On the feasibility of a user-operated mobile content distribution network

The vast majority of mobile data transfers today follow the traditional client-server model. Although in the fixed network P2P approaches have been exploited and shown to be very efficient, in the mobile domain there has been limited attempt to leverage on P2P (D2D) for large-scale content distribution (i.e., not DTN-like, point-to-point message transfers). In this paper, we explore the potential of a user-operated, smartphone-centric content distribution model for smartphone applications. In particular, we assume source nodes that are updated directly from the content provider (e.g., BBC, CNN), whenever updates are available; destination nodes are then directly updated by source nodes in a D2D manner. We leverage on sophisticated information-aware and application-centric connectivity techniques to distribute content between mobile devices in densely-populated urban environments. Our target is to investigate the feasibility of an opportunistic content distribution network in an attempt to achieve widespread distribution of heavy content (e.g., video files) to the majority of the destination nodes. We propose ubiCDN as a ubiquitous, user-operated and distributed CDN for mobile applications

    Information-aware access network selection

Mobile devices are increasingly presented with multiple connectivity options, including WiFi hotspots, micro-/macro-cells or even other devices in device-to-device (D2D) communications. By and large, connectivity management for mobile devices has primarily focused on contention, congestion and wireless medium conditions. In this paper, we assess the role of information-centrism in mobile device connectivity management. Motivated by the increasing availability of content and services in in-network caches and micro-data centres, we design an access network selection scheme that takes into account information availability within each connectivity option. Our simulations show that information-awareness results in a significant increase of cache hit ratios by up to 115% in certain scenarios

A phononic crystal coupled to a transmission line via an artificial atom

We study a phononic crystal interacting with an artificial atom { a superconducting quantum system { in the quantum regime. The phononic crystal is made of a long lattice of narrow metallic stripes on a quatz surface. The artificial atom in turn interacts with a transmission line therefore two degrees of freedom of different nature, acoustic and electromagnetic, are coupled with a single quantum object. A scattering spectrum of propagating electromagnetic waves on the artificial atom visualizes acoustic modes of the phononic crystal. We simulate the system and found quasinormal modes of our phononic crystal and their properties. The calculations are consistent with the experimentally found modes, which are fitted to the dispersion branches of the phononic crystal near the first Brillouin zone edge. Our geometry allows to realize effects of quantum acoustics on a simple and compact phononic crystal

The article reveals procedure of interaction between the subjects of pedagogical technology, efficiency of pedagogical technology applying and ways to arrange anticonflict activity. The authors studied reasons and types of conflicts and their influence on international students ’ life by means of applyingpredictive methods, observation methods, methods of theoretical analysis and statistic data processing. The paper considers principles of pedagogical management in details. The authors suppose the nature of pedagogical conflict management to lie in correction of contradictions and formation of structurak skills aimed at controlling and managing conflicts.

The article reveals scientific approaches to substantiating and developing technology to form social information competence of future Iraqi journalists based on using a dynamic pedagogical site. After pre-interviewing students of the Journalism Faculty at Al-Imam Al-Kadhim University College for Islamic Sciences in Baghdad, the authors came to the conclusion there are issues on defining the essence of social information competences. It is established that the majority of respondents do not feel satisfied with the conditions for forming these competences in the education institutions. At the same time, there were also positive trends as most future journalists recognized the importance of these professional competences for their professional development and had a desire to attend additional courses, including distance learning ones. Subsequently, the authors focused on social information competence of future journalists, which is a key issue according to European requirements. The authors describe the essence of this competence as an integrative quality of personality, which characterizes an ability to select, transform information and allows to organize effective professional communication on the basis of the use of modern communicative technologies in the process of individual or team work. Based on the analysis of literary sources, its components are determined: motivational, cognitive, operational and personal. The researchers came to the conclusion that it is necessary to develop a technology for forming social information competence of future journalists based on the use of modern information technologies. The necessity of technology implementation through the preparatory, motivational, operational and diagnostic correction stages was substantiated and its model was developed. The authors found that the main means of technology implementation should be a dynamic pedagogical site, which, unlike static, allows to expand technical possibilities by using such applications as photo galleries, RSS modules, forums, etc. Technically, it can be created using Site builder. Further research will be aimed at improving the structure of the dynamic pedagogical site of the developed technology

The Productivity and Forage Value of the Natural Floodplain Meadow Phytocenoses Under the Influence of Grazing and Haymaking (Forest-Steppe Zone of Ukraine)

The productivity and forage value of natural floodplain meadows of the Rybytsya River in the Krasnopillia district of Sumy region (Forest-Steppe zone) on grazing and haymaking degradation gradients were analyzed. A significant decrease in productivity and forage value in the both grazing and haymaking gradients (the effect of haymaking is milder than grazing) have been determined. The decrease in forage value is reflected in the ratio change between three farming groups of plants – cereals, legumes and forbs. It is noticed a decrease in the proportion of cereals and legumes while increasing the proportion of forbs
