Quantum Fluctuations of Black Hole Geometry

By using the minisuperspace model for the interior metric ofstatic black holes, we solve the Wheeler-DeWitt equation to study quantum mechanics of the horizon geometry. Our basic idea is to introduce the gravitational mass and the expansions of null rays as quantum operators. Then, the exact wave function is found as a mass eigenstate, and the radius of the apparent horizon is quantum-mechanically defined. In the evolution of the metric variables, the wave function changes from a WKB solution giving the classical trajectories to a tunneling solution. By virtue of the quantum fluctuations of the metric evolution beyond the WKB approximation, we can observe a static black hole state with the apparent horizon separating from the event horizon.Comment: 18 pages, DPNU-93-3

Author investigated the cell infiltrative activity, cell growth and cell proliferative activity of flat type colorectal cancer. Tissue specimens were obtained by surgery. These specimens were examined in expression of CD44 for the evaluation of cell infiltrative activity and Ki67 for growing cell, and then double-staining for AgNORs and Ki67 was performed to evaluate proliferative activity in growing cells. Analysis was performed by determining the labeling index (LI) of CD44 and Ki67, and the number of AgNORs in total 19 cases of type Is, type IIa, type IIa+IIc and type IIc. CD44 LI was 43% for type Is, 47% for type IIa, 55% for type IIa+IIc plus IIc, and a tendency of higher expression was presented in flat-elevated-with-depressed and flat-withdepressed tumors of type IIa+IIc plus IIc. Ki67 LI showed almost parallel data in three types. By double-staining method, the results of AgNORs counts in Ki67 negative cells were similar to those of Ki67 LI indicating that the proliferative activity was not different between tumors. In contrast, AgNORs counts in Ki67 positive cells were 8.48 in type Is, 7.67 in type IIa, and 10.75 in type IIa+IIc plus IIc, and the highest proliferative activity was presented in flatelevated- with-depressed and flat-with-depressed tumors of type IIa +IIc plus IIc. (p<0.05) Author\u27s results suggest that the flat-elevated-with-depressed and flat-with-depressed tumor have a different characteristics compared with two types and is higher malignant and potentially invasive colorectal cancers than the other types

GW calculation of plasmon excitations in the quasi-one-dimensional organic compound (TMTSF)2PF6

    Get PDF
We present an ab initio GW calculation to study dynamical effects on an organic compound (TMTSF)2 PF6. Calculated polarized reflectivities reproduce experimental plasma edges at around 0.2 eV for E∥b′ and 1.0 eV for E∥a. The low-energy plasmons come out from the low-energy narrow bands energetically isolated from other higher-energy bands, and affect the low-energy electronic structure via the GW-type self-energy. Because of the quasi-one-dimensional band structure, a distinct plasmaron state is observed along the Y-Γ line and a large plasmon-induced electron scattering is found in the low-energy occupied states along the X-M line

Complete in vitro DNA replication of SV40 chromatin in digitonin-treated permeable cells.

A permeable cell system has been developed by treatment with digitonin for studying in vitro DNA replication of chromatin. DNA replication of simian virus 40 nucleoprotein complexes (SV40 chromatin) in digitonin-treated permeable cells was analyzed by electrophoresis in agarose-gel. Autoradiography of the agarose-gel revealed that [32P]dCTP was incorporated in SV40 DNA I, II and replicating intermediates. The time course of the incorporation indicated the complete replication of SV40 DNA and chromatin with a full number of nucleosomes. The digitonin-treated permeable cell system will serve as a useful system for studying in vitro DNA replication of chromatin.</p

Herein is reported a case of 47 XXV-Klinefelter's syndrome associated with ureteral polyps, renal pelvic stone and primary hyperparathyroidism. To the best of our knowledge, this is the second patient reported to have Klinefelter's syndrome coexisting with primary hyperparathyroidism. Frequent endocrinological disorders in the patients with Klinefelter's syndrome and diagnostic problems for hyperparathyroidism and ureteral polyps are discussed

The clinical significance of parathyroid hormone-related protein in humoral hypercalcemia of malignancy was investigated by determining the serum parathyroid hormone-related protein concentrations in 167 normal subjects, 56 patients with hematologic malignancy and 144 patients with solid tumor. Serum parathyroid hormone-related protein was measured with a radioimmunoassay kit that recognizes the C-terminal portion of the molecule. The serum parathyroid hormone-related protein concentrations were 20.2–50.8 pmol/l (mean±2 SD) in normal subjects, and were elevated in 80% of the patients with malignancies with hypercalcemia, including squamous cell carcinoma and adult T cell leukemia. Moreover, two cases of B cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma with hypercalcemia had high serum parathyroid hormone-related protein concentrations, which varied in parallel with the tumor size during the clinical course. Of 136 patients with solid tumors with normocalcemia, the serum parathyroid hormone-related protein concentration was slightly elevated in only 5.1%, all of whom were at an advanced stage. These data indicate that determination of the serum parathyroid hormone-related protein concentration is useful for differential diagnosis of humoral hypercalcemia of malignancy and prediction of its development
