In the title compound, C27H20O2, the central benzene ring makes dihedral angles of 64.86 (7) and 70.35 (7)° with the methyl-substituted ring and the biphenyl ring system, respectively. The crystal packing is stabilized by intermolecular C—H⋯O interactions, which link the molecules into chains parallel to the b axis

Overexpression of myeloid differentiation protein 88 in mice induces mild cardiac dysfunction, but no deficit in heart morphology

Cardiac remodeling involves changes in heart shape, size, structure, and function after injury to the myocardium. The proinflammatory adaptor protein myeloid differentiation protein 88 (MyD88) contributes to cardiac remodeling. To investigate whether excessive MyD88 levels initiate spontaneous cardiac remodeling at the whole-organism level, we generated a transgenic MyD88 mouse model with a cardiac-specific promoter. MyD88 mice (male, 20-30 g, n=∼80) were born at the expected Mendelian ratio and demonstrated similar morphology of the heart and cardiomyocytes with that of wild-type controls. Although heart weight was unaffected, cardiac contractility of MyD88 hearts was mildly reduced, as shown by echocardiographic examination, compared with wild-type controls. Moreover, the cardiac dysfunction phenotype was associated with elevation of ANF and BNP expression. Collectively, our data provide novel evidence of the critical role of balanced MyD88 signaling in maintaining physiological function in the adult heart

Fabrication of vertically aligned stand alone ZnO nanowire by template assisted approach

In this paper we report the fabrication of ZnO nanowire towards the development of Nanogenerator. High density nano porous array is created on Aluminum coated Silicon substrate by template assisted approach. This is an innovative approach of the present research since the template is grown on the same substrate on which the nano-wires are developed later. Various electrolytes (Sulphuric acid, Oxalic acid and Phosphoric acid) are used for Anodization of Aluminum to study the effect of electrolyte on pore size and their hexagonal structural arrangements. Effect of voltage on pore size and physical properties of the nano template is studied in details. During anodization oxygen molecules in electrolyte reacts with Al film and forms porous Al2O3 (Alumina) on the substrate. For a particular voltage, pore size of the template varies depending on the electrolytes used. Generally for H2SO4 electrolyte, the pore size of the template is found in between 30-35nm when the voltage is applied in the range 25-27V. Further ZnO thin film is deposited by RF Magnetron Sputtering. By removing the alumina template ZnO nanowire array is exposed. By abiding the principle of piezoelectricity, it produces electrical energy when stress is applied. The efficiency of the nanowire based piezoelectric power generator is estimated to be 17 to 30%

Anti-Inflammatory Activity of the Marine Cyanobacterium against Carrageenan-Induced Paw Oedema in Wistar Albino Rats

Inflammatory diseases, including rheumatic, diseases are a major cause of morbidity of the working force throughout the world. Inflammation is a tissue reaction to infection. The effects are redness (erythema), swelling (oedema) and pain, to the area that can result in loss of function. Cyanobacteria are photosynthetic prokaryotic organisms which are potentially useful in pharmaceuticals, industrial chemicals, and restriction enzymes. Trichodesmium species are non-heterocystous cyanobacteria, commonly found in tropical and subtropical oligotrophic oceans. They occur in filaments of 20–200 cells which often congregate to form larger colonies called blooms that can be seen and often form dense blooms covering vast areas in sub-tropical regions. The present study tested the anti-inflammatory effect of the marine cyanobacterium, Trichodesmium erythraeum in carrageenan-induced inflammation in rats. The aqueous extract showed anti-inflammatory activity at a high dosage (500 mg/kg) and this effect was on par with the commercial drug, indomethacin. The inhibition of inflammation volume was 57.5±5.5 % and 47.5±4.7% respectively, at higher and lower dosages, in 30 minutes of treatment. The control group without any treatment exhibited an increase in the paw volume. This is the first report on the anti-inflammatory effect of marine-derived Trichodesmium erythraeum

In the title compound, C21H16O, the dihedral angle between the anthracene ring system and the benzene ring is 74.3 (5)°. The anthracene ring system is essentially planar (r.m.s. deviation = 0.0257 Å) and the methoxy group lies in the plane of the benzene ring [C1—O1—C2—C7 torsion angle = 0.5 (2)°]. The crystal structure features π–π [centroid–centroid distance = 3.9487 (12) Å] and C–H...π interactions, forming a sheet running along the a-axis direction

Nanotechnology is a developing field with numerous approaches for its synthesis, one of which is, the green synthesis of nanoparticles is gaining popularity due to its advantageous properties and unique applications in a wide range of fields. This environmentally friendly process of using plants has proven to be effective and quick in the synthesis of silver nanoparticles. In this study, current advances in the field of environmentally friendly synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) utilizing a variety of plant extracts are summarized and discussed, along with the potential antibacterial uses of these materials. We discuss the impact of optimizing various parameters such as pH, temperature, time, and concentration on the synthesis process. Also covered is the mechanism of actively synthesized silver nanoparticles on infectious pathogens, with a focus on the recently used different plants for the synthesis of highly efficient antimicrobial green AgNPs
