    The Effectiveness of Using Behavior Specific Praise Versus General Praise For One Elementary-Aged Child with Autism Spectrum Disorder

    The purpose of this study was to look at the effectiveness of general praise (GP) versus behavior specific praise (BSP) on increasing on-task behavior and decreasing the behavior of hitting in an elementary-age child with autism spectrum disorder. The researcher conducted a single function functional analysis to confirm that hitting was maintained by access to adult attention. The researcher used an alternating treatment design to compare GP and BSP as behavior change interventions. The researcher observed an educator working one-on-one with an elementary-aged child with autism. In each condition, the educator gave the praise that corresponded with the condition, to the student, on a variable-interval schedule of 2 min. The results showed BSP to be slightly more effective at increasing on-task behavior, and GP to be slightly more effective at decreasing the problem behavior of hitting in this particular student. More research is needed to support the effectiveness of these interventions with this particular population

    My paintings have a narrative element in the sense that I use symbolism, references to popular culture, and figures that are staged within expressionistic allegorical spaces. These spaces are visualized as a stage or film set in order to evoke a sense of cinematic storytelling, and the architecture is often exaggerated as a means of conveying an otherworldly realm that exists outside of our world. These paintings use symbols to communicate themes such as destabilization, escapism, and social progress while also maintaining a sense of abstraction and ambiguity within the picture plane. Figures are added in order to add a human component to the work, furthering the overall narrative quality of the paintings. Contrasting notions of progress, ambition, and desire with disconnection and anachronism, my work is about how we construct and engage with our reality

    Phase transition in bulk single crystals and thin films of VO2 by nanoscale infrared spectroscopy and imaging

    We have systematically studied a variety of vanadium dioxide (VO2) crystalline forms, including bulk single crystals and oriented thin films, using infrared (IR) near-field spectroscopic imaging techniques. By measuring the IR spectroscopic responses of electrons and phonons in VO2 with sub-grain-size spatial resolution (∼20nm), we show that epitaxial strain in VO2 thin films not only triggers spontaneous local phase separations, but also leads to intermediate electronic and lattice states that are intrinsically different from those found in bulk. Generalized rules of strain- and symmetry-dependent mesoscopic phase inhomogeneity are also discussed. These results set the stage for a comprehensive understanding of complex energy landscapes that may not be readily determined by macroscopic approaches

    SIGNIFICANCE OF TOLL-LIKE RECEPTOR-2 POLYMORPHISM rs4696480 FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF FOOD ALLERGY IN CHILDREN WITH ATOPIC DERMATITIS

    Relevance. Food allergy is one of the most common chronic diseases in children. Toll-like receptors may be unique in the development of food allergies due to their expression by intestinal epithelial and dendritic cells. Objective. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between the rs4696480 polymorphism in TLR2 and the presence of food allergy in children with atopic dermatitis. Material and methods. The study included 103 patients with atopic dermatitis and 84 healthy children. Polymorphism genotyping was performed in the group of patients and the control group using real-time PCR. Food sensitization was determined by presence sIgE to food allergens by the immunochemiluminescent method using an ImmunoCAP 100 (Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., Phadia, Sweden). The presence of food allergy was determined by a detailed clinical history and review of clinical records. Results. In the subgroup of children with food allergies, 9 children had the AA genotype, 7 patients had the heterozygous variant, and 3 children had the TT genotype. Among patients without food allergy, 20 patients had the AA genotype, 39 were heterozygotes, and 25 had the TT genotype. The OR assessment demonstrated that the AA genotype of the rs4696480 polymorphism is reliably associated with the development of food allergy in children with atopic dermatitis, OR=2,880 (1,0271-8,0757). Conclusion. The rs4696480 polymorphism in TLR2 gene is associated with the development of food allergy in Ukrainian children with atopic dermatitis

Substantiated expediency of the using hyaluronic acid in the integrated treatment of wounds. The use of hyaluronic acid leads to faster healing by creating a moist environment in the wound. It stabilizes the coagulation matrix and regulating its dehydration, stimulates cell renewal.В статье приведены обобщенные данные исследований отечественных и иностранных ученых о роли гликозамингликанов в процессах заживления ран. Обоснована целесообразность использования гиалуроновой кислоты в комплексном лечении ран. Использование гиалуроновой кислоты обусловливает более быстрое заживление путем создания влажной среды в ране. Она стабилизирует коагуляционную матрицу и регулирует ее дегидратацию, стимулирует обновление клеток.У статті наведені узагальнені дані досліджень вітчизняних та іноземних вчених стосовно ролі глікозамінгліканів у процесах загоєння ран. Обґрунтовано доцільність використання гіалуронової кислоти в комплексному лікуванні ран. Використання гіалуронової кислоти зумовлює швидше загоєння шляхом створення вологого середовища в рані. Вона стабілізує коагуляційну матрицю і регулює її дегідратацію, стимулює відновлення клітин
