterization of a planar microcoil for implantable microsystems

    Get PDF
This paper discusses the modelling, design and characterization of planar microcoils to be used in telemetry systems that supply energy to miniaturized implants. Parasitic electrical effects that may become important at a.c. frequencies of several megahertz are evaluated. The fabrication process and electrical characterization of planar receiver microcoils will be described, and it will be shown that a power of a few milliwatts is feasible.\u

Topological structure of the SU(3) vacuum and exceptional eigenmodes of the improved Wilson-Dirac operator

    Get PDF
We present a study of the instanton size and spatial distributions in pure SU(3) gauge theory using under-relaxed cooling. We also investigate the low-lying eigenmodes of the (improved) Wilson-Dirac operator, in particular, the appearance of zero-modes and their space-time localisation with respect to instantons in the underlying gauge field.Comment: Contribution to Lattice97 proceedings: 3 pages, LaTeX2e, 4 postscript figures, uses espcrc2.st

Low-Lying Eigenvalues of the Wilson-Dirac Operator

    Get PDF
An exploratory study of the low-lying eigenvalues of the Wilson-Dirac operator and their corresonding eigenvectors is presented. Results for the eigenvalues from quenched and unquenched simulations are discussed. The eigenvectors are studied with respect to their localization properties in the quenched approximation for the cases of SU(2) and SU(3).Comment: Poster presented at LATTICE96(poster). 4 pages, LaTeX, fully coloured versions of Figs. 4 and 5 are included as separate gzipped PostScript files or can be obtained from http://www.desy.de/library/cgi-bin/showprep.pl?desy-rep%2F199615

Biomedizinische Ontologie: Wissen strukturieren fĂĽr den Informatik-Einsatz

    Get PDF

Anabranching and maximum flow efficiency in Magela Creek, northern Australia

    Get PDF
Anabranching is the prevailing river pattern found along alluvial tracts of the world's largest rivers. Hydraulic geometry and bed material discharge are compared between single channel and anabranching reaches up to 4 times bank-full discharge in Magela Creek, northern Australia. The anabranching channels exhibit greater sediment transporting capacity per unit available stream power, i.e., maximum flow efficiency (MFE). Simple flume experiments corroborate our field results showing the flow efficiency gains associated with anabranching, and highlight the prospect of a dominant anabranch, which is found in many anabranching rivers. These results demonstrate that anabranching can constitute a stable river pattern in dynamic equilibrium under circumstances in which a continuous single channel would be unable to maintain sediment conveyance. We propose the existence of a flow efficiency continuum that embraces dynamic equilibrium and disequilibrium (vertically accreting) anabranching rivers
