Peatland microbial communities as indicators of the extreme atmospheric dust deposition
We investigated a peat profile from the Izery
Mountains, located within the so-called Black Triangle,
the border area of Poland, Czech Republic, and Germany.
This peatland suffered from an extreme atmospheric
pollution during the last 50 years, which created an
exceptional natural experiment to examine the impact
of pollution on peatland microbes. Testate amoebae
(TA), Centropyxis aerophila and Phryganella
acropodia, were distinguished as a proxy of atmospheric
pollution caused by extensive brown coal combustion.
We recorded a decline of mixotrophic TA and
development of agglutinated taxa as a response for the
extreme concentration of Al (30 g kg−1) and Cu
(96 mg kg−1) as well as the extreme amount of fly ash
particles determined by scanning electron microscopy
(SEM) analysis, which were used by TA for shell construction.
Titanium (5.9 %), aluminum (4.7 %), and
chromium (4.2 %) significantly explained the highest
percentage of the variance in TA data. Elements such as
Al, Ti, Cr, Ni, and Cu were highly correlated (r>0.7,
p<0.01) with pseudostome position/body size ratio
and pseudostome position. Changes in the community
structure, functional diversity, and mechanisms of
shell construction were recognized as the indicators
of dust pollution. We strengthen the importance of the
TA as the bioindicators of the recent atmospheric
pollution

Neuroendocrine neoplasms of the small intestine and the appendix - management guidelines (recommended by the Polish Network of Neuroendocrine Tumours).
This study presents the revised Polish guidelines regarding the management of patients suffering from neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs) of the small intestine and appendix. The small intestine, especially the ileum, is the most common location for these neoplasms. Most are well differentiated and slow growing. Their symptoms may be atypical, which can result in delayed or accidental diagnosis. Appendicitis is usually the first manifestation of NEN in this location. Typical symptoms of carcinoid syndrome occur in approximately 20-30% of patients suffering from small intestinal NENs with distant metastases. The main cause of death in patients with carcinoid syndrome is carcinoid heart disease. The most useful laboratory test is the determination of chromogranin A, while concentration of 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid is helpful in the diagnostics of carcinoid syndrome. For visualisation, ultrasound, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, colonoscopy, video capsule endoscopy, double-balloon enteroscopy, and somatostatin receptor scintigraphy may be used. A detailed his-tological report is crucial for the proper diagnostics and therapy of NENs of the small intestine and appendix. The treatment of choice is surgical management, either radical or palliative. The pharmacological treatment of the hormonally active and non-active small intestinal NENs as well as NENs of the appendix is based on long-acting somatostatin analogues. In patients with generalised NENs of the small intestine in progress during the SSA treatment, with good expression of somatostatin receptors, the first-line treatment should be radio-isotope therapy, while targeted therapies, such as everolimus, should be considered afterwards. When the above therapies are exhausted, in certain cases chemotherapy may be considered
Bezpieczeństwo posadowienia obiektu według norm europejskich : aktualne problemy budowy i projektowania głębokich wykopów. cz. 2
Deep excavations in the cities
The paper discusses the issues of the construction of the deep excavation in urban areas, highly urbanized. The most commonly used types of structures of deep excavations walls are presented as well as methods of construction. The walls structures are divided according to the criterion of impact on surrounding buildings as stiff or flexible. The methodsfor the construction of deep excavations in terms of the safety of the works and impact on adjacent buildings, the ground surface and the environment are discussed. The examples of interaction between the structures built in deep excavations and existing underground and surface infrastructure are given
Modern solutions arising from the “going underground” of buildings in cities
W artykule podano technologie najczęściej wykorzystywane obecnie w budowie głębokich podziemi. Omówiono szczegółowo dwa przykłady. Pierwszy dotyczy budynku biurowego o trzech kondygnacjach podziemnych usytuowanego w sąsiedztwie stacji metra i przedwojennych kamienic. Drugi to realizacja wykopu w warunkach geotechnicznych wysokiego poziomu wody gruntowej przy braku możliwości odwodnienia terenu budowy. W pierwszym przypadku zastosowano ściany szczelinowe, wzmocnienie fundamentów iniekcją strumieniową oraz metodę stropową budowy podziemi. Na etapie projektu budowlanego przeanalizowano oddziaływanie wykopu na sąsiednie obiekty i wyznaczono osiadania ław fundamentowych. W drugim opisano metodę betonowania podwodnego. This article presents the technologies most commonly used today in the construction of deep undergrounds. Two examples have
been discussed in detail. The first concerns an office building with three underground floors located in the vicinity of the metro station and pre-war tenement houses. The second example discusses the execution of the deep excavation in geotechnical conditions of high ground water level in the absence of the possibility to perform the dewatering of the construction site. In the first case, diaphragm walls and jet-grouting below the existing foundations were used. The influence of the excavation on neighboring buildings was analyzed and expected settlements of foundations were determined. In the second example the method of underwater concreting is
described

Budowa obiektu a obudowa wykopu - niełatwe zależności : aktualne problemy budowy i projektowania głębokich wykopów. cz. 1
The main problem of tunnelling with use of TBM in highly dense urban areas is to assign the range of subsiding trough and the impact of tunnelling works on existing buildings and underground or road infrastructure. The paper presents the results of settlements calculations over twin tube metro tunnel using analytical, empirical methods. The tunnel external diameter is 6,5 m; the overburden vary from 5 m to 8 m; the distance between tunnel axis is 14 m. Because of quaternary soils and high water table level the TBM type EBP was chosen as the method of tunnel construction. At the length of 502 m of tunnel the monitoring system was carried out in 22 cross sections. The results of settlements monitoring were compared with the values of analytical calculations.
