The pupose of this study is to examine effective methods to develop children's musical expression ability in "school play day" of "special activities". The following hypotheses were proposed and put into actual teaching. 1) With individual supports during the process of exercises, children will practice more eagerly to refine their expression. 2) By looking back former activities by themselves, children's musical expression ability will be more developed. To examine these hypotheses, two children were chosen, their learning processes were recorded and analyzed. The following results were obtained: 1) by adding teacher's comments on portfolio and frequent talking by a teacher to each child on his/her performance, children were push to exercise more actively. 2) Children's self evaluation and records worked effectively to deepen their expression. Thus these hypotheses were valid to develop children's musical expression ability

The purpose of this study is to examine the characteristics of songs in "Hyojun Shihan Gako Ongaku Kyokasho (Music Standard Textbook for normal schools)"(1938) authorized by the Ministry of Education normal schools. The following results were obtained by comparing with "Shihan Ongaku"(1943) designated by the goverment: 1) "Hyojun Shihan Gako Ongaku Kyokasho" was a textbook which contains songs materials, instrumental music, listening, music theory, and sight singing. 2) About 80 percent of the song materials were occupied by Western folk songs and songs composed by the European composers. However, lyrics of these songs were adapted from the originals or newly written in Japanese. 3) Regarding military-oriented materials, Western marches with 4/4, doted rhythm, beginning in up-beat, and in major key were adopted

Down regulation by a low-zinc diet in gene expression of rat prostatic thymidylate synthase and thymidine kinase

Abstract

Background

Zinc has a wide spectrum of biological activities and its deficiency is related to various abnormalities of cell metabolism.

Methods

Wistar male rats, at age of 4 weeks, were fed a low-zinc diet for six weeks. The levels of bromodeoxyuridine incorporated into the prostatic DNA and the mRNA expression levels of prostate thymidylate synthase and thymidine kinase were examined.

Result

The low-zinc diet caused a marked reduction in the body growth and organ weights, resulted in a low hematopoiesis, hypo-albuminemia and hypocholesterolemia. Although there were few differences in plasma biochemical markers, plasma levels of luteinizing hormone and testosterone were reduced by the low-zinc diet. Bromodeoxyuridine-immunoreactive (S-phase) cells and mRNA expression levels of thymidylate synthase and thymidine kinase in the prostate cells were markedly affected by the low-zinc diet.

Conclusion

A low-zinc diet appears to reduce the body growth and organ weights including prostate, causing low plasma levels of luteinizing hormone and testosterone and reduction in prostate DNA replication in growing-rats.</p

Fragment of an endogenous inhibitor produced in Escherichia coli for calcium-activated neutral protease (CANP) retains an inhibitory activity

AbstractA C-terminal fragment of an endogenous rabbit liver inhibitor for calcium-activated neutral protease (CANP) was produced in Escherichia coli and its inhibitory activity was examined after purification. The truncated inhibitor (373 amino acid residues), which contains two internal repeat structures, inhibits 2 mol CANP whereas the native liver inhibitor (639 residues), containing four internal repeat structures, inhibits 4 mol CANP. This supports the hypothesis that the repeating unit is the functional unit of inhibition. The results also indicate that post-translational modification of the inhibitor is not essential for inhibition

This is a study conducted by our research group about the psychological background of local people in Manado,Indonesia. Interviews were made to a group of locals concerning their approach to death and consequent state of mind focused on their religious beliefs on Obon festival, conversation with spirits, reincarnation and the influence of holy men. We recognized the fantasy they believed that spirit comes back from afterworld in the ceremony. In addition,we understood the event that spirit returns from afterworld once a year and“offering” is common sense. However, these custom had difference depended on regions and their social rank. As a result, these local people were difficult to share the common sense about the event. Reporting to spirit and conversation to spirit were common events in whole regions in Indonesia, but the quality might be different. Especially, idea about reincarnation was modified among young and old generations.調査・事例等報

Molecular cloning and sequencing of cDNA for rat cathepsin H Homology in pro-peptide regions of cysteine proteinases

AbstractA cDNA for rat cathepsin H was isolated and sequenced. The deduced protein comprising 333 amino acid residues is composed of a typical signal sequence (21 residues), a pro-peptide region (92 residues) and a mature enzyme region (220 residues). The amino acid sequence in the pro-peptide region, in particular, residues Phe-(−41) to Ser-(−29) of cathepsin H, is highly homologous to the pro-peptide regions of other cysteine proteinases. This homologous region may play a role in the processing of cysteine proteinases
