    Using Computer Behavior Profiles to Differentiate between Users in a Digital Investigation

    Most digital crimes involve finding evidence on the computer and then linking it to a suspect using login information, such as a username and a password. However, login information is often shared or compromised. In such a situation, there needs to be a way to identify the user without relying exclusively on login credentials. This paper introduces the concept that users may show behavioral traits which might provide more information about the user on the computer. This hypothesis was tested by conducting an experiment in which subjects were required to perform common tasks on a computer, over multiple sessions. The choices they made to complete each task was recorded. These were converted to a \u27behavior profile,\u27 corresponding to each login session. Cluster Analysis of all the profiles assigned identifiers to each profile such that 98% of profiles were attributed correctly. Also, similarity scores were generated for each session-pair to test whether the similarity analysis attributed profiles to the same user or to two different users. Using similarity scores, the user sessions were correctly attributed 93.2% of the time. Sessions were incorrectly attributed to the same user 3.1% of the time and incorrectly attributed to different users 3.7% of the time. At a confidence level of 95%, the average correct attributions for the population was calculated to be between 92.98% and 93.42%. This shows that users show uniqueness and consistency in the choices they make as they complete everyday tasks on a system, and this can be useful to differentiate between them.     Solution of Large Sparse System of Linear Equations over GF(2) on a Multi Node Multi GPU Platform

    We provide an efficient multi-node, multi-GPU implementation of the Block Wiedemann Algorithm (BWA)to find the solution of a large sparse system of linear equations over GF(2). One of the important applications ofsolving such systems arises in most integer factorization algorithms like Number Field Sieve. In this paper, wedescribe how hybrid parallelization can be adapted to speed up the most time-consuming sequence generation stage of BWA. This stage involves generating a sequence of matrix-matrix products and matrix transpose-matrix products where the matrices are very large, highly sparse, and have entries over GF(2). We describe a GPU-accelerated parallel method for the computation of these matrix-matrix products using techniques like row-wise parallel distribution of the first matrix over multi-node multi-GPU platform using MPI and CUDA and word-wise XORing of rows of the second matrix. We also describe the hybrid parallelization of matrix transpose-matrix product computation, where we divide both the matrices row-wise into equal-sized blocks using MPI. Then after a GPU-accelerated matrix transpose-matrix product generation, we combine all those blocks using MPI_BXOR operation in MPI_Reduce to obtain the result. The performance of hybrid parallelization of the sequence generation step on a hybrid cluster using multiple GPUs has been compared with parallelization on only multiple MPI processors. We have used this hybrid parallel sequence generation tool for the benchmarking of an HPC cluster. Detailed timings of the complete solution of number field sieve matrices of RSA-130, RSA-140, and RSA-170 are also compared in this paper using up to 4 NVidia V100 GPUs of a DGX station. We got a speedup of 2.8 after parallelization on 4 V100 GPUs compared to that over 1 GPU

    Exploring Forensic Implications of the Fusion Drive

    This paper explores the forensic implications of Apple’s Fusion Drive. The Fusion Drive is an example of auto-tiered storage. It uses a combination of a flash drive and a magnetic drive. Data is moved between the drives automatically to maximize system performance. This is different from traditional caches because data is moved and not simply copied. The research included understanding the drive structure, populating the drive, and then accessing data in a controlled setting to observe data migration strategies. It was observed that all the data is first written to the flash drive with 4 GB of free space always maintained. If data on the magnetic drive is frequently accessed, it is promoted to the flash drive while demoting other information. Data is moved at a block-level and not a file-level. The Fusion Drive didn’t alter the timestamps of files with data migration

    First trimester uterine rupture-a rare but catastrophic event: a case report

    Uterine rupture is a rare but life threatening obstetrical emergency. It often occurs at term during trail of labour but rarely may occur during early pregnancy in first trimester. Here, we report a case of 28 years, G2P1+0L0 at 3 months of pregnancy with fundal rupture in shock with history of previous caesarean section. Ultrasound report revealed massive hemoperitoneum (2 litres) with dead fetus lying outside the uterine cavity. Emergency laparotomy was performed and uterine repair was done. The differential diagnosis for hemoperitoneum is early pregnancy includes bleeding corpus luteum, heterotropic pregnancy or ectopic pregnancy and molar pregnancy with secondary invasion. The possibility of uterine rupture should also be kept in mind. Prompt diagnosis and early management is important to reduce the morbidity and mortality

    Earthworm coelomocytes as nanoscavenger of ZnO NPs

    Earthworms can ‘biotransform’ or ‘biodegrade’ chemical contaminants, rendering them harmless in their bodies, and can bioaccumulate them in their tissues. They ‘absorb’ the dissolved chemicals through their moist ‘body wall’ due to the interstitial water and also ingest by ‘mouth’ while soil passes through the gut. Since the advent of the nanotechnology era, the environmental sink has been continuously receiving engineered nanomaterials as well as their derivatives. Our current understanding of the potential impact of nanomaterials and their natural scavenger is limited. In the present investigation, we studied the cellular uptake of ZnO nanoparticles (NPs) by coelomocytes especially by chloragocytes of Eisenia fetida and their role as nanoscavenger. Results from exposure to 100- and 50-nm ZnO NPs indicate that coelomocytes of the earthworm E. fetida show no significant DNA damage at a dose lower than 3 mg/l and have the potential ability to uptake ZnO NPs from the soil ecosystem and transform them into microparticles

    Pregnancy outcomes in the in vitro fertilization conceived polycystic ovary syndrome patients: a prospective study

    Background: In vitro fertilization (IVF) is the need of modern era which was first developed to overcome the infertility resulting from irreparable tubal disease but now is applied more broadly for treatment of all causes of infertility including polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and is associated with obstetric complications as well. This study aimed to whether pregnancy-related outcomes and complications are differed between patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and those with other causes of infertility who had undergone IVF. Objective were to compare maternal and fetal outcome in IVF conceived women with PCOS v/s without PCOS. Prospective comparative study at a tertiary care hospital.Methods: After getting approval from institutional ethical and scientific research committee, 108 IVF conceived women are studied, where IVF is done using controlled ovarian stimulation with GnRH antagonist protocol followed by freeze all strategy and preparation of endometrial lining. Frozen embryo transfer done in subsequent cycle over a period of one year. Study group includes women with PCOS and control group includes women without PCOS. The entire data is statistically analysed using statistical package for social sciences (SPSS ver 22.0, IBM Corporation, USA) for MS Windows.Results: Out of 108 IVF conceived pregnant women studied, 50% were PCOS (study group) and 50% non PCOS (control group). We have compared maternal and neonatal outcome in both the groups which shows patient in PCOS group has higher incidence of GDM, severe pre-eclampsia, preterm labour, LBW babies, SGA babies and babies admitted to NICU.Conclusions: Women with PCOS should be given notice of additional adverse pregnancy outcomes as well receiving early diagnosis and treatment for these complications during pregnancy and postpartum period

    Acceptance, safety and complications of postpartum intra uterine contraceptive device: a prospective study in tertiary care hospital

    Background: Intrauterine contraceptive device is a long acting, effective and reversible method of contraception. It can be inserted post placental during vaginal or LSCS delivery and within 48 hours of delivery.  This study evaluates the acceptance, safety, side effects and complications associated with immediate post-partum intrauterine contraceptive device (PPIUCD) insertion.Methods: The study was conducted at Hindu Rao Hospital and NDMC Medical College, Delhi for a period of 18 months. Patients admitted and delivered at Hindu Rao Hospital were counseled for PPIUCD, CuT 380 A / CuT 375 insertions and it was inserted within 10 minutes of delivery of placenta during vaginal delivery or LSCS or within 48 hours of delivery. Patients were followed at 6 weeks and then between 6 to 12 months of delivery for continuation, side effects or any complications.Results: After counseling 1253 (9.8%) patients agreed for PPIUCD insertion out of which 650 patients came for follow up. 46% women came for routine follow up while 54.06% came with one or the other complications. Missed thread was most common complications, followed by bleeding P/V and pain abdomen. Expulsion in 5.5% and CuT failure was seen in 0.92% women only. Removal of IUCD was done in 94 patients for one or other reasons. There was retention of PPIUCD in 84.5% while removal was done in 14.5% during period of 6 months to one year follow up. Missed thread was main cause of anxiety among acceptors.Conclusions: Immediate PPIUCD is safe and effective method of contraception with a high retention rate. Though acceptance in initial months was less but it gradually increased over time with increasing awareness, counseling of patients and training of health personnel
