    Development of concurrent infection of notoedric mange in rabbits infected with Trypanosoma evansi

    This report describes observations on the development of cutaneous lesions in rabbits experimentally infected with Trypanosoma evansi. Skinscrapings revealed the presence of different developmental stages of Notoedres cati var. cuniculi and the animals were successfully treated by combined anti-Trypanosoma (diminazene aceturate @ 3.5 mg.kg-1body weight) and acaricid treatments (doramectin @ 400mg.kg-1body weight). T. evansi infection probably made the rabbits more prone to infection of notoedric mange and doramectin proved to be effective, practical and well tolerated means of treatment

    Fibroblast Growth Factor-9 Enhances M2 Macrophage Differentiation and Attenuates Adverse Cardiac Remodeling in the Infarcted Diabetic Heart

    Inflammation has been implicated as a perpetrator of diabetes and its associated complications. Monocytes, key mediators of inflammation, differentiate into pro-inflammatory M1 macrophages and anti-inflammatory M2 macrophages upon infiltration of damaged tissue. However, the inflammatory cell types, which propagate diabetes progression and consequential adverse disorders, remain unclear. The current study was undertaken to assess monocyte infiltration and the role of fibroblast growth factor-9 (FGF-9) on monocyte to macrophage differentiation and cardioprotection in the diabetic infarcted heart. Db/db diabetic mice were assigned to sham, myocardial infarction (MI), and MI+FGF-9 groups. MI was induced by permanent coronary artery ligation and animals were subjected to 2D transthoracic echocardiography two weeks post-surgery. Immunohistochemical and immunoassay results from heart samples collected suggest significantly increased infiltration of monocytes (Mean +/- SEM; MI: 2.02% +/- 0.23% vs. Sham 0.75% +/- 0.07%; p \u3c 0.05) and associated pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-alpha, MCP-1, and IL-6), adverse cardiac remodeling (Mean +/- SEM; MI: 33% +/- 3.04% vs. Sham 2.2% +/- 0.33%; p \u3c 0.05), and left ventricular dysfunction (Mean +/- SEM; MI: 35.4% +/- 1.25% vs. Sham 49.19% +/- 1.07%; p \u3c 0.05) in the MI group. Importantly, treatment of diabetic infarcted myocardium with FGF-9 resulted in significantly decreased monocyte infiltration (Mean +/- SEM; MI+FGF-9: 1.39% +/- 0.1% vs. MI: 2.02% +/- 0.23%; p \u3c 0.05), increased M2 macrophage differentiation (Mean +/- SEM; MI+FGF-9: 4.82% +/- 0.86% vs. MI: 0.85% +/- 0.3%; p \u3c 0.05) and associated anti-inflammatory cytokines (IL-10 and IL-1RA), reduced adverse remodeling (Mean +/- SEM; MI+FGF-9: 11.59% +/- 1.2% vs. MI: 33% +/- 3.04%; p \u3c 0.05), and improved cardiac function (Fractional shortening, Mean +/- SEM; MI+FGF-9: 41.51% +/- 1.68% vs. MI: 35.4% +/- 1.25%; p \u3c 0.05). In conclusion, our data suggest FGF-9 possesses novel therapeutic potential in its ability to mediate monocyte to M2 differentiation and confer cardiac protection in the post-MI diabetic heart

    String matching algorithms are among one of the most widely used algorithms in computer science. Traditional string matching algorithms efficiency of underlaying string matching algorithm will greatly increase the efficiency of any application. In recent years, Graphics processing units are emerged as highly parallel processor. They out perform best of the central processing units in scientific computation power. By combining recent advancement in graphics processing units with string matching algorithms will allows to speed up process of string matching. In this paper we proposed modified parallel version of Rabin-Karp algorithm using graphics processing unit.     Nonlinear dynamics of the interface of dielectric liquids in a strong electric field: Reduced equations of motion

    The evolution of the interface between two ideal dielectric liquids in a strong vertical electric field is studied. It is found that a particular flow regime, for which the velocity potential and the electric field potential are linearly dependent functions, is possible if the ratio of the permittivities of liquids is inversely proportional to the ratio of their densities. The corresponding reduced equations for interface motion are derived. In the limit of small density ratio, these equations coincide with the well-known equations describing the Laplacian growth.Comment: 10 page

    Comparison of the Effects of Zonisamide, Ethosuximide and Pregabalin in the Chronic Constriction Injury Induced Neuropathic Pain in Rats

    Background: Evidence has been generated that various anticonvulsant agents provide relief of several chronic pain syndromes and therefore as an alternative to opioids, nonsteroidal anti.inflammatory, and tricyclic antidepressant drugs in the treatment of neuropathic pain. The results of these studies thus raise the question of whether all anticonvulsant drugs or particular mechanistic classes may be efficacious in the treatment of neuropathic pain syndromes.Aim: The aim was to compare the clinically used anticonvulsant drugs which are differ in their mechanism of action in a chronic pain model, the chronic constriction injury, in order to determine if all anticonvulsants or only particular mechanistic classes of anticonvulsants are analgesic.Materials and Methods: The study included zonisamide, ethosuximide and pregabalin. All compounds were anticonvulsant with diverse mechanism of actions. The peripheral neuropathic pain was induced by chronic constriction injury of the sciatic nerve in male Sprague.Dawley rats. Zonisamide (80 and 40 mg/kg), ethosuximide (300 and 100 mg/kg), pregabalin (50 and 20 mg/kg), and saline was administered intraperitoneally in respective groups in a blinded, randomized manner from postoperative day (POD) 7.13. Paw withdrawal duration to spontaneous pain, chemical allodynia andĀ  mechanical hyperalgesia and paw withdrawal latency to mechanicalĀ  allodynia and thermal hyperalgesia were tested before drug administration on POD7 and after administration on POD 7, 9, 11 and 13.Results: The present study suggests that these drugs could provide an effective alternative in the treatment of neuropathic pain. However, zonisamide and pregabalin appears to have suitable efficacy to treat a wide spectrum of neuropathic pain condition. Conclusion: The present findings suggest that the inhibition of N.type calcium channels or voltage.gated sodium and T.type calcium channels provides better analgesic potential instead of inhibition of T.type calcium channels alone.Keywords: Chronic constriction injury model, Ethosuximide, Neuropathic pain, Pregabalin, Zonisamid
