The Significance of China’s Education and Teaching Research System: A Key Driver of Chinese Basic Education

    Get PDF
China has the largest-scale education system in the world. Its five-level education and teaching research system has had far-reaching effects in promoting its basic education, enhancing the quality of education, and upgrading the nation’s talent pool. The system has been in constant improvement, playing an irreplaceable role in school and teacher development and the national curriculum reform. This article focuses on discussing the significance of this unique research system, with a view to providing valuable insights for sustaining development of education worldwide

The Value of Humanization in Customer Service

    Get PDF
As algorithm-based agents become increasingly capable of handling customer service queries, customers are often uncertain whether they are served by humans or algorithms, and managers are left to question the value of human agents once the technology matures. The current paper studies this question by quantifying the impact of customers\u27 enhanced perception of being served by human agents on customer service interactions. Our identification strategy hinges on the abrupt implementation by Southwest Airlines of a signature policy, which requires the inclusion of an agent\u27s first name in responses on Twitter, thereby making the agent more humanized in the eyes of customers. Multiple empirical analyses consistently show that customers are more willing to engage, and upon engagement, more likely to reach a resolution, with more humanized agents. Furthermore, we find that customers do not behave more aggressively to more humanized agents, hence humanization incurs no additional cost to agents

She? The Role of Perceived Agent Gender in Social Media Customer Service

This work investigated the role of perceived agent gender in customer behavior using a unique dataset from Southwest Airlines’ Twitter account. We inferred agent gender based on the first names provided by agents when responding to customers. We measured customer behavior using three outcomes: whether a customer decided to continue the service conversation upon receiving an agent’s initial response as well as the valence and arousal levels in their second tweet if the customer chose to continue the interaction. Our identification strategy relied on the Backdoor Criterion and hinged on the assumption that customer service requests are assigned to the next available agent, independent of agent gender. The findings revealed that customers were more likely to continue interactions with female agents than male agents and they were more negative in valence but less intense in arousal with the former group than with the latter

Controlled polarization rotation of an optical field in multi-Zeeman-sublevel atoms

    Get PDF
We investigate, both theoretically and experimentally, the phenomenon of polarization rotation of a weak, linearly-polarized optical (probe) field in an atomic system with multiple three-level electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) sub-systems. The polarization rotation angle can be controlled by a circularly-polarized coupling beam, which breaks the symmetry in number of EIT subsystems seen by the left- and right-circularly-polarized components of the weak probe beam. A large polarization rotation angle (up to 45 degrees) has been achieved with a coupling beam power of only 15 mW. Detailed theoretical analyses including different transition probabilities in different transitions and Doppler-broadening are presented and the results are in good agreements with the experimentally measured results.Comment: 28pages, 12figure

Research on Soil Carbon Storage of Alpine Grassland under Different Uses in Qinghai-Tibet Plateau

    Get PDF
In recent years, with the temperature rising on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, studies have shown that (Shaoqing Wang et al. 1999; Yuchun Qi et al. 2003) the plateau permafrost has great potential for emissions of greenhouse gases such as carbon, nitrogen, because of the remarkable permafrost thermal sensitivity. The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is a special geographical and ecological unit, which has an important role in global climate change. The study of soil carbon storage of grassland ecosystems in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and its distribution characteristics allow the evaluation of different land management. The carbon cycle response and feedback effects of the whole terrestrial ecosystems have important scientific value to the global carbon cycle and global climate change

Changes of Acylating Stimulating Protein (ASP) and Blood Lipid in Patients with Acute Myocardial Infarction

Objective: To study the changes of acylating stimulating protein (ASP) and blood lipid in patients with acute myocardial infarction. Method: There were three groups,25 cases of acute myocardial infarction patients (acute myocardial infarction group), 32 cases of coronary heart disease patients without myocardial infarction (CHD group) and 30 cases of healthy people (control group). They respectively detected the ASP, low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and analyzed the correlation between them. Results: (1) ASP, TG, TC and LDL-C of acute myocardial infarction group and coronary heart disease group were significantly higher than those of control group, while HDL-C was lower than control group, the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). (2) TG in coronary heart disease group was higher than that in acute myocardial infarction group, while ASP, TC, LDL-C and HDL-C had no significant difference. Conclusion: ASP and blood lipid are risk factors of CHD, ASP can be used as risk index of CHD. There was no significant difference in plasma ASP between patients with acute myocardial infarction and patients with coronary heart disease without myocardial infarction. ASP cannot be used as a surrogate marker of acute myocardial infarction
